The REAL conspiracy is this...

The drug companies are behind the doomsday movement... so they can sell valium and other anti depressants

The really kewl thing is that the doomers will continue to cry wolf until Aphophis arrives in 2029... by then no one will pay attention. We will just forget about it as it starts to enter the atmosphere... then will come that "Holy Crap" moment and we can say "Dang they were right!"

I wonder if the ISS can dodge this one

I understand you feel silly, but this thread is just making it worse. Stop drawing attention to your mistake, always the best choice. Just be quiet till it blows over - no one will remember it was you...

I disagree. This is a conversation we need to have as a community. People who believed the doomsday scenarios need to ask themselves why they did.

People who are saying that it's pointless to get riled up about an asteroid because there's nothing you can do, or that because in the cosmic sense we're unimportant, are wrong. Or at least, they're missing the point.

The point is that with a level head and reasonable understanding of science, you'd have realized from the start that YU55 was not a threat. We can inoculate ourselves from hysteria with the proper understanding of reason and logic. And should we find ourselves faced with such a threat, we'd be that much better prepared to confront it.

Oh boy! Is this the new doomsday belief? And presented so soon after the last one!

I don't think our government has helped either.. By eroding our trust in them, we don't know what to believe. Conspiracies are rational reaction to a nuts world!

They overstate danger when its suits their political aims but understate it when their is no political advantage in exploiting it.. So unfortunately we come up with our own answers..

We are also going through a psychological adjustment to the infinite supply of information, a great time but also a confusing age to live in ! We are the first humans to have had access to the entire knowledge database of humankind.. A blessing and a curse !

It is perfectly legit and ok to not trust "the government" - but what always puzzles me is the fact that people jump on conspiracy theories and random "shady" websites and immediately trust them and hardly ask whether some "prophets" or "channelers" etc. dont have an evil Agenda for themselves.

It just doesnt make sense to come up with elaborate conspiracy theories where the Gvt,, NASA, "main stream media" and everyone is "the bad guys"..while blindly believing what they hear on Coast 2 Coast or from Hoagland, Icke etc.

HEALTHY SKEPTICISM

I for one hate Google auto fill as you type, I never look at it while I'm entering a search. The real problem is the hits on an information search is cluttered with the going conspiracies because it is entertainment for the masses, a pastime, a curiosity, something to read in leisure that isn't boring sciency stuff. It's makes finding facts and reputable sites more difficult.

Face it, people already have their minds made up before they are presented information of to which side they will or want to believe, or entertain, possibly just for entertainment reasons. When the first 10 or so hits that come up are fringe pseudoscience, it only reinforces that the authoritative sources must be hiding something. I believe this thought is reinforced because the readers have no vested interest in the particular subject presented, or no higher education in the matter, or like I said, are just entertaining themselves. Maybe they get a rise out of the thought that maybe they are reinforcing the idea that some readers might be alarmed by the information presented, or the presenter is gathering attention, from cyber strangers, for what ever that is worth.

Even a vague understanding of entry level knowledge of some of the doom threads subjects simply doesn't heighten any alarmed emotions in more critical thinkers. Its a curiosity about the human condition I suppose that draws me into reading some of the doom threads, (albeit, largely just the space exploration genera) because to consume myself in all of the doom/prophesy/numerology what-have-you kinds of doomer threads would consume my entire days and where would my life be then?

I'll leave those thoughts where they go, and I'm not going to fire back at mockrock for his activity of late except to say that everyone should selectively evaluate what's more important right around you right now before life passes you by without your participation in what's really important, and harvest the most enjoyment you can find living there.

No Apophis is on hold... we still have the big one in Dec 2012.... that will fire up over the next few months as we get closer...

I was thinking of getting some Vegas casinos to take up bets on that. Its a win win situation, because if the planet does get wiped in 2012, they won't have to pay out

The convo in my house went like this...
Me: Oh btw chaps we are all supposed to die again today.
Son: Cool, what's for dinner?
Hubby: Are we going for a drink after?

It all boils down to this one sentence...

Some people know BS when they see it and others don't.... repeatedly!

IRM

Yes but some people buy the government BS... repeatedly!

BS is BS no matter the source. However, staying on topic... In relation to both Elenin and YU55 there was no government BS. What came out of the scientific community... (or government if you will) was always the truth. Ergo, we are all here and the Earth is intact. No impact! The BS happened in the minds of the chicken little's and the other silly farmyard animals that followed them. All purely fictional BS. Those are the real dis-info agents right there. People should be angry at them for the fear they spread yet they are never held to account in the same way that the government is. I find that intriguing... and counter-logical.

"There's a sucker born every minute" - P. T. Barnum or (who ever the real author of the quote is)

People are very gullible and want to trust people, we all are like that on different topics. OP when you realized the prediction was a failure you shouldn't of got mad and called the guy a disinfo agent and say he was trying to throw you off Nibiru's arrival next year, it makes you look bad. I really think you should talk to a astronomer or someone who's great in physics maybe they can help you instead of google university.

Edit: I'm glad you are starting to realize that the internet is full of charlatans out to make money and feed their ego. Everyone get's fooled atleast you didn't ruin your life like my cousin did back in the early 2000's because of Nancy Lieder and Nibiru.
