Good find even if there are no archeologists to back you up. Maybe it is natural to say Mars was a habitat like Earth at one time after al. Especially,l when you see something that looks like petrified remains or rocks that remind you of similar remains seen here showing up in these pics. Even if it is just a rock it looks like a reptile when compared to life on our planet. I am not a archeologist but I do work as an environmental chemist with a double major in biology too that I rarely get to use but still love pursuit of the information. Star and flag OP.

Hello Justoneman. Thank you so much for your interesting and frank comments. It is really good to hear from someone who has experience or education (your biology) that relates to some of the subjects we are discussing. The rocky stuff on the reptilian does make one think of a turtle!
I do think the rocky stuff looks to be "applied", but whatever!

You know, it has been hard in the past to actually talk about Mars being any kind of habitat for human type creatures, but, actually the NASA photographs pretty much prove it so. It seems that NASA et.al. has done everything they can to keep that from the public, but the truth is slowly coming out, including their various recent news releases relating to "water on the planet", existence of methane, and the private publication of what the photographs actually show, in forums like this. A little later on, I will be posting other anomalies in this thread that will continue confirmation of "unnatural artifacts", here in the Nereus Crater.

Very funny!! But my rather obvious "pareiadolia" doesn't show me a foot there!!

Chuck, that is a nice pic, and you must be having fun. Did you get that deer (or whatever it is) on Mars??

Edit: Also, it looks like the upper back area had been photoshopped or something... Looks like someone tried to blend the rock in with the object. Possible trying to cover it up? My personal thought.

chudek, you have it just right, and then some!! I congratulate you for being able to "connect the dots", and see it for what it is! Thanks for your comments. I do agree that the stone looking stuff on top of the reptilian-looking object looks like it could be photo tampering. That has been my thought since I first found this, but just chose not to mention it in the OP. Of course, the next question would be, "well if they tampered with it, then why did they leave anything showing"??
And I would say "who knows"!

edit on 24-11-2011 by rdunk because: (no reason given)

Possibly, they just wanted it to simply look like a rock. Usually people will look at these photos for 5-10 seconds tops and not even consider the possibility of something like this. They will just glance at the landscape, say "oh cool, a rock" and be done with it. Who knows.

When I come across an image like this, the first thing I do is look at the other images taken of the same area, either taken at a different time or a different angle. In this case, I found another picture taken 23 hours earlier.

The object in question was there in the exact same position more than 23 hours prior to when the picture in the OP was taken. I found a picture taken on Sol 2009 that shows the same object. The fact that the object looks exactly the same after 23 hours gives me more reason to believe it is a rock.

Here is the picture from the OP. It is an image from the Panoramic Camera taken on Sol 2010:

Here is a picture from 23 hours earlier taken by the Navigation Camera on Sol 2009. I circled and enlarged the area in question:

I suppose someone could argue that Mars life maybe doesn't move that quickly, or the thing was alive but died recently, but it seem MUCH more likely that it is just a rock, because it looks like just a rock -- albeit a rock with a funny shape that could look like a reptile if a person uses their imagination.

I know the picture I posted from Sol 2009 was take over 23 hours prior to the image the OP linked because a time stamp is included in the file names of all of the Mars Rover images.

The OP's picture was file name "1P306622172EFFA600P2410R2M1.JPG".
The picture I posted was file name "1N306538333EFFA600P1647R0M1.JPG"

The time stamp built into the file names is the 3rd through the 11th character in the file name (in seconds).

306622172 seconds "minus" 306538333 seconds = 83794 seconds, or 23.276 hours.

If you want to see the original NASA image files of both pictures (the picture in the OP and the one I posted), here are links to them:

The OP's from Sol 2010:

chudek, you are right! One often misses much of what is in some of these photos, if they are just reviewed with a short "glance". What makes it so difficult for us, even with the best of photos is, we see what we can see in the pic, but there almost always remains so much that is "unknown". Discussing whether an anomaly is just a rock or an unnatural artifact is the easy part. The hard part is the conjectural thoughts and remarks about the whos, whys, hows, wheres, and whereas's relative to an anomaly. That is pretty hard, because all we know is what we can discern from the pic. The rest is just "guessing"!

