The creature's adaptations are stunning, obviously an environmental strain has caused the animal to develop in a manner to ward off predators by appearing larger and more intimidating than is actually warranted.

We've seen similar cases in certain moths with eye-spots on their wings, as well as the mimicry associated with non-dangerous species adapting to appear as more dangerous varieties. Good find, chap. I would say more study and observation is definitely warranted.
