The World Wide Economic Melt Down is a problem for just about everyone. Can we help by creating a large company owned by "the people" instead of relying on our governments to solve everything? Let's find out.

Proposal:
To form an international company owned and operated by it's employee's who share in the responsibilities, profits, use of profits and direction of the company. To build a web based company that conceptualizes, designs, engineers, manufactures, markets and ships products worldwide. To create useful, environmentaly safe products and technologies from foot wear to space ware. To use the Internet as a means by which to allow collaboration of minds towards a financial gain and stable global economy.

We as individuals have many great skills. By combining our skills together we can change the world.

The intention here is the actual formation of the company. If this type of consortium sounds like something you would like to join, please help in it's formation by sharing your thoughts and idea's.

( I have skills in conceptualizing, designing, engineering, inventing, manufacturing, marketing and shipping products worldwide... and a couple more, but hey let's get the ball rolling... )

Great idea.
Cooperative institutions work great, the best examples being credit unions which are better then banks in every single way.

That is an awesome idea. If enough of us were together we would have more wealth than the oligarchs. At some point one or two companies will own and provide all products and services. We could form our own global corporation and put them out of business. Awesome idea. If there was enough of us together we could match the buying power of corporations like Wallmart even.

That could be one of the companies goals - is it possible to create an employee owned global credit union?

Cool concept - sounds like there could be some real possibility depending on the direction of the company once it gets going.

1st thought - there would be A LOT of logistical issues to take into account...human nature too...

Flexibility, innovation and communication would have to be emphasized even more than they are in a normal marketplace

Everything starts with an idea right?

How would you determine your product?

I got to say it but I'm sure someone else will as well...

Isn't this the direction we're headed globally already?

Corporations are already getting to the point where they can pretty much tell government what they want to do and get a rubber stamp and a wink.

Do we really want a corporation running the world?

Not nay saying...I like the idea...it would really be hard to keep it honest once it got to a certain size though

Cool concept indeed.

You just basically described socialism, the workers ownership of the means of production.

Its nothing new and has been done before. Eventually it will get so large and profitable that it becomes just another business, with stockholders and corporate dudes. You would need "rules" to stop at least that one thing. Some people are greedy and do not think of others.

We should start with our own Bank. The transfer day was a good start. What if we could all keep our money together with no hidden fee's and stuff like that. We could encourage credit unions to come on board. Once we had a competitive global Bank set up,the rest would fall into place alot easier. We need our own Global Peoples Bank

Government is central to socialism...the government owns the corporations (or at least the important ones)

I think the OP's concept is more of a self sufficient model through cooperation and I guess ultimately it would be government through corporation once the red tape got long enough...which it would...it always does.

In a cooperative there is really no way a person can become more powerful unless they are allowed to. You don't need rules to stop that, just aware employees who understand the idea of collective cooperatives. It is classic socialism.

It would have to be non-profit and absolutely no investment of the funds in the community pool...to nip it in the bud accounts would have to be fixed funds - not even any interest (that's how it starts...)

No it is not. Socialism is the workers ownership of the means of production. An economic system that requires no government...

Then it would be libertarian socialism, anarchism. Stateless socialism. Worker ownership is socialism.

Socialist ownership of the means of production is ownership by all workers. Capitalists cease to exist and workers cease to be their employees.

I think we do want a corporation running the world. But it must be owned by and for the people. We definitely dont want corporations we dont own running things. It would be like how the Fans own the Greenbay Packers. We could make things non-profit and community owned.

The company being developed here is owned and directed by it's employee's. One goal is to develop a structure within the company of equality where in the employee's (globally) control the direction of the company and it's assets. Profit sharing and ownership must also be divided so as not to allow any one person or sub group to control the company. I'm not suggesting "socialism" per se. This should hopefully be a new concept entirely, combining together the things that we do know work, and or creating idea's that will work.

I would suggest that we would need a corporate structure in many ways. I would think the employees would vote in thier board of directors and other corporate officers; with the ability to remove them from office at any time for failure to perform..

Ok - you're talking about economic socialism - not governmental socialism...I'm with you.

Edit: Coming back to this thread tomorrow - I'm an optimist - I really am. I like it - but this optimist has to work for a corporation that I don't own tomorrow morning so the bills can get paid

I dont wish to control the company.
I just wish to become a part owner and help with the "profit sharing" you speak of.
What rules do you have in place to stop me if I change my mind later on and decide to not do any (or much) work?

I personally don't have any rules in place and would be no more in this than any of you - an employee. I would however think that a person who performs poorly would get what they would at any other job, reprimanded or fired.

Companies like the ones you've linked to are very similar to what I'm talking about. Rather than being a local cooperative though, this one would be global and very diverse. I don't mean to be "antisocial" lol - but buzzwords like socialism convey too varied a concept. This is meant to be a unique company design taking the best from all concepts to create a working successful model.