But, lets keep at it, and we will learn the truth one of these days! Thanks for the comments!!

Hey Soylent Green, thanks so much for for your input to these discussions. You did some good work in putting your reply together for us. Yes, you are right about the need to look for "proof" in as many pics as possible. As you said, when I have a possible "find", I too do the search for different angle shots, and different Sol days to get as much "proof" as possible to have a good foundational basis for an anomaly".

As In this case, I did look at all of the sol days around 2010 before making the post, and I didn't find anything much different. However, finding the same photos on different sol days actually confirms the validity of the pics regardless of whether they are artificial/biological artifacts, , or just rocks.

.............................................................................................................................................
Soylent Green,
Quote: "I suppose someone could argue that Mars life maybe doesn't move that quickly, or the thing was alive but died recently, but it seem MUCH more likely that it is just a rock, because it looks like just a rock -- albeit a rock with a funny shape that could look like a reptile if a person uses their imagination".
.................................................................................................................................
Soylent Green, I partially agree with you on this. What is covering about 80% the reptilian-looking anomaly looks like rock. The black reptilian-looking feature, with the very lumpy exterior, with a long mostly flat arm, that is showing two fingers just doesn't concur with the fit and look of a "rock".

Also, a very defining feature that some, as have you, continue to leave out completely in this discussion, is the small shield attached to the hand of the reptile, or the hand of that "rock".
To me, that little piece is at least as telling about "life on Mars", as is the reptilian-looking feature. We can see the entire little shield, and we can see the symbols on it in the photos. I mean, maybe it's just me. I guess, but I think that little shield is indisputable for what it is, and thus ads tremendous credence to whatever we think that little shield shaped object is attached to, reptilian or rock!!!! And just why would anyone, alien or otherwise, attach such a "shield" to a rock??

I am going to post another screenshot that only shows the reptilian-looking object's head and partial chest, just to give everyone another good look at this piece of the anomaly. Also, another look at just the shield.

Also am posting a link to the full pic of that screen shot. These are also from Sol day 2010 panorama cam.

Now you've encouraged him Phage!! :-P

I'm not trying to hurt your feelings (OP) or bring you down in any way, but it just seems a tad silly finding lets face it, a rock, and projecting your 'reptilian' desires onto it. Either of us can't really prove things either way (but it IS 1000's times more likely to be a rock) until proper scientific research is done on Mars. Seems like you've got a wonderfully creative imagination, maybe direct some of that energy into creating some art? I'm sure you will feel far more satisfied with yourself. Anyways, just trying to help.

Qumulys, you are pretty funny! you certainly are not going to hurt my feelings, just by making comments relative to your opinion of my post (s)! I have "been there and done that", and know that often there are some folks that just can't make photograph lines come together, nor able to "connect the dots" sometimes.

From the photos, it is pretty clear that something quite unusual is shown here. Reptilian?? Absolutely no way to know for sure until we get to Mars. Might help a lot if NASA were to release the original photos, without the obvious tampering. I will discuss more on photo tampering with my next anomaly post in this thread.

Thanks for your comments Qumulys!!

My opinion remains - solid anomalies for sure, and not rocks!

Personally, I think the whole thing looks like a rock -- Both the part you call the "reptile' AND the thig you say is a rock covering the reptile. I just see rock with a shape that creates light and shadows.

The "shield" even looks just like a flat rock. Is it shiled-shaped? Sure, I guess. But I think it still looks like a rock.

In addition, if this was a living creature, I'm not sure why it would not have moved at all in the 23 hours time between the times the photo I linked and the photo you linked were taken.

It may have an interesting shape and cast interesting shadows, but in the end I think it looks like a rock and it acts like a rock (i.e., it doesn't move), therefore I think it is a rock.

