The 99% don't want to catch what these 1% loafers are incubating, it's a clear losing situation for OWS which forever eradicates their claim to side with the majority.
edit on 13-11-2011 by TinfoilTP because: (no reason given)
Obviously, the movement's successes have made it a target for those who prefer the status quo. We acknowledge that the Occupy Portland encampment is not without problems. That said, it would be wrong to suggest that the homelessness, mental illness, substance abuse and violence so often highlighted by the corporate media and certain public officials was created by the encampment. Putting the many hardships associated with poverty on public display should be a step towards addressing them, not an excuse for political repression.

Now they are coming down with deadly contageous diseases that are a threat to the entire human population but they are too self important to care for any consequences, denial is the order of the day.

Again... you just don't seem to get it.
OWS is a large group of people, in close-quarters, in conditions straining to their immune systems.
A highly contagious, and notoriously lethal pathogen has been detected in a nearby homeless shelter used to organize the OWS movement, not to mention the OWS movement has regular interaction with the OWS crowd.
One of the members seems to believe he is safe (and seems to have an attitude as though he represents the whole - which I hope not to be the case) - because he has been tested. The problem is that the test does not verify a lack of exposure or infection, at this point. It can't.
Tuberculosis has an equal opportunity policy. A large group of people is a large group of people - whether you are at a fancy ballroom dance among wealthy people or gathering around a burning barrel for warmth. It doesn't care if you are rallying to support Hitler or rallying to denounce a dictator.
It really doesn't care who started what. It's an organism. It seeks resources to survive and reproduce, and will take what it can get - and thrive where it is easy to get it.
Is he not holding OWS responsible for the two alledged TB cases, he is calling them a dirty filthy horde as a reaction to this news.
So yes, in relation to the OP, it is relevant that the patients probably were infected before OWS came there.
Your concerns for the crowd are very noble, but don´t tell me that I don´t get it, while I´m actually adressing the OP and the article wich clearly tries to blame this on OWS.
So what are you trying to say. that it´s not OWS´fault, but that they should go home now, because of this ``severe outbreak`` of two alledged sick people?
Some would call you a fearmonger, in a different situation.
And that has... what... to do with what I've said?
Although these things can happen naturally, I really question these Occupy outbreaks. What next? Cholera?
......
It really shouldn't come as a surprise. Part of the reason we go through so many vaccinations and rounds of antibiotics our first week of boot camp is because you have hundreds of different people from different parts of the continent (and a few from other parts of the world) interacting in close quarters - living, sleeping, and eating together. We are also subjected to large amounts of stress that can adversely affect our immune system's ability to respond to new and unfamiliar strains of bacteria and viruses.
Of course, it could be asked whether or not they would be there were OWS not involved. Again - simply poking holes.
What I am saying is that you have a TB outbreak in an area where there is a concentrated effort to mass people into that area. Testing for infection cannot be done for up to three months after infection (and be reliable) - which means that you are dealing with a three month lag between infection and tests able to determine whether or not the disease has been communicated.
And if people participating in the OWS movement begin coming down sick with TB - the local organizers and leaders are on the line for manslaughter, criminal negligence, and a host of other crimes for ignoring obvious warning signs and failing to make an effort to address those issues.

You know what ....my opinion is...TPTB....may have created this TB rumor in Atlanta...in order to have a (supposed) valid reason to shut it down.
You know they did. Ows has just spread to my state. I saw in Little Rock, the capitol of Arkansas that the OWS are setting up shop at the old VA building thats is just being used as a storage facility for the new VA building but should be turned into a homeless shelter instead of going to waste. All those rooms and kitchen facilities are now getting put to use after being wasted for 25 years. The old hospital is in surprisingly good condition.
