Couldnt' see this news posted here so thoght I would add it. I am intrested in Iran's submarines and what part they will play in any war.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian state TV says the country has added three more domestically-built submarines to its naval fleet.
The Sunday report said the vessels were delivered to the Iranian navy in southern port of Bandar Abbas. It said the submarines were from the Ghadir class, of which Iran already has four.

Three new submarines

Irans Known Submarines.

Iran's submarine force currently consists of three Russian Kilo-class diesel-electric submarines (Tareq 901, Noor 902, Yunes 903), one 500-ton Nahang and four 120-ton Yono-class (also referred to as Qadir or Ghadir-class) midget submarines.[1] The Iranian Navy plays a crucial strategic role in Iran's national security architecture due to Tehran's dependence on the Persian Gulf for trade and security. However, its naval forces also operate in the Gulf of Oman, the Caspian Sea and, possibly, the Indian Ocean.[2]

Iran shure is building up their army, first their new flying boats
and now extra submarines.

I think war is pretty close now, the tensions are getting higher and higher.

Sweet! Something for our fast attack subs to practice against.
Maybe while they're on the bottom of the ocean becoming fish bait, they can say hello to Bin Laden.

Why does Iran not understand... Unless Russia moved a sh*t load of missle defence systems into Iran there is no hope for them, U.S. or Israel wouldn't be dumb enough to attack with light force. Russia would just have to retaliate after the fact which would be pointless if Iran is already gone.

I can't see these being more than target practice for one of our fast attacks, while on the midwatch, in-between movies and giving the cooks crap because they served "Pillows of Death" at mid rats again.

But seriously a diesel electric sub is a formatible opponent in latorial waters when manned by a well disiplined and tactically compenant crew. So face it... They don't have anywhere near the required training needed to navigate hostile waters undetected. The sub is only as quite as what their crew can make it.

Uhhhhh, nope. Try again. Those subs are ancient tech, and the U.S. Navy would sink each and every one of them in about 15 minutes. Bin Laden was dropped in the Indian Ocean, and many of these subs will wind up on the bottom...with Bin Laden. Sorry, but "facts" are not "trolling".

since one attacks their ennemy at their weakest point and when possible avoid their strenght, these could be used to sink oil tankers.
and the usa will propably sink a few to blame the iranians.

while the west has a powerful military, it's economy and finances are in shamble.

sink some tankers, launch missiles at saudi arabia's overland pipelines, the damage is done.

the oil companies will move to fleece the world markets and make billions in profit.
the hedge funds will play the commodities and make more billions.

the russians get very rich off europe buying thier gas and oil at "market" prices.

the weakness of the west is their political system has become dysfunctional and their financial sector corrupt to it's core.

and iran's russian friends can sit back, make diplomatic noise and prosper as the western economies gasp.

hate to sound like a cassandra, but this doesn't look good for anyone involved.

Not quite... Actually, when under, they run on batteries and while on surface, they run on diesel.
Now, as a diesel electric sub does not have cooling fans, humming etc.. nuke is actually louder than conventional sub, so it is actually Iran that could have an advantage over US sub, if they go SLOW and QUIET enough...

US Sub:
-greater depth
-more speed
-more firepower
-more advanced electronics and equipment

Iran sub:
-more quiet
-slow speed
-hunter killer
-dependent on battery if not used the right way...
-unreliable equipment on old generation
-hard to use

So in terms, if Iran plays the submarine card right, it's gonna be a very bad day for US fleet.
But, whoever shoots first is gonna be detected. And primary weapon of a submarine is stealth, not torpedo.

unless if you are from the future with proof (documents, images, or video footage) recorded to show that the iranian subs will in fact be sunk in the indian ocean by the US in the next war then i will listen to you. until then your claim is stupid, I mean to say that the US is superior is one thing, but to predict where and how and by whom a submarine will be sunk is simply trolling...

You're an idiot. I worked in Anti-Sub-Warfare while in the Navy, and I'm quite capable of knowing what technology the U.S. has compared to the tin cans that Iran is setting sail with.

It will be like taking a modern tank and putting it up against one from WWII. The WWII tank simply doesn't stand a chance. Period. I don't need to be a time traveler to draw that obvious conclusion. Only a complete moron would think otherwise.
