A white coach telling a black student that he's going to be on welfare one day is pure racism. There's no way to weasel out of that fact. The racist coach is guilty as charged IMHO.

Perhaps you're much younger than I am, my friend.
In my day, there was a definite degradation assumed when relating welfare and minorities. It wasn't right, but that's how it was. I hope times have changed, but I'm afraid they haven't based on this story.
The media and society must agree that the coach was way out of line by saying this to a student - in particular, a minority student. After all, the story made the headlines and the coach is being sued for racist harassment.
And lets be honest here... do you really think the white coach would have said that to a white student? Hardly!

So then only blacks are on welfare, and it is something that all black people should be ashamed of. Got it.
Perhaps the racists are the ones who stereotype black people are "welfare recipients". The coach is only stereotyping people who make poor grades as welfare recipients THAT is truth, not racism.
