"One of the great pieces of unfinished business is high-quality child care; I wonder why we just can’t do that,’’ she recently said to a California audience.
By "we", Pelosi means the federal government. Pelosi clarified that Congress should be “doing for child care what we did for health-care reform.”

And I'm not defending Pelosi or anything, but government childcare would be beneficial for a lot of families, whether it's federal or state or whatever.

What's wrong with that? Mom's wouldn't be forced to do it. Why would the kids be treated differently than if they went to a private daycare? Millions of moms send their kids to public schools, as did mine. I don't remember anyone becoming a Hitler youth.edit on 22-11-2011 by satron because: (no reason given)

anytime you put government in your family it only seperates you more and more. It would soon become the government in the parenting roles and the parents as just the income machine. Think about that for a minute. It's one step away from the government simply taking your kids, putting them in homes, and you just paying child support and having scheduled visits. Maybe I'm just paranoid, maybe.edit on 11//22//11 by digginforthetruth because: (no reason given)

If that's the only argument that you care to address in regards to what is wrong with this, I hope that you have had your right to vote taken away, untill you learn economics, capitalism and how America should be working, as set forth by the founding fathers.
let's play devils advocate...
Oh yeah, it's a great idea, just like Obama and healthcare which was the most constitutional thing in the world. It would be great to tax and make people pay for the care of other peoples children. I mean, if I didn't have a job and couldn't pay for childcare, I would love to have more freedom. That means, I would be free to have a job now! Oh yeah, and now that I have a job, I can pay for childcare! This solves everything! Who needs capitalism, when I can just get other people to pay for my way. Lets just hope that we don't run out of other peoples money. I might not learn any true lessons in responsibility, in which will spill over into my work ethics and reiterated in my perfomance, but at least I didn't pay for it!
Oh wait...
I did pay for it... and now my children are paying for it, and oh yeah, their children will pay for it. DARN!
Edit: Ok I guess not have you 'right taken away', I apologize for making that statement. Rather, I would imply that you restrict yourself from voting before you elect officials that contribute to the collapse of a great nationedit on 22-11-2011 by MESSAGEFROMTHESTARS because: additional information:recant

Conspiracy theory has postulated for the last 20 years that the state wants to raise the children. Pelosi seems to confirm this crazy idea rather than support families. Innnnnteresting.
