Feed the kids more crap, they'll grow up big and sick and we'll make a fortune off them.

This makes me sick. It's sad that there are people who literally are killing future generations for a paycheck. What's worse is that Congress, voted in by us, to represent our interest...let the win. It's like a cop watching a theft and turning his head away...disgusting.

OK fine congress, you want children to eat crap food.... I'm cool with that... but only if you eat the same.

If its good enough for our GROWING and DEVELOPING children, it should be good enough for all you old bastards as well. So stock the congressional cafeteria with frozen food breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Then I would have no beef with your decision.

(I couldn't help myself with that last pun)

This really does my goat Jamie Oliver went to one town and tried to change what the kids eat because it is just crap nothing nutritional what so ever. He sees the kids are lacking and for the obesity problem to be fixed over there schools and parents need to lead by example. Jamie Oliver had a healthier program for the same price as the one in place kids were enjoying his food he made a change then the education board or what ever board is in charge of food have some of the dumbest rules and had all this frozen food surplus and Jamie Oliver's change was stopped. Have a look at the series that Jamie did should be on you tube or go to ten.com.au which may have the episodes on there still.

They'd eat somewhere else... and have us pay for it anyway.

I eat at my kids school every once in awhile.. Its disgusting and bland.. And if the kid doesnt eat their apple (or other fruit in skin), it goes into a basket, to be served again. Now if they wash it, I dont see a problem, but idk if they do, lol. But at least they give EVERY child free breakfast and lunch, regardless of financial status.

The food looks so gross, and this is their healthy food, but it does seem healthy with the exception of the meats. Im sure its fake. But they offer alternatives, like a huge salad and such.

So in my school district at least, i'm 75/25.. 75 they are going in the right direction

For some reason, local boards of education are powerful agencies. I am sure this has to do much more with budget for the schools.

You can have healthy frozen foods.

I worked for the school system for almost ten years, the food is very generic and cheap, the burgers are not real meat but soy, (we know that the soy for food production is GMO in the US unless you buy organic, I will not doubt that most of the food is GMO), once a week they will serve an appealing meal, It was always food on the side for the teachers for a low fee and it was much better than the crap they gave the children.

I remember that when I went to school back in the 60s and 70s food was fresh cook in the cafeteria from the wee hours of the morning and delicious.

No, it was not processed but fresh, this was back home In PR, things changed a lot after the 80s.

Congress should push back on school lunches altogether and forever. It's the parents, the local community, counties, and state that should address school lunches, not Federal Government. This is why it's so screwed up in the first place.

I remember this story a few months ago. Power and control at its finest.

Chicago school bans homemade lunches...

Short-term thinking is ruining this nation.

Congress needs to cut trillions out of the budget.

They also need to fund health care.

Encouraging obesity and health problems is counterproductive to both tasks.

Less emotion and more logic is needed to save this planet.

of course they would... but screw them... we should force 'em!!

I used to work as a school teacher and I can personally testify to how awful the food is. The school I worked in was ranked the 3rd most dangerous in all of PA, Middle of North Philly. Even though we had a grant for $2.4 Million, the food they were given was terrible. And then half way through the year, they stopped serving hot food all together.

No exageration, one time, my favorite student (yes teachers do have favorites) came to my room to have lunch with me. He offered me half his sandwhich... I took 2 bites and threw up.

Hmm yes the food in PA schools.. is awful.

I don't think my dog would eat it.

I don't think I'd let him either.. now that I think about it.

Peace

I suggest that if you have kids, pack them lunch. It's very unfortunate however, that a lot of families can't do that, and rely on the schools to provide their kids lunch.

The problem here in the south with the school lunches is that with the high poverty and unemployment one meal is what many of the young students have in a day, that happens to be the lunch at school

This is one of the sad issues affecting many states with poverty this days.
