I guess we can lay off the Doomsday Solar Flare threads at least for a few more years. After all, we do have a lot bigger fish to fry now anyways. Like the article states, weve never seemed to be affected before by these CME's were still here right? Just now scientists are learning more with better equipment. IMO these have always been a way of the solar system, so we have nothing to fear
Again, IMO.
www.space.com...
From the article:he Mayans' "long-count" calendar is set to expire on Dec. 21, 2012, marking the end of a 5,126-year epoch. This factoid has inspired some folks to start girding up for the coming apocalypse — and to start predicting what may bring it about.

One popular theory is that a huge solar flare could do the Earth in. Some fearmongers have pointed out that the sun's activity is ramping up, implying that a killer outburst could be coming next year. [Worst Solar Storms in History]

The sun is indeed building up toward the peak of its 11-year activity cycle. But that peak is expected to come in 2013 or 2014, not 2012, researchers said. Also, countless solar maxima have come and gone over the years, and we — and the Earth — are still here.

When, in the last several decades, have we relied so much on technology?

We know solar flares are frequently happening, and always have, although I'd dread to think what would happen if one erupted which was big enough to wipe out communications. It's the sun, it's massive, it's hot, it's unpredictable.

Oh no, just when I was thinking finally after Y2k, 2011, and 2012 are over we can get away from this doomsday stuff, you go and throw out another doomsday date!
Am I the only one noticing a pattern here?

Im pretty sure I and the article said NO KILLER SOLAR FLARES. I Dont believe it had anything to do with technology did it?

You said: IMO these have always been a way of the solar system, so we have nothing to fear...

It has always been the way of the solar system, yes, but did we have tech that we do now in ancient times? Even 1800's? No. It is proven that solar storms can knock out communication, and I am also saying you cannot predict very accurately on what the sun is going to produce next. NASA is not all knowing, nobody knows exactly how the sun will react tomorrow with precision, you should know this.

Let me ask you this and its very very important you're honest about it....would NASA tells us if their was?

I think we all know the answer and there you have it. Keep guessing folks, anything is possible.

I love when people get caught acting snooty to a post and get called out on it. Now your just grasping for branches on your way down the tree. OBVIOUSLY One cannot predict what the sun will do, but I will put several billion years of it NOT destroying earth against anything happening soon
Again, just take your defeat and please stay on topic, thanx

Well dont they have a deal with the government where they cannot reveal any potentialy damaging info anyhow? Your argument makes ZERO sense. It has nothing to do with the article or the op. That could be said about anything.

I think we treat time to quickly on Earth..
Who's to say there aren't events that happen say every million years and we're now due?

To talk in 11 year cycles or even 1000 year cycles is a little lame when considering the universe..

are you kidding you are actually saying its not possible for the sun to to produce an x class that will wipe out electronics? The sun produce an x class last week that narrowlymissed us I'm not for fear mongering don't say it's not possible because to say it's not is just ignorant. the x 1.9 produce last week was so strong that even though it miss earth, it actually disrupted radio communications

Uh, we are safe, thanks to NASA
) . I guess NASA is going way too far by stating we are safe. And yes, monster flares did happen, just before the start of our electricity civilisation. Solar flares are old, however of total dependency on electronics is quite new.. and this is the main problem!

I have to agree; I never brought in to killer solar flares but solar flares enough to disrupt our power grid is always likely and not impossible.

I DID NOT SAY THAT!!!!! I said it could not KILL US. READ the post.

If People would read the OP. This thread has nothing to do with a solar flare wiping out electronic grids. IT IS HOWEVER about NASA saying that there are no KILLER sloar flares that will hit earth. AGAIN, NO KILLER FLARES. KILLER!!!!!!!! Nothing abut your ipads!!!!!

by the way op that's not what nasa said. Nasa said that it's impossible for the sun to produce enough energy to completely destroy the earth. of course it's not possible for the sun to do that with a flare. it's not the complete destruction of the earth everybody's curious about. It's the e m p style complete wiping out of all electronics not just communication. it seems that you don't quite grasp the concept of different classes of flares. bo o post

It makes zero sense to say that NASA wouldnt tell you the truth? Do you happen to know the origins of NASA? Do you know about the 72 hour rule? lol

Come on brother..

Correct and again....they wouldn't tell you anyway. You aren't worthy. Just ask them.

killer and wiping out of all electronics goes hand in hand my friend. with no way to refrigerate foods no way to utilize reliable transportation andy extreme riots looting and killing tnat will be going on fighting for the last bit of food... it would likely be the end for about 80 percent of us. Think about it all diabetics will die insulin needs to be refrigerated. almost everyone will have no idea how to get food besides the grocery store which will not exist. martial law will be put into effect. modern farms rely on modern technology and without they will have no idea how to produce.

Well im sorry I didnt post a thread that YOU were intrested in. Move along then instead of running your mouth about something you know nothing about. I am quite aware of the different classes of flares however that is not even what this thread is about. I suggest you start with a reading comprehension class then work your way up to sites like this
And how old are you? "Bo o post
" Again, next time I advise clicking on a thread that intrests you

There are other ways of refridgerating without the use of electricity. Africans have been doing it since the beginning of time using sand and clay pots placed in to the ground that does keep food cool for up to a week. There's a Youtube video to show you how it's done.
