I'd have liked to have been at this firework display in Scotland - it seems to have gone with a bang...

www.bbc.co.uk...

A technical hitch at the annual Oban bonfire night display set off thousands of pounds worth of fireworks within a minute.

The show, organised by Oban and Lorn Lions, was expected to last about half an hour and was to be accompanied by music.

After the unexpectedly short display, an announcement was made to inform the crowds that the fireworks were over.

I found a video of the display on Youtube:

The latest news is that the people of Oban will get a free firework show at the end of a local festival later this month by way of an apology from the company that put on the bonfire display - so they get a rather unusual and memorable show plus a more conventional one...

(I wasn't sure which forum to post this one in...)

Explanation: S&F! (Yes I think this IS the appropriate forum... Good Choice!)

Personal Disclosure:
I wonder what caused the glitch and whether it was deliberate or sabotage?

probably it was wired wrong and once the first rocket was launched it triggered everything to go off at the same time but i can imagine the company that did it are checking everything they do from now on a little bit closer

So, instead of getting half an hour of pissy fireworks they got a minute of awesomeness

Hope no one is complaining!

You think those are the only two possibilities?

Accidental isn't a logical possibility?

Those 2 words: Bonfire + Fireworks = ↑↑ that video.
I would have expected no less.
Probably a bit of alcohol tossed into that equation also.

Most of the news reports I've seen online refer, somewhat vaguely, to a "technical hitch".

For a bit of variety, some of the reports change it to a "technical glitch".

If my kids had been at this display, I dread to think what I'd have to arrange next year to avoid them being disappointed!

I'm guessing there are a few demo guys putting the final touches on their resume's after that screw up. I can only imagine the $$ signs that blew in their 'glitch' moment, not to mention the cost of a replacement show. Wow... I'm just grateful no one was hurt and they at least remained vertical for the launch tubes.

It is quite a grande finale' though. Nice show.....

Explanation: Accidents with explosives ... thats human error! Thats a failure to measure twice and cut once and thats not an accident thats lack of OVERSIGHT!

Personal Disclosure: Logical ..No way! Unless something crashed into the fireworks setup and caused them to detonate within seconds of each other [a bird maybe?
] I am sticking with insurance writeoffs and or sabotage.

I am sticking with insurance writeoffs and or sabotage.

Accidents are often the result of human error. They occur every day, all around the world.

What could have possibly led you to the conclusion of an insurance write-off? Insurance for what? Did someone die? Was there property damage that was not mentioned?

Those fireworks had been purchased for the purpose of setting them off. They may not have gone off in the desired timing, but they did go off exactly how they were supposed to, up in the air. If you work for an insurance company who pays on something such as that, then you may have just got yourself a new client. I think we can do some business.

Explanation: Uhmmm?

And businesses don't insure their stock against unforseen losses?
Pffft!

Were they paid in advance or when the show was done?

Personal Disclosure: It may be a lack of OVERSIGHT! But like someone posted above OL is sure that some pyrotechnician is filling out the resume. And that is no accident becuase they failed to make sure didn't they!
