Greeks agree coalition government without Papandreou

www.bbc.co.uk

Greek leaders at crisis talks in Athens have agreed to form a new national unity government, the president's office says.

Beleaguered Prime Minister George Papandreou will step aside and his successor will be chosen on Monday, the statement said.

He and main opposition leader Antonis Samaras attended Sunday's talks, hosted by President Karolos Papoulias.

The announcement follows a week of turmoil over Greece's debt crisis.

Looks like the threat was made and Papandreou submitted and saved his life. Let's have a look at a snapshot timeline over the past 10 days in Greece;

-Bailout package offered by EU to Greece

-Bailout package rejected

-Greek PM schedules referendum on whether to accept the bailout package and remain a member of the EU or reject the package and leave the EU (vote for exit of EU highly expected by analysts)

-Referendum canceled

-PM steps down, coalition government formed

Papandreou, no doubt saved his own life and caved to the pressures of the EU and IMF. This has all the hallmarks of the banksters and high-level string pullers again, getting their way via threats bullying and out right extortion.

Papandreou's successor is to be chosen today and will no doubt be the proverbial marionette...what a shame, I was looking forward to the banksters getting the bird flipped to them by those who invented democracy.

Good luck Greece.

All it will change is a lowered level of resistance and a higher level of adherence to the EU power brokers....give the people a say, who did that bloke think he was?

I don't expect the Greek people to take this lightly. There won't be an election until AFTER the EU bailout package has been secured and implemented.
Their say has been blatently taken from them.
So wrong...

I don't know why, but I just had to think of the greek story of Harmodios and Aristogeiton who murdered the tyrant-brother Hipparchos in 514 BC.
This event is regarded as the birth of democracy in Athens, which is why the Greek raised a bronze statue in honor of Harmodios und Aristogeiton.

All these backroom deals by Greek politicos, backslapping and congrats all round by the political classes at having sorted it all out. A government of 'Unity' to make sure the bailout deal, and the accompanying raping of the Greeks goes through OK... and then maybe elections.

No doubt the media will be reporting on a 'job well done', and the markets will rally at the news.

.... and STILL no one's asked the Greek people what they think about all this

Democracy at it's most ludicrous

sadly people never have a say.

Dont forget George Papandreou was born in America and was raised in America i could say the same thing for the opposition, they are all puppets.

Don't give the Greek people too much credit. Look at how they lived and didn't care about reality way above European standards; the same is becoming of the rest of Europe.
They shouldn't have led Greece in the EU first of all because of the corruption and the bureaucracy and believe me that is not just the government but also the people who enjoyed the loops and holes they could sometimes abuse.
Just like in Italy.

There'll always be a black sheep however currently the government is the black sheep whilst it should be the bankers trying to make money off the common people! The bankers who don't care about the common interest only about themselves! This is not capitalism! This is tyrannic! They've gone way too far! The IMF, The national banks, The private banks, The credit curators, The bankers who ripped off the common people with false promises; e.g. the mortgages & retirement funds investing; everybody who enforces and profits of this gulf of economic problems should be held accountable and responsible!

It's time again just as in 1939 for someone to stand up for the common people and fight for the common interest!

You sort of get the feeling the leaders idea of a vote was a hasty decision.. something that i imagine was yelled as a fist slammed on a table giving the 'f**k you' to the IMF and bankers.

is it the right decision?.. well why not give the people the chance to decide if their future and their incomes were willing to sacrifice for the possible saviour of the greedy few...

.... him leaving? makes me think there was a power struggle in the background.. and some big players in the world money scene called in some favours to have him forcibly leave under duress and pressure.

they are damned if they do, and seemingly damned if they dont. the only way you work back from debt is hard work and stringent spending.

...there is no other way!

So you are saying we should kneel to slavery and work our entire lives for theoretically 10% of all of our salaries in the long run?

I think this is bull. I think it is ridiculous how you could possibly believe the bull they tell you.

You pay around 50% tax immediately when you receive your salary. After that you spend it on food and pay around 20% tax again. Then you pay your healthcare bounty and pay tax again. Then you pay your electricity bills and pay tax again.
In the long run all you do is pay for taxes.

The saddest thing is when you need something from your healthcare insurance company they'll deny your request because their policy does not cover your problem. So basically if you payed bounty for 50 years and you break your leg very nasty they won't help you because they don't cover it and believe me it happens often. So you pay bounty and you pay your own bills after all.
In The Netherlands currently you have to pay 220 Euro's yourself before they start covering stuff. So I personally pay 70 Euro's per month bounty which is 840 Euro's per year. Of which I only use 38 Euro's per year which fall beneath the 220 Euro line so I pay in total 878 Euro's of which I only had to pay 38 Euro's without an insurance.
Having no insurance however is illegal.

