Russia Rules Out New Iran Sanctions Over Nuclear Report

www.bbc.co.uk

Russia has ruled out supporting fresh sanctions against Iran, despite a UN report that says Tehran may be trying to develop nuclear weapons.

Britain, France and the US all said they would pursue new sanctions against Iran in the wake of the IAEA report.

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said the report showed the need for the world to stop Iran developing nuclear weapons.

The US and its allies suspect Iran of trying to develop a nuclear bomb, which Tehran denies.

The Iranian government insists that its nuclear programme is for peaceful means.

As predicted by many members, Russia is taking an adamant stance against the US/UK/Israeli suggested sanctions on Iran and even go so far as to say the proposed sanctions will be seen by the international community as an "instrument for regime change in Iran".

The following quote from Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made me smile;

"We will not build two bombs in the face of your 20,000. We will develop something that you cannot respond to, which is ethics, humanity, solidarity and justice.

He also added;

"You should know that no enemy of the Iranian people has ever tasted victory."

That part did not make me smile as the fire requires no fuel in the current situation, but it did reinforce the image of the staunch, unwavering character that Ahmadinejad is.

There's a fair bit of meat on the bone in this article and includes a statement issued on the behalf of Baroness Catherine Ashton (EU foreign policy chief) who (unbeknown to me previously) represents six world powers; the UK, China, France, Germany, Russia and the US - in stalled negotiations with Iran over its uranium enrichment programme.

Interesting days, plenty more quotable points from this article.

"You should know that no enemy of the Iranian people has ever tasted victory."

Oh really? Ever heard of the Greeks? And Sparta? And Athens?

The Mongols also kicked your butt. Twice.

Also lost territory to Russia in the 19th century... etc...

Sorry Ahmadinejad, wrong again.

As for Russia objecting new sanctions against Iran... for Israel and the west, no new sanctions = strike unavailable... and it'll be done OUTSIDE of the UN since Russia and China will block it for sure.

the greeks are a former shell of what they once were. sparta has been extinct for thousands of years. the mongols are still riding horses to get around.

and russia barely lasted half a century as a super power.

What does any of that have to do with his quote? They LOST at one point or another.

Hell, every country on earth is a shell militarily of what they once were.

On topic:

The Russians are finally stretching those under-used muscles again. Its good to see that somebody is calling BS on the IAEA report....

Im pretty sure the Allies invaded Iran in 1941 and created a puppet government, for oil and to reinforce the soviets during barbarossa...

en.wikipedia.org...

And that was the second time, cant recall the first at the moment.

Needless to say, any unstable government having even 1 weapon isnt good. Not to say that Israel or the US are "stable" by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm not sure how people are so easily fooled by the garbage coming from our gov and Israel after it was clear that the Iraq war was based off of lies.

I saw this earlier today too.

Here is something else they had to say.

UN’s Iran Report May Contain ‘Political Dishonesty,’ Russia Says

Political dishonesty equals outright lies. But what else would you expect with Obama the Peace Prize winner and Netanyahu the liar influencing these decisions for their handlers.

Since when does Russia have the moral imperative? lol

Seems like either side of the story could be bogus. No way of knowing at the moment

Why would Russia's claims be bogus when part of the damaging claims against Iran are about a Russian scientist from 10 years ago. Even Russia says this. Mahmoud challenged the IAEA to debate the report and no one has gotten back to him. Now Russia is coming out and debunking the report. Simple as that.

And no, I'm not saying Russia are perfect or trustworthy. I'm just saying they are more trustworthy than the modern day US or Israel by a long shot.

Aye. If recent history has taught me anything it is; to place more trust in those whom accusations are being made against as more often than not, they have nothing to gain from sinister accusations against themselves.

God damn it humanity! When will this crap end?

Never.

at least the Russians are still sounding sane, that's a ray of hope.

if the gods make mad those they are planing to destroy, the people who want this war have the attention of the gods.

will Israel invade Lebanon to stop the rockets?
will they reoccupy Gaza.

how will the western economies deal with 5 $+ per gallon of gas?

a war tends to have a life of it's own, this one could get out of control.

another unnecessary disaster from our dysfunctional leadership.

By all means, don't let anything get in the way of unleashing hell on Earth....

I pity the fools who believe it can be controlled, limited or stopped this time.

No to sanctions, more likely Israel does something stupid, and the USA will have no choice.

I think you might want to take another look at the ol' history books.

Either way, good on Russia. It's good to know that someone in the global community is still using their brain.
