is a very old, not totally understood mechanical astronomical calculator.

those who don't know about this thing can do the googles: plenty of sensible info out there.

anyway, new data (cool story. can be googling this as well) have given clever humans enuf info to actually 'recreate' the thing. i thought that was very cool and i want one... but of course, there's only a couple an' forgetaboutit , right?

well. what about software implementation? i wouldn't have the actual mechanism, but i might nevertheless explore the dynamics right?

i found a guy who did it using a kids teaching platform : Squeak Etoys

only its not quite complete and i'm not enuf of a softwaretard to b fixen' it.

thought others might like the diversion and/or simply the cool history of the object.

Sorry some folks don't read the link.

Well it looks complicated for a children't product.

I think it's a great idea, but it's going to need some improvement in making it a little easier to understand.

One of the better sites to visit for more information about it:
The Antikythera Project

Particularly fascinating is how they've used digital radiographs to read the original Greek markings on the device. The high resolution graphics produced are very impressive.

My guess is a time traveler built it.

This dog is slow to hunt. This device was reported in the news within the last few months to have been recreated in Leggos. I don't know if that is true, but it has been recreated in wood.

its not a children's product. it is some fancy code living on the kids software platform: i guess it was easier/cheaper that way.

anyway. its all creative commons.
i was hoping some proper coders would get excited: an app running on my iphone would be too awesome.
