There's a new prophecy book out at the moment called Unveiling the Apocalypse by Emmett O'Regan which argues that the collapse of the volcano Cumbre Vieja in the Canary Islands is predicted in the book of Revelation and various other places in the bible. I'll post a few relevant extracts from the author's blog below:

The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood. (Rev 8:8)

Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, ― So will Babylon the great city be thrown down with violence, and will be found no more… (Rev 18:21)

The majority of scholars recognize that these two events in the Apocalypse refer to the same event. G.K. Beale for example states: "the burning mountain cast into the sea refers to the judgment of a wicked kingdom. This kingdom is to be identified as 'Babylon', 'the great city' of Revelation 11-18, which holds sway over the evil world system. (Beale, G.K. The Book of Revelation p476).
But what could this reference to a "great mountain, burning with fire" refer to? The first image that comes to mind is that of a volcano.

See the full article at unveilingtheapocalypse.blogspot.com...

The author argues that above two passages in the book of Revelation is based on chapter 51 of the book of Jeremiah, which also appears to describe the same event:

“Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain, declares the Lord, which destroys the whole earth; I will stretch out my hand against you, and roll you down from the crags, and make you a burnt mountain. No stone shall be taken from you for a corner and no stone for a foundation, but you shall be a perpetual waste, declares the Lord." (Jer 51:25-26)

"How Babylon is taken, the praise of the whole earth seized! How Babylon has become a horror among the nations! The sea has come up on Babylon; she is covered with its tumultuous waves." (Jer 51:41-42)

“A voice! A cry from Babylon! The noise of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!
For the LORD is laying Babylon waste and stilling her mighty voice. Their waves roar like many waters; the noise of their voice is raised, for a destroyer has come upon her, upon Babylon..." (Jer 51:54-56)

"When you finish reading this book, tie a stone to it and cast it into the midst of the Euphrates, and say, ‘Thus shall Babylon sink, to rise no more, because of the disaster that I am bringing upon her..." (Jer 51:63-64)

This material is given on a different post in the blog at this link: unveilingtheapocalypse.blogspot.com...

The author argues that these various passages from the bible predict the future collapse of Cumbre Vieja, which some prominent geophysicists believe could cause a large chunk of the island (a portion around the size of the Isle of Man) to collapse into the sea during its next eruption. These scientists believe that this event will generate a mega-tsunami that will be around 50m high when it makes landfall on the east coast of America, destroying everything in its wake.

In 2001, Ward and Day put forward a scientific paper showing how that the entire western flank will eventually give way, possibly even during its next eruption; sending 500 thousand million tonnes of rock crashing into the ocean. Ward and Day's research, which took other examples of this phenomenon into account, suggested that the impact of this "lateral collapse" would generate a colossal wave – dubbed a "mega-tsunami", which could reach a local amplitude of between 650-1500 metres. This wave would then rapidly travel westwards reaching a speed of approximately 720kph. Although it would diminish in size by the time it made landfall on the eastern seaboard of America, it could still be as high as 50 metres (to give a sense of perspective, the statue of liberty is 93 metres tall), devastating everything in its wake up to 25km inland.

unveilingtheapocalypse.blogspot.com...

The blog also quotes some more biblical passages related to this event:

Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. (Psalm 46:2-3)

God came from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah. His splendor covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise. His brightness was like the light; rays flashed from his hand; and there he veiled his power. Before him went pestilence, and plague followed at his heels.
He stood and measured the earth; he looked and shook the nations; then the eternal mountains were scattered; the everlasting hills sank low. His were the everlasting ways. I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction; the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble. Was your wrath against the rivers, O LORD?
Was your anger against the rivers, or your indignation against the sea, when you rode on your horses,
on your chariot of salvation? You stripped the sheath from your bow, calling for many arrows. Selah
You split the earth with rivers. The mountains saw you and writhed; the raging waters swept on; the deep gave forth its voice; it lifted its hands on high...
...You trampled the sea with your horses, the surging of mighty waters.
(Hab 3:3-10; 15)

You can find various other biblical passages related to this event here:
unveilingtheapocalypse.blogspot.com...

The author argues that this event will bring about the total economic collapse of "Babylon", which represents the ruling world power, paving the way for the rise to power of the Antichrist in Europe. He then argues that without the protection offered by its cheif ally, Israel will be invaded by the surrounding Arab nations, leading to the battle of Armageddon or WW3.

That's one possible interpretation of the imagery in Revelation ch8.
But if Revelation is being followed, a lot of other things need to happen first, so I would be reluctant to read a prediction for the near future into it.

Well, you have done your research... good job.

However, I do not believe the scriptures specifically apply to this one event or volcano. In fact, I always saw it as an asteroid that crashes into Earth... John not knowing what an asteroid was might describe it as a mountain burning and falling into the sea.

And would a volcano actually bring world wide destruction? Regional yes...world wide...no, maybe some cooling from ash... and as you stated, the tsunami would only cause damage 25km inland...hardly worldwide. An asteroid on the other hand... large as a mountain... crashing into the ocean...yup, world wide devastation....

the amount of debris/dust/ash thrown into the atmosphere would cause the day to appear as night, the moon light would diffuse and look as blood, the night would be black as pitch, the oceans would be poisoned, and a third of the fishes, and a third of the animals on land, and a third of the people would die immediately.

