Mystery after man 'bursts into flames' outside Swedish station

www.news.com.au]So urce

A MAN suffered severe burns after he seemingly burst into flames outside a Swedish railway station, the Goteborgs-Posten newspaper reported today.

A streetcar driver returning from his break yesterday evening saw the man suddenly covered in fire while he was standing outside a vinyl record store at the station.

Possibly a rare case of spontaneous combustion? There have only been 200 reported cases ever. So if it is combustion, would be interesting to find out what caused it.

en.wikipedia.org...

The streetcar driver then ran up, ripped his coat off and managed to put the fire out with the help of another man. An ambulance arrived within minutes and took the man to the hospital.

He's lucky he had people around to put him out because I think randomly becoming a human torch would be so shocking you wouldn’t have a clue what to do.

Wow, interesting.

I have not heard of a case of spontaneous combustion for ages!! Nice find.

I still believe the mitochondria explanation is a good theory concerning this topic.

Maybe sparks were created by his clothes and he let one fly..

Just a theory... Combines with some flammable fabric you have a human torch.

Yeah I cant even remember the last time I heard about it, considering he survived we may be able to get a good insight into what happened.
I dunno I doubt mitochondria could cause it, but who knows.

Oh Shocking to say the least.

Did the individual die?

If so goodness what a horrible way to go. What cause that to just happen anyways?

Occams razor would probably support this theory, or that he was drinking a few fine spirits..

Very shocking
the article states:

"He is sedated and will probably remain under for another couple of weeks," he added, saying there was no indication of any foul play.

So lets hope he will be ok

The article says its a mystery, so if it was a case of spontaneus combustion; no one knows what caused it.

There is nothing in the article that suggests a spontaneous combustion.
If so the victim would have suffered from internal burnings.

There is also nothing that suggest it wasn't.

If the guy was walking there, and suddenly burst into flames, the conclusion most will make is sc.

No one saw him being hit with a molotov cocktail perhaps, or setting himself on fire. Thus we can go for the sc conclusion.

No one just bursts into flames, be it sc, or something else.

There are a lot of possible explanations, for example, he could have played with his cigarette-light in his pocket.

I agree with the above poster that spontaneous combustion theory has some problems. There would be internal burning and burning flesh creates a lot of smoke and a horrible smell. I have hears of one other situation of sc where the victim survived, this one be the second one. Lets all hope he does survive so we might learn something else about this phenomena.

It is fascinating, a leaky lighter and flammable clothe could possibly cause that. Just walking down the sidewalk, you would still need something to ignite it? It will be interesting to see were the burns are located on the person to make a decision.Internally or externally.

vinyl record store

That is also interesting part too. I didn't know anyone was still selling LP's and 45's

We used to have one here selling used ones.

Microwaved? Several mobile phones can produce the effect. It is also a weapon technology, used by Americans.

I don't believe in spontaneous combustion. But I do believe in HAARP and strange targetted occurences. Or a spark from something.

It could be. tragic anyway and wish him Godspeed.
investigation and careful one at that, will reveal more.
Was he frozen in place or move about, will reveal the
cause most likely. Was he and important person, to be
targeted by any scalar weapon.

That's not valid reasoning. There is no valid evidence that it wasn't an invisible beam from the andromeda galaxy that hit him and caused him to burst into flames either but that doesn't led us to believe that's what happened. Take a logic course.

Human body is like a candle from what I've read if the conditions are right. A spark gets on the clothing, little fire starts and clothing melts into fat. Fat burns, spontaneous combustion...

I know some people's cores get way hotter than some.... for different reasons, not sure what all kinds of reasons there are. a few years back i started getting allergic reactions on my chest and abdomen any time i got hot... that has somewhat subsided or i have just desensitized myself to it but now i notice my core gets hot to the point where i am nauseated. It helps to put water on it but if i drink a lot of water, my blood pressure goes up.

with me, it might be bacteriological because I have a bad tooth way up in my gums, probably putting some bacteria in my blood. It doesn't get real, real hot but it is enough to make me feel nauseated without otherwise feeling too hot anywhere else. i only bring that up because the body can have some weird reactions to things for different reasons and even a mild case of fever can get strange depending on the circumstances.

I wonder what all could cause that
