Today, we had a Veteran's Day Parade down town.

> The Parade began with 300 motorcycles from the Patriot Guard in full regalia with giant flags riding past the crowd, and then lining both sides of the end of the parade route with their flags.

> Next, Buglers from the FSU marching band came out at every other street corner down the parade route, and at 11:11 they played TAPS. It was extremely moving! Then, the woman next to me spoke, and she explained that Blue Stars mean a mother has someone serving overseas, and Gold Stars mean they have lost one in the military. She had a Blue Star for her 1 Marine. He had served 2 tours and 9 years and was coming home today. He was in the parade.

There are many stories as to the origin of the history of TAPS, but I like this one the best.

During the night, Captain Elli heard the moans of a soldier who lay severely wounded on the field. Not knowing if it was a Union or Confederate soldier, the Captain decided to risk his life and bring the stricken man back for medical attention. Crawling on his stomach through the gunfire, the Captain reached the stricken soldier and began pulling him toward his encampment...When the Captain finally reached his own lines, he discovered it was actually a Confederate soldier, but the soldier was dead.

The Captain lit a lantern and suddenly caught his breath and went numb with shock. In the dim light, he saw the face of the soldier. It was his own son. The boy had been studying music in the South when the war broke out.. Without telling his father, the boy enlisted in the Confederate Army.

The following morning, heartbroken, the father asked permission of his superiors to give his son a full military burial, despite his enemy status. His request was only partially granted.

The Captain had asked if he could have a group of Army band members play a funeral dirge for his son at the funeral.

The request was turned down since the soldier was a Confederate.

But, out of respect for the father, they did say they could give him only one musician.

The Captain chose a bugler. He asked the bugler to play a series of musical notes he had found on a piece of paper in the pocket of the dead youth's uniform.

This wish was granted.

The haunting melody, we now know as 'Taps' used at military funerals was born.
The words are:

Day is done.
Gone the sun.
From the lakes
From the hills.
From the sky.
All is well.
Safely rest.
God is nigh.

Fading light.
Dims the sight.
And a star.
Gems the sky.
Gleaming bright.
From afar.
Drawing nigh.
Falls the night.

Thanks and praise.

I unfortunately had the most intensely boring day of my life. Today has dragged on forever.

Nothing particularly unusual happened to me today.

I did majorly over sleep though, because of a generic sleeping pill I took last night. That didn't effect much, because I am an online student. I didn't have any assignments due today, so I just read some lectures, and cruised the discussion boards.

Around 3pm, AZ time, I went over to Coffee Cartel for a coffee. They have heroin-like-coffee there, so strong. It's imported from all over the world! Good stuff!

Got a coffee, and then smoked my second cigarette of the day.

Then I came home and read some more lectures for my Holocaust class.

Got depressed about the Holocaust.

Did something to get my mind off of The Final Solution.

Took care of my virtual city. THEN----came on to ATS!

I need some food actually...

I will remember 11 11 11 as the day I got mugged in a way.

I had really hoped today would be a great day. I got some decorating done, cleaned the house a little, planned my Thanksgiving spread....






And then I bent my pinky finger back way farther than it should have gone and sprained that side of my hand.

I suppose it could have been the world telling me to slow down, but geez... they could have picked a less painful way.

I'm a big skeptic too, but I read your thread when you started it, and it sounds legit to me. I've also had some intense experiences that I can't explain, and even though I am skeptical of all the silly stories on the internet, I have always believed your particular story.

I think, you need to really look deep and find out what it's time for? Good Luck!!

There is actually alot going on in my life right now.. i have had an unusual month since that thread.. I dont really know what to think..

and this day is significant to alot of people.. i get the feeling this is it though, now is the time for me to take note..

My wife and I discussed making a Ham for Thanksgiving rather than Turkey, but in the end we ended up running out to the Local Wallyworld and bought a Turkey anyway. Ended up cleaning out freezer and completely forgot that it was 11/11/11 until I realized it. then I actually realized it wasn't 11/11/11 at all. It was 11/11/2011

Where did that 20 come from? Well now; It was really convenient to remove that 20 and make it look like something it was not.
I would have been concerned if it had really been 11/11/11, but that would have been 2000 years ago and there were no computers then. Today is not 11/11/11 it is 11/11/2011 and that 20 was removed so someone could come up with yet another conspiracy.
I am sure they will come up with yet another very soon.

You were mugged. Also, in case you both didn't notice. Misterlondon posted his thread in October of 2010, and his experience was 10 years before that. So 11 years ago he receives a sign, that he will know what to do when he sees this emblem. 11 years later, on 11-11-11 he sees the symbol, from a guy that got mugged earlier that day.

Surely there is something between ya'll that you can figure out?

After reading this thread, it appears that:

Some people had great days!

Some people had really crappy days!

And others just had regular boring days.

Yep, this day must truly be special. That's so unusual for everyone to have either a good, bad, or regular day.

For those that think this day means anything, and that you have "found" something. What you really found is the power of your own mind. You thought today was going to actually mean something, so it did.

My day was better than usual, but that's only because it's a FRIDAY and PAYDAY!! That was going to happen anyway regardless of the whole date thing, so I won't attribute it to that. Otherwise, the traffic royally sucked like it always does, was bored at work, aaaaaaand that's about it.

Regular day, maybe I would have felt something special if I psyched myself out about the date.
