He doesn't have a shot against Obama. Obama will rally his supporters, they will turn out in big numbers to vote, and he will raise a ton of money for his campaign.

Newt won't energize the party, he won't pick up the independents or third party voters, he won't get a good turnout, he won't win any debates with Obama, and his lackluster support will ensure a win for Obama. The same can be said for all the Reps except Ron Paul. He is the only one that can raise Obama level money and energize voters to turn out in record numbers.

That's exaclty the sentiment I echoed on ATS Live a few weeks/months ago in our panel discussion.

Obama is just too damn charasmatic. ESPECIALLY during election cycles. Poor Newt looks like he's gonna have a heart attack any day now.

I thought Marc Rubino would be running, I'm surprised they didn't peg him for a nominatinon. Perhaps for vice on the ticket if Gingrich gets his nomination.

Well we didn't hear from him for like 3 mnths because he had shot himself in the foot in one of the debates. I'd expect him to be destroyed 1v1 with Obama unfortunetly.

And his whole immigration stance doesn't sit will with extreme or even moderate conservatives, and that's gonna be a big issue considering this is another "economy" election.

I heard a rumor that Europe will be going into a deep turmoil very soon. The EU is a major
trading partner with the USA. Our economy will also head south. Obama will have an
impossible task of getting re-elected if we dive into another recession in 2012.
They had a wonderful 30 year party in Europe. Now it's time for the austerity plans.
No more free candy for the socialists.

Hello Hillary Clinton! Hello Bill Clinton! Somebody speed dial Monica Lewinsky. Welcome
back to the White House?

Hillary Clintons January 2012 speech " Well, i guess now would be a good time to remove the wet blanket
that has been placed over Free Market Capitalism by Obama. Sorry about that."

I loved Rubio up until yesterday! I supported him and his campaign. Raised money for him. Went to a couple of his events, but yesterday he sold out to the party. He voted for the defense spending bill. Rand Paul stuck by his convictions and voted Nay, but Rubio played party politics.

Rubio also has an eligibility problem. It doesn't seem to have hurt Obama, but Rubio's parents were not citizens when he was born. They became citizens later, and he was born in the States, but technically he is ineligible. He has stated publicly that he believes he is eligible, so perhaps he can make it happen, but not against Obama. It would be too much headache with too ineligible people on the tickets against each other, LOL!

Yep. I lean left, more of a moderate with democrat leanings. Pres. Obama vs. any of these guys and I will vote Obama...and that irks me to no end.

I would vote for a moderate GOP nominee if he came with good ideas, honesty and intellectual horsepower.

At the very least I want Pres. Obama to have to fight for his job and publicly defend his actions, policy and decisions of the past few years and as long as the GOP keeps putting clowns forward that self destruct, that won't happen. Very frustrating.

I want our deomcratic process to be healthy and vigorous and that requires real competition.

I am not seeing that in Newt. Hi chance at the Presidencey has come and gone years ago, but he hasn't realized it yet. He seems desperate to me, pandering beyond belief, abandoning all moderate positions he once held to appeal to the far right.

Kind of sad to see him finally offer up his integrety in trade for a shot at the big seat.

He supported the individual mandate in the Healthcare reform law in the 90's through as recently as May. I mean there are Youtubes, interviews etc. of him fiercly defending the mandate.

Now he apes the "it's unconstitutional" talking point.

He bashed Paul Ryans and the GOPs proposal to reform Medicare again as recently as May 2011.

Now he has apologized for doing so.

The Republican party is running out of ideas, worried about Cain, and then they throw Newt who not only cheated on one wife but all his wifes. Hey Republican party for christ sakes, if your not going to give Paul a chance then go to the local homeless shelter, you might have a better chance at a candidate that does not stink to high heaven with fallacies

Bottom line?

The GOP Nominees are focused on energizing the far right supporters when they should be focused on deflating the already challenged enthusiasm levels of the left to support Obama.

The left is energized by the GOPs moving to the far right, not Pres. Obama. A moderate GOP nominee will take some of the air out of the left and might just be enough.

But that is not what we are seeing at all.

Bad strategy...very bad GOP strategy IMO.

That's how you do it. Find the least qualified, least electable person who tows the party line. THAT is you candidate. It always happens like that.

Exactly. He has plenty of tricks up his sleeve for next summer and fall. Unemployment numbers will miraculously fall as a result of strategic extensions of benefits timed just perfectly. The Euro is being destroyed worse than the dollar. Crude prices can be manipulated. Tax credits can be rammed through and checks mailed out. There are plenty of ways for Obama to buy votes by manipulating the economy at just the right time.

Right now, as bad as things are here, our currency is still the most stable. China has artificially manipulated their currency, and it could come undone at any time. The Euro is imploding. Things will get worse over the winter, but there will be miraculous news of recovery in time for the elections.

There are not enough tricks for Obama.

There will be no growth in Europe just despair.

If we dive into a recession Obama can say anything he wants. He will lose.

Newt, Newt, Newt.
Not this again. You are NOT the saviour of the Republican party. And didn't ya' get the memo? When Bush43 tried to talk Christy into running, and Christy instead endorsed Romney, that was 'THE SIGNAL' that Romney is the crown prince and annointed one. Sorry Newt ... you might want to check with Romney .. he might have some job for you in his administration .... a consolation prize or something ...

I think Newt can beat Obama with all these people just giving up and not looking for jobs.

315,000 Americans just said forget it. What's the use?

If Newt is the nominee for the GOP I guess I will have to write in Ron Paul in the general election because I will not vote for that petulant gas bag or Obama either one.

Romney or Newt are not going to be president. I'll bet my shorts on it. They might get the nomination, but they aren't going to get support from all 3 places they need. They won't get the disenfranchised Dems. They won't get the Independents and 3rd party types, and they won't get the Far Right Conservatives.

Romney is too pretty and untrustworthy. He forgot his own first name for God's sake. He jumped on the bandwagon with Wolf Blitzer and he claimed "Mitt" was his "real first name" as well. But he LIED! He will do or say anything to get some laughs and support. He is a pretty and polished politician. He can't beat Obama.

Newt is a typical entrenched politician. He won't get any votes from those 3 groups either. Dems can't jump ship all the way to Newt. Independents can't trust him, the Far Right might buy into his recent platforms (copied from Ron Paul), but they are also the religious crowd that probably can't forgive his indiscretions. He can't beat Obama.

Bachmann had a chance, but she faded out very early. Huntsman had a chance, but he doesn't have the war chest of campaign funds. Santorum is a great guy, but he won't get the nod.

It is Ron Paul, or Obama at inaugeration time in January 2013. Those are the only choices unless some dark horse (Palin?) jumps in at the last second.
