For those of you that cannot get the page to load, see if you can ping the website.

I am pinging it now and the IP coming back is 174.129.212.2 I have Cox and I can see the site as well right now.

If you cannot ping it by domain name then try the IP. If you CAN ping it by the IP then try entering that in to your browser instead of the domain name.

If you cannot ping by domain or IP then try running a tracert and see what comes back.

I used to work for an ISP and these are all things I would have had a customer do. Let me know what you find and who your ISP is!!!!

**General instructions on how to run a ping test**
This will work for Windows XP

1. Click on the Start button
2. click on Run
3. type cmd in the box and then click OK

Black screen pops up (DOS window)

4. exactly where the little flashing cursor is type the following: ping americansensorship.org
5. press Enter on your keyboard

You want to see if you get any replies. If NOT then try the same thing but instead of americansensorship.org type in the following: 174.129.212.2 and then press Enter

If you need instructions for Windows Vista or 7 let me know.

I just did pings and traceroutes for both the IP and URL..

I'm getting packets back on the IP but its still telling me that URL is unknown host and "proxy.heroku.com" back on the traceroute for the IP.

Does anyone have an old laptop with a telephone modem plugged in? I'd suggest trying that to see if it'll allow you to view the website. If it does, you have a backup should your DSL internet become clogged with censorship.

Thought I would try this out.

I am not able to access this from the UK via BT broadband.

I checked Down for everyone or just me and it states that the website is down for everyone.

Very strange, I just used a proxy to access the site and it is coming up??

I can also view this if I use google to search for it then click on the results

It would not surprise me if this is a publicity stunt, ive seen worse, it would be the perfect way to get people to experience what internet censorship would be like in a tiny sense and get lots of people talking about the website's cause etc. It is a marketing win - win.

I thought this may have been some sort of bad joke but sure enough it is blocked, Verizon here. Was able to access it using TOR.

Sort of ironic that the first thing on their page is the warning that Congress is holding hearings on American internet censorship.

Yeah I know, it appears that it may possibly be just an issue with Slow DNS upgrades throughout the US, sometimes I hear it can take up to 48 hours, but you would expect slow DNS updates from smaller companies first... not the largest ones.

You have that backwards, the larger the provider the more likely their dns servers have seen a request for the site and hence more likely they cached a record that had a long ttl. There does not appear to be any censorship here, just someone screwed up their dns. And, as usual, things fixed themsleves.

Funny watching people respond taking this at face value claiming censorship and the man was out to get them, typical ATS.

Agreed. What people don't understand is, anytime you change a webserver's public IP address (maybe they switched providers), you have to get a DNS update from your new provider. It could take up to 3 days for it to propagate across the entire planet. Just FYI.

Does it matter what method you use to log on? The internet is still the internet whether you log on via dial up or DSL, no?