And this situation repeats itself everywhere in our societies. We pay three taxes over our electricity bills.
All is currently going to Greece.

No, my wishes don't go as far as to murder those responsible however I think they should be held accountable and be dragged in front of court for not taking the common interest in account and get adequate punishments.

1939 all over again is my fear and my hope.
I hope this time it'll be in responsible ways.
That someone unites our peoples and fights for a common interest and a political unity.
If needed uses force to liberate our peoples from the corrupted Capitalism and corrupted Democracy.

I love true Capitalism and Democracy but look how far we are from that point.
I'm pretty sure those few elites in power who are responsible for a lot of the current situation will not leave freely.

Greek politicians may call themselves 'socialists', but the only thing socialist about them is to socialize debts. Every politician in Greece is a crook regardless if ruling or opposition. Corruption, thanks to the Ottoman Empire that rule them, was a way of life then and is now after independence, a way of life for the greeks, espacially the older hands. Old habits die hard.

Thus everyone who wants to become a political representative is not because they want to serve the people with power given, but rather, to rob them with every availiable power and opportunity.

Many of the younger generation, those below 50, know it is wrong, espacially the innocent young and poor who never sought for the unconscionable riches the 1% hanker after, and thus the consistant riots when the politicians failed to deliver a fair, if not equal, distribution of wealth, and worse now, the removing of whatever social safety nets in the forms of jobs and investment for the masses with austerity drives that will stunt growth, pay off only debts on interest of sovereign loans, and turn 99% greeks into serfs.

Many compared the success of Iceland letting banks fail and gained its footing today, but a few claimed Iceland had no sovereign debts, only bad bank loans.

What actually happen pre-08 was that banks had been happily pushing loans to anyone who wants it, no questions asked. When defaults happened, the banks wanted bailout from the gov, just like others around the world whom got them, thanks to banksters whom ruled our world. BUT not Iceland banks. They got the People's middle finger instead and today, Iceland stands tall with growth.

Post 08, banksters were smarter. They push loans instead to govs to go ahead and use it as they wish, no questions asked, for they know that while individuals will not pay, govs will pay, by persuasion or by the guns to force the citizens pay up, one way or another.

Corrupt GOVs in collusion with banksters such as greece and Italy are only too happy to so do. And today, those loans had been UNCONSCIONABLY and unwisely spent. Billions went into corrupt pockets and inferior structures, middle classed savings robbed in the casino stock markets and loss making companies abound the landscape.

And the masses are now to pay for it, with another puppet on the throne that the greeks have no other better choices???

To the banksters and 1% gansters, on behalf of the 99% innocent greeks and italians:-

Don't forget the Irish, or the citizens in other European countries who are suffering over their own Governments faults and the bankers faults. And the arrogance of the European Political Elite, who think it is okay, to rail role every citizen in Europe, into A United States of Europe.

Which clearly a percentage of Citizens in Europe have rejected this notion, which has fell on deaf ears.

BTW loved your image at the end!

First of all, if you will all pardon the opinion which may go against the grain.....

Capitalism, communism, socialism.... these are all cattle-management policies. It is never about the leadership caste... only the heard which does all the toiling and endures all the milking. The issue is to make them feel like it was their choice.

In the end the elite leadership of every country - regardless of "-ism" they may adopt, are better treated, better served, better cared for, better compensated, and that's not to mention the 'entitlement' to respect which goes as far, in many countries, as to afford the heard corporal or economic punishment for not paying deference to them.

These people make the decisions.... the heard pays the price.

Now, of all things, a former EU Central Bank VP is the 'golden child' in the potential to become the leader of the Greek people, consigning them to whatever policies "his wisdom" may come up with. Oh, and where has this financial/economist priest been during the crisis... at MIT..... in the US.... he had refused to become their finance minister years ago (when asked) due to "partisan frictions" which he characterized as repugnant to him... but now that the IMF and the supranational global banking elite are calling the shots ... "Here he comes to save the day!".... where's Andy Kaufmann when you need him?

Just adding some references to the above.....

ATHENS, Nov. 7, 2011 (Reuters) — Former deputy president of the European Central Bank Lucas Papademos is the front runner to become Greece's new prime minister, Greek media wrote on Monday.

Capitalism is an economical stream whilst Socialism is a social stream I don't see how you can line these up.
But I'm not entirely sure!

Socialism, National Socialism, Fascism, Bolshevism etc
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Capitalism, Communism etc

National Socialism; Serve and protect the common interest.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not entirely sure.
