Hi All,

Just had this clip sent to me & wanted to share here to get others views.

The caption was "GIRL ATTEMPS SUICIDE IN CHINA BY JUMPING OF A FREEWAY OVERPASS",IF YOU THINK CHINESE ARE CRUEL AFTER WATCHING THIS I THINK U ARE CORRECT!"

The video is shocking, but I'll let you guys see for yourselves.

The first 30 seconds is the newsreaders commentary.

It was on facebook, & I don't know how to post the video, so if anyone can do this please do.

Video

Also, the commentary is all in chinese, so if anyone can translate please...I would like to know if anyone helped this girl, & if she lived, (The title suggests she did!)

I did search for this, but couldn't find anything about it. The clip is dated 04/11/11 Any info on this girl would be great.

Its China, like many asian countries the loss of life isnt as significant as it is in other parts of the world. My brother was in China for a while and he said things like this are common practice over there. Still very sad to see nonetheless.

I know right!

I was shocked when the first car drove off, but when the car filming did the same thing I couldn't believe it.
Then , when NONE of the other cars stopped?????

What is wrong with these people???

Is this lack of compassion representative of most Chinese people?

Can anyone translate the people in the car filming?

I have heard the reason these things happen and nobody helps is because of some screwed-up legal loophole that allows the victim to effectively get lots of money from whoever helped them. People know if they stop they might end up having to pay the victim money! Plus getting involved with the police in China is supposedly a nightmare; they, too will extort bribes for any reason or no reason at all, and they are suspicious of people acting "altruisic"...might even try to pin a crime on them or make the accident "their fault."
So because there have been precidents like this, everybody knows about it and nobody stops to help in these situations.

It's not right and I'm not making excuses for it, but this is how it was explained to me by one who knew better about it. Corruption is pretty horrible once it sets in. If the above explanation can be believed, this is not some kind of innate coldness or cultural/racial disposition, but rather fear over having your own life destroyed. It teaches us how deeply legal and political structures can affect the fabric of daily life.

You don't know how lucky we are to not have been born in China!

They have to have the most corrupt system on the planet.

well said, theres been so many American cases of Police officials doing the above and even going as far as to killing innocent and frame them as drug dealers or murderers posthumously!

i would even add that if anyone's likely to stop to help, it's sadly lawyers looking to make a $buck by placing blame on someone, anyone.

Well at least that explanation is better than just thinking the Chinese people have no compassion.

How awful to not feel you cannot help someone in need because of corrupt police, & the fear of being sued.

I hope the rest of the world isn't heading in that same direction.....

I was actually concerned as I had watched a documentary many years ago (about 15years) , where they were concerned about the children being indulged with everything they want, due to the one child policy.
They were saying that as each child usually had 2 sets of doting grandparents, maybe also both great grandparents, along with their parents who were catering to the childs every whim, that children were committing horrible crimes at young ages when these requests were refused. ie, murdering parents, grandparents etc.
I remember thinking at the time, "What sort of adults will these kids grow into"?

Thanks for the reply

and at very least,

the Chinese don't seem to fly planes into domestic buildings

of thousands of their own People.

At least they drove around her and not over her like in this incident.

The lack of compassion by so many is indeed weird over there.

I did a first aid course twenty years ago and we were told that if we helped someone like this and made a mistake while holding a current senior first aid certificate, we could be sued also. Everyone was very reluctant to stop and help anyone after hearing that (the first aid certificate was part of a panelbeating course).

What you said makes sense.

imagine that! if it were a baby in the freeway, what it would haave been reduced to =(

cuz probably only reason they went around bigger budy was to avoid body damage - to their vehicle!

What a disgusting display!!!

Even the threat of being sued could'nt EVER let me leave a child in that state!
All I can think is what goes around, comes around....
The people that pass by those that need help, will have the same happen to them, or worse, THEIR loved ones.

Surely the Chinese people can lobby for reforms to these laws??

The real news is not the girl jumping, but the @$$holes driving past and not caring about anything but getting to their next off ramp and lining up for their morning Star Bucks.

And people still wonder why so many believe we have lost all of our humanity towards each other? Notice the PR trained smile on the reporter?

I'm pissed off at watching this.

I'm not surprised in the slightest humans get stupid in groups.
This isn't uniquely part of the Chinese culture although cultural factors may play a part its mainly caused by something called the bystander effect.

en.wikipedia.org...

this is simply who humanity is warts and all.

Its no wonder she jumped, living in that crap hole. But yeah, the Chinese government are so corrupt that if you get involved with them you'll end up regretting it so its no wonder people didn't stop to help. Also, do all cars in china have cameras, or was that a surveillance car? And I thought the UK was bad.

I was also thinking along the same lines, everyone saying "oh, well since it's a legal inconvenience then it's understandable" screw that, real compassion is caring and doing what you can despite the inconvenience of the legal matters that might plague you for helping.
