I can totally understand this decision. It's pointless (haha) to have such a thing, it's just a useless gadget. When aimed at someone's eyes it can be really dangerous. Last summer I got flashed in the face unknowingly by some youngsters at night who were having fun. I wasn't driving luckily because the flash was so intense I was disoriented for a couple of seconds and for a moment even scared to dead because I didn't know what just happened. Few seconds later I got my bearings back and was happy to realise it were just kids having (annoying) fun.

The lasers are only a threat in the hands of the irresponsible and those that misuse them should be punished, but it is nonsense to ban the lasers themselves. I intended to get a few because I want to set up a my own scientific experiments that require them. And if they are made illegal then I automatically become a criminal and subject to arrest and other penalties.

If you point a laser pointer at a helicopter
it is a felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison
for interfering with aircrafts.

A guy was just in the news got two years for
shining a laser pointer at a police helicopter
that reportedly kept flying back and forth over his
house and he had could not sleep while needing
to get up in the morning..

It is no joke to them, does it really blind them
or just really pisses them off so they got a law
that can put you away for a while.

I do not believe they should be banned though,
they could be used in emergency situations
to signal for help!!

A little laserbeam dot will surely get Batman's attention...
I don't think anyone will receive your SOS with that stuff, sorry.

Whoever filming it is obviously looking at it, so they don't seem too concerned about being blinded by it.

Importing them into Australia has been banned for a few years now. There must be another reason to ban them. Some say that they reflect of cloaked UFOs...

Lawl xd. If they reflect off cloaked ufos, then there is still the rest of the world that can go ufohunting
. There is no practical need for them and massive azzholes used them to try and cause a crash.

Yes they most certainly could, and why is banning them the solution? just because kids point it at helicopters and pilots argue about it?

So whats next be banned? a water bottle full of water?
