The largest sunspots since 2005 are now visible from the Earth. These huge sunspots have been slowly rotating to face the Earth since November 3, 2011. The largest of these sunspots, Sunspot AR 1339, is said to be 17 times the Earth’s width. This region of the Sun has caused massive solar flares which can trigger radio blackouts and long-lasting radiation storms. The Solar Dynamics Observatory team even called Active Region 1339 a “Bad Boy” causing a solar flare reaching X1.9 at 20:27 UTC on the 3rd

We watch the opposite on the Southern Hemisphere. This is not the only anomaly. Also the Flux readings are lower then normal when they are on the sun. Normally the Flux levels are a good general indicator of solar activity, but it has been observed that the F10.7 Flux levels have actually decreased while the Negative Sunspots have appeared and grown.
October Update: LSC 58.9, SIDC 88.0, NOAA unadjusted 123.5 (prov). SIDC for the 7th straight month over counting compared with NOAA. October keeping up the momentum experienced in September with the F10.7 flux values also showing a flat trend. The speck counting during October becoming even more apparent with the modern count being not even close when comparing with the Wolf method. SIDC this month counting a single unipolar spot with a non Waldmeier value of 4 (plus 10) on three occasions. 4th, 13th & 20th.
