People over analyze some of these UFO pictures to where it becomes laughable nonsense and absurd to take anything credible. No way to tell if this picture is fake or not.No one has shown it is fake in any way whatsoever.

That's right. Give it up people. As many must have said here, pictures alone, and videos, no matter how good, are not considered evidence anymore. They only count as evidence if the same picture was taken by a massive number of people, not two, not three or four... massive numbers that it's not mistakable. Same for videos. It has to be taken from different angles by many many many people. But, just one single good looking picture is as good as your wallpaper. And one might say, well, UFO's mostly appear for a little amount to of time so it's not easy to get many pictures from many people. Well, that's just too bad. Still doesn't change the acceptance criteria. When many people are ready to take many many pictures of the same UFO (which I can't see why is it really hard in a day where almost no one has no camera on their phone) then we'll see. Good example is the Norway spiral. If the Norway spiral was just a photo and one account from one person... it would have been an official fake EVEN IF the picture and video were legit and original. The only reason it became official and real is that many people saw it and shot it and many people reported it, and that's all, of course, unlike your father's picture. If your father's picture is real, it's STILL as much evidence that UFO's exist as this picture:

my thoughts exactly. It's an interesting photo for sure. And I believe the op's story is genuine. However there's just no way to tell without actually physically seeing the photograph and having it analysed. But thanks for sharing op

I too am following this thread with interest. I'm in my late 40's and saw an almost identical craft in 70 or 71, while visiting my Grandmother who lived about 200 miles south/southwest of where this sighting took place. The whole thing including the rim was a shiny metallic silver and it looked like a cup had been turned upside down on the top of it. It was stationary overtop of one of the surrounding mountains by her home. It made no noise and was pitched at an angle.

I grew up in Whitehall Ohio which is right next to Port Columbus and Rickenbacker AFB and saw tons of planes, blimps and hot air balloons but nothing that could just sit in the sky like that. My granny, my mom, my aunt, my older sister and myself stood there and looked at it for a minute then went in the house. A few minutes later my aunt sent me back outside to see if it was there. It was but it had moved a couple hundred feet to the left. I told her what I had seen and went back to playing.

I know what we saw so it can only be two things - experimental craft or from somewhere else. One of the first things I did when the internet became available was to research the area. I believe location is everything, whether it is us or not.

With that in mind, I can point out that both WVA and PA are coal states. Both have/had underground bunkers (Raven Rock/Greenbrier) for contingency of government.

Very cool photo, I wasn't going to bother adding to this post, mainly because I am busy and tired lately. Anyway, I tend to lean towards believing in Unidentified Flying Objects mainly not only because of unexplainable thing's I have seen in the sky, but also because of what close friends and family who have witnessed UFO's have told me. A few weeks ago, I got a call one evening from my sister who had just left the Airport and was returning home from a vacation in Cancun Mexico with her friend. She was totally pumped. Her and her friend where out on their hotel room balcony one evening taking in the view of the Gulf. She said they thought they where watching a shooting star zipping across the sky. It was lit up and had a bit of a green tinge to it. It was moving super fast. They thought, thats cool, a shooting star, until it came to a dead stop, then took a 90 degree turn backwards into a cloud. They where freaking out...lol. As the cloud would start to move away, the UFO would zip into the next cloud, and the next cloud...etc. Finally it started to really illuminate the cloud, and they could see the oval shape totally lit up in the cloud. Then more clouds came in and they lost sight of it. I asked how long the sighting lasted, they said about 15 min. I really let into them for not running to get their video camera. They said they where to in Aaaww and didn't want to miss anything. They had mentioned what they had seen to one of the local employees, he smiled and said, Yes, I know what You are talking about. The UFO's cloud hop. They hide in the clouds he told her. She said when you get talking with some of the locals about it, they don't get weirded out and look at you like you are crazy, instead they open up and share there own personal UFO accounts. My sister is 43 yrs old, a respectable adult, I have known her my whole life, and I believe her.
Roughly a couple of weeks after my sister telling me that, a buddy at work tells me how his brother in law seen one near our neighbourhood one night while he was walking his dog. He said it was lit up very bright, changing colour, went straight down, back up again and quickly darted off on an angle. Also, My Dad, and my nephew where up North at our cottage watching satellites one night. Something up in the night sky stood out that was going really fast, Then it powered up and zipped off on a hard angle. Too many people are have sighting's.
Something is going on, whether its another dimension, other beings from other planets, or just awesome man made tech...Something is definetely going on. That's my opinion. So to see a great looking photo like this, I think, sure why not.

It's very interesting to note the similarities but, I believe, even more so to realize that no two sightings seem identical. And weirder yet, despite the thousands of eyewitness reports all over the world, some people still need "proof" of the existence of UFOs. I don't know what these things are but i know for certain they exist.

I like this picture but have no idea if it's real or not. But I don't need a picture to prove anything to me. I know what I saw. I just want to see one like the one I remember and this picture is closer than any I have ever seen and I've been looking for many years.

Couple notes on mine:

- hung motionless in the air
- never made the slightest sound
- went from full stop to full incredible speed instantly with no apparent acceleration

Your notes match mine, and all I could really add is that what we saw was mega shiney silver. This picture too is the closest match for what we saw. Mine is recorded around here somewhere in an old J. Lear thread from a radio program he did around 07.

It's very nice to meet someone who saw something so similar!

I too noticed the regular squares in the paper, I have also checked the image in "negative" color and can't make out any other wires...however, I feel that the image is probably a double negative, looking at the edges you can see fogging.

