Mayan tablet decoding rules out 2012 apocalypse

www.thestar.com

MEXICO CITY—The end is not near.

At least that’s according to a German expert who says his decoding of a Mayan tablet with a reference to a 2012 date denotes a transition to a new era and not a possible end of the world as others have read it.
.
.
He said the inscription describes the return of mysterious Mayan god Bolon Yokte at the end of a 13th period of 400 years, known as Baktuns, on the equivalent of Dec. 21, 2012. Mayans considered 13 a sacred number.

Well, something that a lot of people has suspected is being addressed again. I wonder how many people will actually believe this study or think that it is just another coverup. I'll be interesting to see how it develops.

This is probably going to play out like most other end of the days scenario we have recently seen; with people on both side of the fence. The coming year would be interesting to see how the media handles this.

I thought this was common knowledge. I remember hearing about the "new era" version of the tablets a few years ago. Can't believe this topic is still being debated...

Its already been disproven by another study that concluded that the actual date was several hundred years away, i can not find the study fml, but i deffinatly remember seeing it.

It wouldn't supprise me if we cause the "end of the world" prophecy ourselves, imagine all the people who will be out on the 21st of dec next year partying like its the end of the world, looting like its the end of the world, going mad because they think its the end of the world. After the summer riots here in England, it certainly wouldn't surprise me

The media will for the most part treat 2012ers with derision, and justifiably.

The mayans were tracking galactic, planetary, and species evolution. Our solar system is about to go through a period of change and transformation, that is all. Human consciousness will experience evolution and change as its surroundings do so as well. Ancient yet advanced civilizations like the mayas were in the business of studying important and relevant matters unlike modern societies who are fixated with the ego and the perpetuation of the individual. If the mayas say we are entering a new era i will take their word for it not agenda driven fear mongering western scientists.

Mayan tablet decoding rules out 2012 apocalypse

I for one never saw any evidence that they were predicting the end of the world, and I am a history nut with a bent towards ancient religions. IMHO folks have been superimposing the book of Revelation - probably the iffiest book of the Canonized Bible - on top of the Mayan Calender. My biggest concern is that TPTB would seize on this date and use it to further their agenda(s).

This is exactly what Terrance Mckenna proposed back in the 80's

I actually don't understand why a lot of posters here believe that the end of the world and everyone is going to die will happen on Dec. 21, 2012. If there is anything that will happen on Dec 21, 2012, it will be the shift in consciousness of humans to a more evolved form. In a way, 2012 will be the end of one era and the start of a new one. So there is really nothing to fear. It is useless to be afraid. Waste of energy over nothing.

I think the Mayans knew allot more than what we do now. .Though i cant take the doom and gloom scenario.

I think what they may of predicted, like you're saying - is a new era in our world & how we live/think. These guys predicted there own destruction, would it be too far fetched in thinking that they would be able to predict when the majority of our planets people become enlightened?

They predicted that the Spanish would come, and stop their way of life and destroy everything they have learnt- which they did. I personally dont find it too far fetched to think they predicted a date that when the majority of us start to think for our selves.

Bring on 2012, whether its doom and gloom or mass enlightenment, bring it.

2012 will be like 2011, on January 1st 2013 I will wake up and go to work like any other day, unless I get the day off... this is y2k all over again, same thing happened in the year 1000, there will always be groups claiming one year is more significant than another, it's all just superstition, why would anyone in their right mind allow an ancient superstition affect their lives.

I found an interesting pattern on this source.... please consider this ....

Preface: I am aware that the concept of an apocalyptic association with the Mayan calendar is a notion superimposed on the calendar by western believers in a generalized upcoming earth-shattering event (metaphorically or otherwise.) It was never an explicit construct within Mayan mythos. Western media has made good use of the ease with which such things can be sensationalized.

To the point:

The article used for the source of this OP is legitimate... but used all too frequently I am afraid, as the message is being very nearly proselytized by repetition .....

Still this is probably the date TPTB are focusing their attention on considering that things are just getting worse and who ever said this change wouldn't include a doomsday scenario (an organized one at least).

I highly doubt we will have some type of conscious shift, humans today will not be able to cope to being spiritually awakened, and they are too busy with XFactor. If you really want this shift, why wait? Learn meditation and begin making these changes for yourself rather than waiting, perhaps if anything does happen it is only to those who went after it. Most might not even notice anything because it might be an evolution in our souls which most today are disconnected to.

boils down to money... as always..

No doomsday = No money

profit to be made from predicting the end of the world people will buy all sorts of rubbish they dont need to 'survive' doomsday..

A good racket .. Doomsday comes and goes with no doom .. Make new prediction make more money...

It should really be common knowledge that the Mayan calendar was never depicting and end but a new age. I thought everyone already knew this. If not, you're probably just blind, deaf, or Helen Keller.

Seriously though. If the Mayan Calendar is right and the God's return, we are all in for the shock of our lives beyond imagination.

But, have no fear. That is an essential response to the return. They are very powerful and beyond comprehension, but don't be overwhelmed. Expect. Be aware and ready.

Our forms were created by the Gods. When they return, it will be to re-create.
