a huge number of americans rely on medicine for survival. modern cars will not function since it will wipe out all on board computers. with no way to transport medicine and produce medicine across the country those people will die. People in the hospital on support will die. People on respirator respirators will die. it least we could all look forward to know more frankenstein mcdonald's
. anyways, I could go on all day but what's the point. it doesn't hurt to keep a bunch of can goods in the basement friends

killer and wiping out of all electronics goes hand in hand my friend. with no way to refrigerate foods no way to utilize reliable transportation andy extreme riots looting and killing tnat will be going on fighting for the last bit of food... it would likely be the end for about 80 percent of us. Think about it all diabetics will die insulin needs to be refrigerated. almost everyone will have no idea how to get food besides the grocery store which will not exist. martial law will be put into effect. modern farms rely on modern technology and without they will have no idea how to produce.

Well then it seems when TSHTF you will be one of the weak feeble ones to go first huh? Oh no MY IPAD!!!!!!!!!!
My microwave!!!!!!! you better prepare better my friend

You might die without electronics...lol

I think people saying that a solor flare will do the earth in arn't exactly saying the solar flare itself will inflict the damage, but rather that the ensuing chaos from ecenomic, and social collapse due to the sudden worldwide grid shutdown. Not to mention that an emp will render any peice of electrical equipment completely useless. Also im pretty suspicious of NASA nowadays so it's hard for me to take what they say as absoloute truth.

regaurdless of my opinions though, just because the peak is not going to happen until after when it is said that calander ends, doesn't mean that it can't have a big enough CME before that time, to cause some serious damage. Either side of the argument you look at, it's all speculation

I refuse respond to your comments you have made out of contempt. even though you think you are a on a higher plane then I am,as well as your ideas, I refuse to lower myself to a level were I respond in contempt. *sigh*
what ever happened to intelligent debate?

Everyone knows that any ATS member with an opinion is far more smarterish than NASA goons and their shills. Nutjobs freaked out about Elenin, and they were... oh wait wrong. Nutjobs freaked out about YU55 and they were... oh wait wrong.

You tell me?
If I agree that it WOULD be devastating if the grid was wiped out, it was not ever the point of debate in the op!!!! How can you debate someone that agrees with you in the first place. I suggested that you read the op again, and re-evaluate what you are arguing.

ON November 4th 2003, the Sun produced a staggering set of storms and flares that were rated at an X 28, that was the largest storm ever recorded. I think that if this storm had hit us directly, we may not be having this conversation in quite the way we are now, however, we lived through it and we will live through anything that the Sun has to send our way. The United States and Great Britain are looking into the possibility( given enough advance warning) of shutting down the electrical grids in order to save them should a huge storm come barreling towards us. If done this way the transformers will not burn up and have to be replaced. I have looked for the article I have read about this and I am sorry, I cannot find it. Maybe someone else can.

The 2003 solar flare was amazing, I watched the aurora in the catskills, simply beautiful BUT it was not the biggest flare ever recorded. That was the Carrington event in the mid 1800's. Google it, great story.

Can you please stop with the misinformation.

Car computers will not be affected.

Solar storms create a different type of EMP, called E3 or a geomagnetically induced current. Google it and learn what will actually be affected.

Wow. I am new here but I have the feeling you guys talk about solar flares often?
How fun.

OP- I understand your point, there are no killer solar flares, just CME, EMP's that'll make life difficult. EMP's can come from other sources guys, not just solar flare's with earth projected CMEs. Let's start a thread on that.

You would be hard-pressed to find anyone, even on ATS, who thinks that's what's going to happen. Ya the earth will still be here, like it has for billions years. That's great and all but I'm more concerned with how many of us survive such an event and the ones that would surely follow. Thanks NASA for clearing that one up for us. I think you're trolling. I think you know full well what the true threat of such solar events are.

Interesting that this proclamation is treated as fact. If I recall correctly, the weather folks, whoever they are, have predicted a devastating cycle of Hurricanes every year since Katrina. I think the kids say "fail" in this case, yet every year when these overlords of guesswork speak we worship them just like when NASA speaks.

So NASA, who doesn't seem to make any claims that it can predict Solar Activity in a weekly or monthly cycle is "damn spot on" when it comes to long term predictions of Solar Activity? They made no prediction of the current day's Solar Activity on this date last year, but today's prediction of next year is solid enough to gamble on.

They claim the Sun is a ball of burning gas, which seems that something simply burning would not have very predictable patterns; 2 week cycles, 28 day cycles, 11 year cycles and so on. So how is it that a giant hot flame behaves like a perfectly intelligent organism with some patterns predictable, and others seemingly random to NASA people? And why can NASA do so well at drawing the line at future random-flame-throwing, but can't seem to predict the same activity on a weekly basis?

They are either guessing? Or, they know far more then the let on, and continue some foolish charade of acting like they are all knowing about the same high school facts that seem to be contradicted by the activity itself.