Also, the tree in the foreground on the left hand side has to be close to the photographer for the leaves to appear so large in comparison to the saucer.

I'll do a diagram to illustrate my point.

if the focus is on the object the way it seems to be, judging that it is in focus and the background in not, then anything much in front of the object would be blurry too. the whole sky could have been washed out either during processing or due to over exposure, the object is unlikely to have been pasted on as the amount of light on it perfectly match the sky, and is as over exposed.

i would deduce that the object was really there and is rather small judging by the trees in focus next to it. the sky is probably washed out on purpose to hide the fishing wire, it does seem like there is part of it visible.
the optical illusion works because you don't see the ground and there's no shadow to give you an indication of the true location of the object. your brain then tries to fit the pieces together....

Get yourself some night vision goggles, I am not sure what the best are for viewing as I am not that technical with them. Whoever sells them, reputable store, will know which ones you need. Take them wherever you travel. You will witness the most amazing activity overhead and quantity of traffic of UFOs which in this instance would only be lights. The behavior of these lights is amazing.....some wobble as they travel through space, some chase each other and zap each other, some just cruise in two's, others just cross the night sky. Oh yeah, I am talking night sky, clear night. The less city light, the better and if its a new moon, that is better. I plan to get some in 2012. Who they are, no clue. My friends tease me because I find them without the goggles. All I have to do is look up at the night sky and I almost always notice a UFO doing something that a typical jet CANNOT do. My last UFO Safari yielded 100 UFOs in a 2 hour period.

Please DO NOT USE THE PHRASE "believe in UFOs". They are real, extraterrestrial or otherwise. By saying that phrase you are perpetuating the ignorance. One can "believe in Santa Clause" one can "believe in God" as they are not proven realities. But, UFOs have been seen, documented and admitted by our armed forces during conferences at the Press Club in DC. What more do you want? I am not sure why we still have people going around and around in circles about this.

This was the best read I have read on here since the great Jerusalem UFO video.
Real or fake this is a very interesting picture. I am always on the fence and I am glad the OP shared this image with us. I have never seen it as none of us have so real or fake it was worth seeing.

After a bit of a haitus from ATS (3 months) due to work related re-locationing, I could not
help but be re-invigorated and excited by this ATS-displayed photo --- of which I recognize
the TYPE of craft...but not the actual photo or its designated time period.

If you look closely you will see a nose-cone on the front and an air intake inlet
just a bit below and to the side of the nose... the upper fuselage tapers out to a flattened bat-wing
shape with two upper engine out-flow ports looking VERY similar to the B2 Bombers
upper fuselage except the tail-pipes are near the rear of the craft rather than mid-frame
like those on the B2

This is a twin engine, turbo-fan delta wing craft with very round edges.
Not particulary stealthy...nor fast...but as a Soviet design from the 1960's
it can carry a bucket load of bombs.

While I remember viewing this type of design in the late 1980's
I personally think this photo is of a small-scale drone, a test mule
or an engineless engineering study craft probably between 6 to 12 feet in length.

If I remember correctly, this is a SOVIET COPY of a U.S. design
designed to be a smaller and rounder version of the
XB-70 high altitude bomber....(possibly originally
a North American design based on the similarity
of the inlets to a 50's era F-86 Sabre)

I CANNOT MAKE ANY CLAIM OR COMMENT on THIS particular
photo...BUT...I can make a comment on the design which is very similar
to those I've seen in the 1980's. I also vaguely remember seeing something
similar in a HOBBY STORE...in the early 1990's...big and expensive ($2000+)
that an ex-mil pilot decided to build as a scale model of "something".

The front of the craft is similar to the 1940's era Horten 229 bomber:

en.wikipedia.org...

so see the above link to see what i'm talking about regarding the shape
of the intake inlets versus those in the photo.

---

I hope this helps...AND...to those of you still waiting for my September-promised
treatise on how to FAKE realistic UFO videos on ATS...the sheer IRONY of me
being pulled away to from my "Normal" video production work in order to create
specialty software that "tries" to DETECT "fake" video streams from a legal point
of view is not lost on me.....I am incorporating some of my LEARNING into a
5 page pdf file instruction booklet which should outline WHAT to look for
when evaluating suspect imagery....OR.....you use it to AVOID the things that
show up as FAKE videos...aka MAKE A BETTER FAKE UFO VIDEO instruction sheet.

Because of the Christmas rush...the PDF file won't be made available on ATS
until the new year......!

Anyways I will still lurk around to make he odd comment here and there until the new year
when I won't be as busy!

now that's more like what i'm seeing, or more specifically this:
da plane da plane

but i still say it looks like it was taken underwater and that those areas in the "trees" that look like smoke plumes are either bubbles from vents on the ocean floor or dust from some kind of vegetation

I thought most people are ambidextrous when it comes to holding a photo? In IAMTAT's case I don't think he had much choice if they don't make cameras for lefties, he had to use his right hand to take the picture and his left hand to hold the photo, right? So it wouldn't matter which hand was dominant. But I'd argue that even 30 years ago or whenever the picture was new the dominant hand wouldn't matter too much, as the photo can easily be held with a non--dominant hand.

But it seemed like this could be more than a coincidence when you compare the location of the thumb with the location of the discoloration:

Yes,much better

I'm not saying it's from IAMTAT's thumbprint though...if it's fingerprint related, it's from someone holding it similarly a long time ago.

IAMTAT do you see any extra cracking of the glossy finish in the lower left corner or anything like that which might contribute to the light discoloration perhaps resulting from a fingerprint? Or does the light discoloration appear to be part of the original image? Or can you tell?
