I switched from pb & j to super fruit spreads and natural almond butter a few years back. It's more expensive, but still cheaper than fast-food and a lot better for you.

Each 500 calorie sandwich is proly $1.50 or so. That's really not too bad.

Maybe peanut butter will cost more than almond butter soon enough?!

Peanut butter prices may soon rise in Canada

Picard’s farm and company — Picard’s Peanuts — also imports peanuts from the U.S. because they aren’t able to grow enough to meet its needs for peanuts to use in products such as specialty seasoned peanuts, snacks and sweet treats, including peanut brittle and homemade ice cream.

He’s expecting to pay 200 to 250 per cent more this season for raw stock peanuts himself. That’s over a $1 a pound increase in raw stock, he explained.

So if you’re a consumer looking to buy a 500 gram jar of peanut butter you’re looking at an increase in the neighbourhood of about a $1.00 to a $1.50, Picard forecasts.

Peanut butter prices poised to soar this week

“The J.M. Smucker Company is the largest peanut butter manufacturer, and it announced that it was increasing its peanut butter prices,” Leslie Wagner, executive director of the Southern Peanut Growers, said during a telephone interview.

The J.M. Smucker Company, which produces Jif peanut butter, recently announced a 30 percent wholesale price increase beginning this month, according to a recent article by The Associated Press.

What does the above press releases tells you?

1. Market manipulation by greedy cartels and monopolies' practices by the few.

2. There is a demand for nuts in Canada.

3. Open up the industry fairly, as competitive Capitalism dictates, to new entrants and entreprenuer farmers, and needs will be met for staples as well as create employment.

Will no.3) happen? I doubt so, because today, if anyone has $100,000 to start a farm with seeds, labour and machinaries, they would rather dump it on the casino stock market to be spared the hard work, thanks to the banksters with their new financial products that encourages gambling than real manufacturing to gain wealth, sucking all investment capital.

And being the 'house' of this casino stock market, the banksters along with their cronies wins every round as there are fools aplenty.

That's why OWS had to happen, and the banksters to be stopped. If not, it will only doom mankind. Humanity supports wealth generation, capitalism, market economies, BUT NOT unbraidled, unchecked, unconscionable greed!

As globalization gains momentum, I'd expect indefinite price hikes for all food for now on.

Is $2.00 for a homemade sandwich OK? What about $3?

We've been buying off brand for the last almost 3 years and we've gotten to where we actually like it more than the name brand.

I have been stocking up food since last March. Food prices have been getting ridiculous, and that includes peanut butter. I have been stocking up on peanut butter because my husband is addicted to it.

Now they say pecans are going up. I have bags of pecans in my freezer, because my 86 year old mother-in-law collects the pecans that fall from the neighbor's tree and takes them to a local place that hulls them. It's one of the perks of living in Texas, there are old, highly producing pecan trees in every neighborhood and woodsy area. The same size bag goes for over $9 at the grocery store.

All food is going up, but I expected it based on the commodities prices at the beginning of the year. Commodity prices usually look 6 months in advance, so I bought a bunch of coffee, cocoa, sugar, tea, flour, etc. I would rather have a bunch of extra food, than to not have enough. Our infrastructure in this country is a bit fragile, and it wouldn't take much to interrupt the supply chain, causing chaos and panic at the stores.

Be smart, and buy a few extra things every time you shop, before it becomes too expensive to buy, or impossible to get.

And it's not just food that is sky rocketing.
I switched to disposable razor's earlier this year because the cost of replacement blades was ridiculous. I bought a bag of 10 for $4.99. Last Sunday I went and had to get more. Now they are $7.49 for the exact same razors! WTF!??!!?!? I also noticed the price of chicken has gone through the roof as well. Last weekends chicken strips were about $7.99/lbs. Two weeks ago they were $4.99/lbs.

Headaches, tummy troubles, crankiness and even psychosis may occur...
These symptoms describe a large percentage of ATS members, including
me!
It looks like I won't be making peanut butter fudge this holiday season.
Any members that I have offered "bribes" of homebaked cookies, peanut
butter cookies will no longer be available for bribery purposes.Chocolate
chip, oatmeal and sugar cookies are still available upon requests.

We bought 8 large jars when we heard the news/rumor. 8. Oh my, looks like a good investment though.

Now Pecans?! Pecan Pie worth it's weight in gold!

Somebody is trying to starve all of us Southerners out of existence.

That's good. Keep eating soy and pumping destructive estrogens into your body.

Sure. I cut out a drink or two of booze at the bar each week and the problem is solved.

I'm not insecure about food prices.

There has been a peanut crop failure here in the US.

Here is a LINK to an article that explains it.

It is not inflation. It is due to a crop shortage.

Remember to do the research!

I am a low carb diet, and have been for awhile. Since i can't have sweets (other than Atkins bars and other baked desserts with flax), i generally rely on peanut butter. If you get the "natural" kind, the net carbs is only 4 per 2 tablespoon.

It is a great, low carb snack. And since i have an addiction to Reese's, it fills my need for "sweets".

dont stock up thats what they want you to do... just stop eating peanuts until the prices fall again... You cant inflate items if you don't let them do it...

If you want peanuts buy them direct like he does and make your own peanut butter its very easy and way more healthy you can also make flavored peanuts yourself its not hard and it takes much better without all the extra bad crap they put in and you can customize the taste to your liking..

I'm not surprised that we have had peanut crop failure. Something has chnaged in peanuts and incidents of adult peanut allergy are becoming more and more common. Unfortunatly I am one of the victims of this allergy. On the hand I won't be paying high prices for peanut butter.

Occupy Mr. Peanut!

Actually, roasted peanuts give me horrible migraines, so I'm not too concerned about this. Unfortunately, because the world agricultural markets are so interconnected, this will probably drive prices up on my Almond Joy bars.

Let fools pay more for peanut products.

If they want to eat Cesium and other Fallout products in those peanut products....go at it.

Between the Fallout from Fukushima....

....US Nuclear plants selling radioactive waste products as 'fertilizer'.....

....Cargill selling those radioactive phosphates they mine out of Florida....as fertilizer....

Ummmm....Yummy! Fools.