Hey Soylent Green, you are certainly welcome to tell us what you think and see. Might have been a little misunderstanding regarding the reptilian-looking anomaly. I never suggested that it was "living. Rather I said it might be a part of some type of monument (meaning statue), or, it might be a cadaver (meaning dead) in a burial place. I do have reason to believe this area might be a burial place anyway.

And regarding the small shield object.........................well, we just disagree with our opinions about that, which is ok!

Thanks for your comments!

P.S. I do remember the original movie, involving "Soylent Green, and yes, it was the people!!

Agreed. Either way, it is still an anomaly...even if it is a rock (due to the texture of it being different). We'll never know if it is a reptilian or a rock. Having an open mind is the key. Anyways, now I'm going to be looking at mars photos for hours and hours now.

Congrats to a new ATS member with a dynamite first thread!

In fact it does look like the top of the back and rear of the head of a reptiloid aka reptlian humanoid, with its arm downstretched by its side in the foreground, with a small metallic shield shaped object near its hand. Great Find - keep up the good work!

My, Mars is abundant with all sorts of life according to many of these threads. I've read all about rats, gorillas, reptiles, cattle etc., being shown in every inch of rover pictures on the planet's surface by some enthusiast.

My question is, What do they eat?

I know Mars is not Earth but here on planet Earth the reptiles usually consume insects, small mammals, and maybe even some flora, etc. But looking over images returned from Mars I have never seen vegetation like Martian bananas, insects, nor small mammals unless they were suspect of being another rock. Even the little humanoid rock figure that caused a stir some time back was in a desert devoid of vegetation and devoid of little footprints in the sand all around the image.

Maybe the sandstorms covered up all of the critter tracks but why are the critter rock looking things never covered by sand?

Just one of many questions I have when reading a new life on Mars thread. I do think microbial life can exist on Mars under proper conditions but gorillas have me shaking my head. If they are real then we need to send them some trees so that they can enjoy swinging like their Earth cousins

Hey chudek, one thing for sure the more you look at the surface of Mars, the more unnatural stuff you will probably find, to show to the rest of us!!

In thinking about what you said, in regard to looking at the Mars photos, I thought about the possibility that some here might not know the links for some of the direct resources for the NASA photos. So, I will post a couple of links that might help some of you as you begin just looking around on Mars, or as you start actually researching for Martian anomalies. The more we have looking, the more we will find!!

Rover and Opportunity Photographs

The Rover photos are some of the very best images available of the Martian surface. Of course their areas of photography is limited to their specific search routes, but they took a lot of pics over a lot of Sol days. Rover Spirit took 128,224 raw images, and Rover Opportunity has taken 161,708 images. So, there really is a lot to look at!!!

To start, here is a link to the Mars Exploration Rover Mission page.

marsrover.nasa.gov...

This page is the top level page for both Rovers. You can make selections in two places here, in the center of the page, and in the menu to the left. For most of my photo research, I use the "raw images". So, to start your search, select, under raw images which Rover you want to use.

Your Rover selection will bring up a page that shows the individual onboard cameras, and under each camera is a listing of Sol days (each camera day), and the number of images taken that day by the camera. For general photo research, the Panoramic camera and the Navigation camera are the cameras to use.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Another link I find very helpful takes the Rover photographs and makes continuous larger mosaics of the areas. Some of these are very stunning, and often very informative.

Link: nivnac.co.uk...

This link is the top page for "Martian Vistas", with pictures taken by Spirit, Opportunity, and Phoenix on Mars. On the right of this page, you can select the Rover you want, and that will take you to all of the photos/Sol days for that Rover. At this site, often a photo will be a mosaic of several days, with multiple resolution pics available. Some range from fairly small to quite large, resolution size-wise. These pics are always presented colorized, which gives us a little different "look" relative to appearance and contrast.

Thanks for your comments paperface. One thing for sure, we just can't know what is going to show up next as another Martian anomaly. But, another thing for sure, I am right there with you, in "being convinced that life forms either are there" now, or were there for life, or reason, sometime in the past!
