I spent Thanksgiving week in Pa with family and the "see something say something" ads were all over the tv...I felt like I was behind the Iron curtain somewhere....it was very unsettling, something bad is happening here.

I do know that the 1st Responder/FEMA/DHS volunteer trainings for the month of December have been cancelled by the local and nationwide Commanders. No explainations given.

If you'll recall, DHS was founded before Obama came into office. What does he have to do with this?

It's a continuation of policies that haven't been revoked. I think Congress can always be blamed though.

What kind of programming were you and your family watching? I only have the tv on for cartoons for the kids (Nick Jr, Peep on WETA kids, and Pokemon and Scooby Doo) and some HGTV shows. So I never saw this garbage on tv before. I had no idea it was that bad. Is it fed to you via the local affiliates?

I see the see something say something message pop up along with a phone number when we drive along certain roads that have traffic alert display boards with light up messaging capability. Thankfully there aren't many of those around and none in my usual commute. I tune it out when i do see it, and in fact it makes me so mad I am more likely to not look and not say anything! I don't even know what the hell I'm supposed to be looking out for anyway. Short of rape, assault and robbery, which I would report to 911, I'm not going to mess in anybody's business. I'm not Mrs. Kravits on Bewitched.

I agree with the person who pointed out Michigan has that huge Muslim population in Dearborn that may be why this is being piloted in Michigan. Doesn't it remind everyone of how it all started in Nazi Germany, by whipping up paranoia about the Jews? Protect the fatherland from the nefarious activities of the Jews who are loyal only to themselves. Report on your Jewish neighbors. I remember as students, we asked our history teacher why people went along with that and couldnt they see how they were being manipulated into gradually accepting restrictions and scrutiny being placed on people that they normally wouldn't accept on anybody. Then the targeted groups spread to encompass others besides the Jews.

Well here we go again. It really is true, those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. The younger generations aren't going to know any different from this paranoid BS. We have to tell them it wasn't always like this, and the last time it was, it turned into a Holocaust.

Well, the airhead that I am sometimes, I didn't take notice of what channels we were watching. I saw them about 4 times during the week, yelled to my Mom so she could see them too. Her reaction was the same as mine..."WTF"?? We don't usually watch the local channels though, so I don't know why I saw PSA s there and not at home in NY? Like they say...just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't after you. Now we have that added fear of people turning us in to the authorities, like the Hitler Youth.....what country is this?

I've been asking myself the same thing: what country is this? Because it used to be the United States. Now it's like something else entirely.

Divide first, and then conquer.

It would be interesting to know if they are playing these ads in your NY viewing area and my metro DC viewing area (and we just happen to miss them due to our viewing habits or lack thereof). It may be that they are saving the high education, high income areas, and more diverse populations for last due to the perception that they would encounter more resistance in these areas. Where I live we have a very nice blend of immigrants from all over the world and such a message probably would arouse more controversy from immigrants who escaped such Orwellian scrutiny from their governments.

It would be easier to prey on the fears of more homogenous, static populations. It would be possibly easier to whip more anti Muslim terrorist fear into more established populations of white and black and even hispanic Americans who have been here longer and feel they have more to lose to this "terrorist under every rock and behind every tree" threat.

So far as I've seen none of these messages specifically mention anti Muslim sentiment. But we have certainly been fed enough fear from other sources to subconsciously fill in the blanks by now. And already there have been enough announcements of home grown converts and enough work in expanding terrorist definitions to include just about any dissenting group to whip up enough generalized paranoia against everyone. Perhaps that is what is behind all the crazed gunmen making the headlines lately. I'm kind of delving into tinfoil hat mind control slave territory with that conjecture but sometimes it's hard not to try and connect certain dots sometimes. The govt has perhaps succeeded in making me paranoid but maybe not in the intended direction!