Then comes sickness, disease, starvation, war over remaining resources, modern computers and weaponry may be useless.. electronic grid dwon, satellites useless...so armies might move by...foot and horse.

Any of this sound familiar?

The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood. (Rev 8:8)

...something like a great mountain.... literally does not necessarily mean a mountain or a volcano because of the word "something". If indeed rev 8:8 was referring to a mountain or volcano there would be no need for the word "something"..... SO, what is the word "something" 'actually' referring to?

Because early man had no words to define certain celestial objects beyond stars, planets, the sun and the moon could rev 8:8 be reffering to something from outer space?

A large comet or asteroid burning up as it entered the atmosphere and plunging into the sea could make sense however why then would the sea turn to blood and not red because if it turned red there would be no need for the word blood...... that is puzzling.....

SO..... could this "something like a great mountain burning with fire" be predicting a huge inter-stellar craft filled with countless beings burning up as it entered our atmosphere and the sea turning to blood in the vicinity where this craft is thrown and broken into pieces thus releasing the mangled and bleeding beings with their blood turning the sea red with blood???

When reading ancient text one needs to keep in mind early mans lack of ability to define in words that which until much later was made known to him.......

Does what I say make sense......maybe just about as much sense as the next person trying to make sense of ancient text.....

I do not know if it is predicted or not. However, it is certain that if part of the volcano collapses into the sea, there will be a mega tsunami heading for the East coast of America. I saw that in a documentary, whose title unfortunately I cannot remember, but it clearly stated that something like this has happened again in the distant past.

I thought that a comet or meteor with a lot of iron could cause the sea to turn red if it landed in the ocean. Lets not forget about the deadly red tide. A natural disaster (like volcano) might create conditions that favor a red tide bloom that spreads to take over a third of the oceans. Just some thoughts I've had on the subject.

The Revelation is not a puzzle that you can figure and then go around saying hey look at me I crackef the code. It is like trying to apply a map of New Jersey when you are driving in California. We are not there yet, so it will make no sense yet. It is sealed up until the time. Christians are to read it and be familiar with it so they will recognizr the events when they begin to unfold.

Agreed. Revelation is presented as God's response to the sufferings of the church, so we need to see a tribulation of the church before looking for other things.

Well if New Babylon really is New York, which I've heard several Revelation scholars say it is, then this would fit in to that theory. Wherever "New Babylon" is it will be completely destroyed and this is one possible scenario. New York is generally chosen as New Babylon due to the United Nations being headquartered there. The UN matches up to so many Revelation predictions it's an easy choice.

As I've just been observing in an "off-topic" thread, the essence of Revelation's Babylon is hostility to the church.
Also it is not the greatest power in the world, but supported by and dependent upon another power labelled "the Beast".
That's the combination to look for.

what if the earth's core open and unleashes all the magma deep hidin within it. Deff sounds like a volcano erupting at a force no one has ever seen before. or probably the force will shoot the mountain in air bringing it back down lol now that was stupid , but yeah deff sounds like a volcano.

Just because it was on BBC it doesn't mean it's true.

The La Palma Tsunami theory was launched in the media without consultation with leading scientists in this field.
The media have been happy to repeat the scaremongering without checking the facts.
The scientific community does not take the Horizon program seriously because they consider it to be largely a work of fiction.
Leading scientists disagree with the conclusions drawn from the original geological and scientific research. Many of the assumptions made by the program have been disproved by other research.

The material you refer to there is from the Canary Island tourist board, which is obviously trying to rebutt the evidence presented by the Benfield Hazard Research centre at UCL to quell any concerns about visiting the islands. Agreed there are some scientists who believe that Cumbre Vieja will collapse gradually into the ocean, but the best research into this subject is that forwarded by Ward, Day et al, who highlight the huge crack across the island that is already visible on the surface. The scientists who argue that the volcano will collapse in smaller stages are obvioiusly conservatives, and don't take into consideration the fact that large scale volcanic collapses happen all the time. For instance the eruption at St Helens was absolutely collosal, and this occured just a few years ago. If this collapse happenned on a coastal area it too would have produced a mega-tsunami (although on a much smaller scale than that is posited to occur at the collapse of Cumbre Vieja). You can see video footage of the collapse of St Helens here:
unveilingtheapocalypse.blogspot.com...

When the El Golfo landslide occured on El Hierro (the volcano in the Canary Islands which is erupting now at the minute) collapsed 15,000 years ago, it produced a mega-tsunami, and there is archaeological evidence that this devastated the coast of the Americas. Large scale volcanic collapses happen all the time, and these scientists are simply pointing out the location where it is most likely next to occur. The fact that is on a coastal area means the effects will be devastating, unlike collaspes at landlocked locations such as St Helens.

The claim of a flank collapse is disputed.

