I also gave the download link for that quotation from the article. It's a legit source.

But does not mention that it is classified.... like you claimed it did!

How about YOU show us why the listed source is NOT reliable?

Do YOU have any proof to that effect?

Maybe you know of some hoax material they have posted in the past etc..

If not then I don't see how you can call it an unreliable source.

I've looked at the site you linked to as your source, and I have to say, it's a very suspect site, there's no real verifiable information there at all really, more like a blog.

I'd take the bulk of this story, along with some of the other crazy stories on that site, with a very large pinch of salt.

Is there something wrong with the .gov link where the quoted parts of that article came from?

Where does that state that it is classified?

No, there's nothing wrong with the .gov link.......except that link does not make some of the outlandish claims that the other site you linked to does.

Who gives a crap.. You honestly should drop your relentless attack over semantics directed at the OP. Just because the article may have frightened you or the OP fabricated one mistake doesn't give you the right to bully or discredit the rest of the entire post of valid information.

There's another pdf cited on the article by the quotation. If I had a .pdf program I'd download them and find the right one, but I don't. They are titled the same, and by the same author. If they don't match up it may be copyright infringement.

Back to the topic, what do you all think is down there? Only one speculation so far, which is a volcano. I'm not sure I can accept that though, because the water is constantly warm and a volcano does not constantly erupt. I'm going to laugh if they get down there and find it is a volcano, and the lake is not as old or as permanent as they thought. Talk about some wasted funding.

I'm not going to claim to be an expert here but the site also references the movie "The Thing" I'm not sure how accurate it could be. Not going to dismiss this as B.S but really 'The Thing"?

Could the interest being shown be because this may be as close as we can get to Europa and what we find here could at least help with missions being planned and even indicate what we may find.

I've been to the source and find it lacking. This clip below is a good example. It pulls "info" out of thin air and makes comparisons that make no sense. It reminds me of that notable Russian hoaxer. Note that the named professor's paper is not mentioned elsewhere. If the author of that article did due diligence or had a decent editor, the title would have been cited along with the prof's credentials . In fact, the named professor seems not at all tied to this work.

"Professor DeLaurier’s paper discussed the existence of a structure so vast that it defied imagination—a quasi-cylindrical loaf of an object measuring 65 miles long by 65 miles thick at a staggering depth of 80 miles. The huge structure had been detected by seismic equipment located at Alert, one of the U.S.-Canadian Distant Early Warning (DEW) stations in the Arctic wilderness. Studies showed that the object, which straddled the earth’s mantle and crust, was the source of some sort of disturbance—similar to the situation encountered at Lake Vostok 30-odd years later—affecting the magnetic field at the Alert facility and “inducing a strong flow of electricity.”

I say sloppy journalism (at the least) with the original article which is furthered by the baseless defense of the OP of his views on the article.

people who prefer facts instead of silly made up stories. Lake Vostok is interesting enough on its own without making up garbage about it!

or discredit the rest of the entire post of valid information

what valid information would that be? making out it is classified when it is not makes the whole article suspect.

I'd go with the opinions you linked to in the pdf .gov file, that it's a thinning of the earth's crust, causing the water in the lake to warm.

Just my opinion of course.

He's just being a Phage.

Although his lack of disproof makes me think the entire thing might be true. Scary.

There was an x files program that related to this a few years ago, it was quite a good one if my recollections are correct, lots of people spewing lots of different stories about it though. 1 day we may find out, we shall see or not lol

Lake Vostok is very much home to the russians. They're drilling through the ice to the lake, as at Jan this year they had about 50' to go but were "beaten by the onset of antarctic winter", they intend to commence drilling again this southern hemisphere summer, ie quite soon. Wonder what they might be looking for?

It's the Russians drilling into the lake, not the Americans, so everything claiming this is under US (NSA, etc) control is clearly made up.
