In September, President Obama awarded the Medal of Honor, the nation's most prestigious military award, to Sgt. Dakota Meyer, the marine who saved 36 of his comrades during an ambush in Afghanistan.

Obama called Meyer one of the most "down-to-earth guys that you will ever meet."

Now this just goes to piss me off...

But today Meyer, 23, is having trouble getting a job because of allegations by defense contractor BAE Systems that he has a drinking problem and is mentally unstable. Meyer filed legal papers Monday claiming the allegations were in retaliation for objections he raised about BAE's alleged decision to sell high-tech sniper scopes to the Pakistani military.

they are selling the high tech sniper scopes....

forget the dirty play which is the corporate standard.....This is a treasonable act by the company...

In March 2011, Meyer began working at BAE Systems, a British military contracting company, where he learned the company was trying to sell advanced thermal optic scopes to the Pakistani military.

"We are taking the best gear, the best technology on the market to date and giving it to guys known to stab us in the back," Meyer wrote to BAE Systems manager Bobby McCreight, his former co-worker, according to the lawsuit. "These are the same people killing our guys."

But BAE Systems is claiming that that decision is not up to them.

"The U.S. Department of State, not BAE Systems, makes the decision on what defense-related products can be exported. In recent years, the U.S. Government has approved the export of defense-related goods from numerous defense companies to Pakistan as part of the United States' bilateral relationship with that country," said Brian J. Roehrkasse, the vice president of public relations at BAE, in a statement.

The state department makes that decision not us?????

So yes they are selling it...

That's terrible they are doing that to this marine. Good on him for sure though about raising the flag about the optics though, I hope it works out for him.

I am betting that Meyer might indeed having some mental problems and might be drinking a bit, it is not uncommon for vets to have troubles comming back from war.....the question is

Was his problem severe enough to get him fired? Did it jeopardize his work performance? Was this an ongoing problem for him that was documented within the company PRIOR to him criticizing the selling of tech to the Pakistanis?

Or is Meyers drinking and mental problems just being used as a easy excuse because he blew the whistle on a dirty little secret that our govt and defense contractors do not want us knowing about?

I would really love to hear from this contractor and Meyer himself just how bad Meyers mental/drinking problem was.....I bet I would hear two vastly different stories ; )

The CMOH means something... his word is just about gold... If he reports this to say a 4 star Admiral, even though he is no longer active duty, the Admiral has to salute him first

He passed a rigorous background investigation to be eligible for the Medal.... which included psych...

This is why you don't join the military.

It was once an honorable profession, and on an individual level can still very much be so.

But today you are 100% disposable. If you are issued an illegal order you can refuse it, but you'll be crucified. If you see and expose corruption you will be put in military jail, held naked and forced to take drugs. If you speak out against the herd mentality you will be beaten, discredited, buried alive.

The military is no longer a place for thinking individuals. Stop supporting war by refusing to serve in the military.

I have a great deal of respect for those in the military who have witnessed corruption and spoken out. I hope they get the justice they deserve.

i was in the market for a C-17 globemaster and some 155mm ammunition.

but they way they treated this medal of honor awardee, who single handedly killed 8 taliban insurgents with his humvee 50 cal turret and made multiple runs into hostile fire to save 36 comrades who apparently lost the ability to fire their weapon makes me puke and makes me want to go to thor global defense group for all my 155mm ammuntion needs.

Kind of reminds me during the Iraq/Iran war when the Americans and Israelis were selling weaponry to both sides.

The British would sell their own mother if they thought there was a profit in it.

This soldier should be highly commended for speaking out....it could save more lives of his men if this equipment stops from going to the other side.

The fact that exporting defense-related goods to Pakistan, among other countries, is in my opinion evidence that those who make these policies are corrupt. Why would this be legal? Probably because selling these goods to enemy foreign governments, and we know Pakistan is not an ally, will make a lot of money for a lot of people...those making the laws, as well as the corporations that are in their pockets.

So now BAE Systems can say that what they are doing isn't ILLEGAL. Of course it isn't illegal, it will just get more of our citizens killed, and since when have morals swayed the decision to make big money?

ETA: I forgot to respond to the actual story, lol. If this company's allegations are true, why would this man fight them? It would be next to impossible to win against a large company in the courtroom if the truth wasn't on your side.

I believe the guy when he says this is revenge related. Typical of what goes on in politics as well. Most of these large companies are very skilled in this area, and they have unlimited funds to throw at the law.

It is a UK based company....

I will take slight detour and add a wee bit of my understandin (If someone has more accurate info let me...)

When a foreign company does business in America it has to have a business agent in that country that is accountable.. And they have to list their board of directors and operating officers...

When an out of state corporation does the same thing it has to file papers to do business in that state...

This means that the company filed two sets of papers one with the stat government and one with the federal...


Also on top of this the company has to go through a background investigating process to sell to the DOD...secured supply lines, massive employee background checks,

As for the nationality of the board...

Their is a law I cant find now that clinton signed that allows the us to go into any country it wants and arrest whoever they want.....

I see it as feasible....

I think this is what makes it feasible.... Not to mention the Uk might have its own issues with it

Seems not many people believe in due process and would rather have a kangaroo system....

Making a lot of assumptions there. Firstly, that he speaks the truth. Secondly, that any equipment sold to the Pakistani military will make it into Taliban hands. I know they aren't perfect, but they have their own war with the extremists going on as well.

I am sure you're also aware of the US equipment that turns up in Taliban hands because Americans just leave it on the battlefield? Two British soldiers were killed last year by an Afghan sniper using an M-16 with NATO rounds, for example.

Happens to all Vets, the same thing usually happens to UK Soldiers coming out of the Armed forces they find it difficult also to gain employment.

The question should be asked is this, opinion with regards to vets of any armed forces, the same across the board,. Or are they applied by just a few companies.