Review of geology and of historic events of LaPalma, does not support claims that the island's western flank is particularly unstable or that the next large volcanic eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano will trigger a massive failure along a detachment fault. There is no seismic data to support that an observed rupture along the crest of the volcano is the surface expression of a major weakness zone along which detachment and major failure can occur in the near future. A summit or flank eruption cannot exert sufficient shear strength to trigger the movement of up to 500 cubic km of material - as postulated.
www.drgeorgepc.com...

Of course, obviously, all of the geologists who dispute Day et al. are "conservative". Including those at Delft.

Some recent TV documentaries have shown the western world being wiped out by the worst tidal wave ever witnessed by mankind, as half of La Palma, one of the Canary Islands, breaks away to disappear into the sea. However, a research group at TU Delft thinks the documentaries are overlooking a crucial fact. “The island is just very well constructed.”
home.tudelft.nl...

There is no evidence of a mega-tsunami resulting from the El Golfo collapse.
Slope failures on the flanks of the western Canary Islands

No evidence for tsunamis associated with known landslides has been discovered to date
geomar.geo.ub.es...

The claimed evidence in the Americas (McGuire) is not the result of tsunami.

In the Bahamas, the SW–NE orientation of the chevron ridges and runup deposits, and the restricted wave access to the megaboulder deposits of northern Eleuthera (Hearty, 1997) favor formation from long-period waves generated from a distant northeastern source. The orientation of these features at the Bahamas and Bermuda points to a very large and extremely energetic and weather systems in the North Atlantic Ocean at this critical time of abrupt climate change.

John knew exactly what it was and what the visions meant, but he was to hide the truth through images and a form of parabolic phrases, to seal the prophecy till the end of days! It is an asteroid impact and the verses in Revelation 8:0-9, 9:0-11 and 12:0-17, are all the same meaning and are interpreted differently.
From where the angel of the Lord throws the censer to the earth, to the great mountain all ablaze thrown into the sea, and the Red Dragon Satan and all his demons loose there place in heaven forever!

What is actually going to result from this impact will be floods and earthquakes and volcanic eruptions everywhere, simultaneously! When the volcanoes begin to open and erupt, that is where the Abyss is opened and the entire sky will be filled with plumes of smoke and ash everywhere on the entire face of the world, that the sky will also be darkened because of this event and of thee effect of the smoke!

That is correct and exactly what is going to happen. While many people do not want to understand this truth, and the false prophets are already advancing spreading lies, the people are the ones who are going to suffer the consequences, but they are very ignorant from the truth and Satan is already deceiving them by sending out false prophets, who are selling lies and getting rich off it!

Any of this sound familiar?

The governments are will aware of this danger, that is why they are preparing in advance, storing food and water inside of mountains, bunkers and underground structures!
After all these things had happened to the world, many cities will be destroyed and in total chaos and that's when the troops move in to create Marshal Law and a Genocide for all the people in the world, and each country will invade it's own, to supposedly control the people and force them into camps and then a totalitarian world, where the government knows no humanitarian law, but to create it's own laws on the people by force!!
"Brought To You By The New World Order!"
Keep on listening to all this fake political Bull$#!t that your governments are telling you, and don't forget to vote for these B@$terd$ who are deciding your fate and making decisions for your lives!
I come with the truth but you do not want it, because it makes you mad and you think to yourselves that your country would never do such a thing to it's people like this!
And Woe to all of you False Prophets, Preachers and Pastors of Satan, you great deceivers, that sell your own soul's to the evil one, just to live luxuriously for awhile, but I shall tell you the truth, you will spend eternity in Hell for lying and deceiving these people, this I Declare in the name of the Lord of Spirits whom lives Forever and ever, "Amen!"
Blessed are all of you that takes to account what I have written here, for salvation is yours through the mercy and grace of our Lord Jesus Chris, "Amen!"

Day and Ward responded to the articles you cite there, at the following site: es.ucsc.edu...
Although there are scientists who argue against the effects of this collapse (since there are competing theories in every discipline), the threat is still very real. In the above article Ward and Day, along with Bill McGuire argue that this collapse could potentially have even greater devastating effects than the model they forwarded for the Horizon programme. Their mega-tsunami hypothesis is based on years of scientific research, and can't be brushed aside with a few academic papers arguing a different position. Volcano collapses have occured throughout history, and have definitely produced mega-tsunamis - this is undisputed. Just because it hasn't happened in recorded history or been observed by scientists doesn't mean to say that it won't happen in the future.

I've always felt that Revelation speaks of the eruption of a super volcano. The part about a great earthquake, the Sun becoming dark, the moon turning blood red, the sky rolling up like a scroll, and stars falling like leaves from a fig tree sounds an awful lot like a volcanic eruption to me. Whereas the talk about 1/3 of the day not giving light 1/3 of life being destroyed, 1/3 of the grass being burned and that sort of stuff sounds something like either a cloud from the volcano lingering over 1/3 of the world, or something like an asteroid or comet hitting 1/3 of the world. My only worry is that if you look at a globe, and you wanted to pick out a region that could be hit and have 1/3 of all life on the planet die and where 1/3 of the world was permanently darkened, you would be looking at the western hemisphere - a perfect 1/3.
