More blacked out documents or something more revealing from the NSA?

Found this interesting piece earlier and I'm just curious to know what you guys thoughts are on it? I remember Stan Friedmans talks on censored released material from similar agencies to the NSA but is this something more?

Scientists determined that mysterious signals received in 1957 were transmitted to Earth from an advanced alien civilization. Decades have passed while security analysts and dedicated cryptographers struggled to decipher the enigmatic messages from a completely unknown, distant alien culture.

Now, in 2011, the National Security Agency—one of the United States' most secret intelligence gathering organizations—has released under protest (forced by order of a U.S. Federal Court judge) stunning information about intelligent life in the universe.

Anybody have any more info on this stuff?

yeah it was posted several times last year I believe , it turned out to be an exercise for cryptographers .

Yikes... That short article has more errors per paragraph than almost story about UFOs that I've read.

That's quite something.

Discussion of the NSA documents has come in various waves on ATS - in 2003, 2006, 2009 and - the big wave - this year.

13 threads in 2011

Few (if any) of those threads have referred to information about the NSA documents available from UFO books and other sources....

I've previously wondered whether the number of threads is a reason for avoiding writing about those documents OR a reason for writing a reasonably detailed thread about those documents at some point (which would not take very long, since the number of documents - and number of relevant sources discussing the documents - is relatively limited)...

It would be pretty funny if it was a commercial or an alien version of seinfield.

You mean cryptographers. The cartographers work for a different agency. But you're right, of course, this was an exercise they published internally. The fact that the whole thing is unclassified is kind of a dead giveaway that there's nothing groundbreaking here.

Nice to see a copy of these documents but like I said, having seen some of the stuff Friedman received it'll prob be black block/lined pages.

And so now, it's really,like, 2038 or so, (who knows for sure), and all the alphabet agencies that talk about security, really mean the opposite...

What's interesting is that the signals appear to be repeated in between pauses, sounds a bit like morse code, just saying

Never heard of this before. By the way, while the U.S. has many types, layers and variations in security classifications, unlike the British, Australians, Canada, etc, we never had something we called "The Official Secret's Act." Anyone aware of a true, authentic document from the U.S would know that.
