BTW by 'bums' I assume you means homeless? Not all bums are homeless.

Answer to your first question...

Lose your job and your home would be a good start.

Don't even think about being homeless as a lifestyle though, you will regret it badly. I have been there, and came back. I'm still a bum, but not homeless... It's tough to come back.

You do realise that you are talking about human beings eh? If not, here's a semi-friendly reminder. If it was you living on the streets I honestly don't think you'd last a day with an attitude like that.

On the occupy note, and boy I stayed away from those conversations...anyone GO to NYC during OWS? I did while I was there visiting friends and it was actually scary. I wouldn't walk in there by myself. Nothing like the late 60's-70's protests, that's for sure.

I know quite a bit of mountain "bums" with places here as well. I have a friend, Vietnam vet who lives in a hunting camp/trailer and I still have not been able to figure out how he survives day to day. Good man, interesting man and a kind, helpful, sober, day to day bum.

I have often fantasized about just packing a bag and going "On the Road" guess thats the beatnik in me, but I wouldn't go to cities I would stay in the forest's, valleys and the open road.
I couldn't do it in the UK but if I just hopped on a plane to the US maybe......
