FIRE RIVER PORT VIDEO

ARKHANGELSK. November 6 (Itar-Tass) – A fire broke out in the Arkhangelsk Zharovikha river port on Sunday. Round timber piles are ablaze, head of the Arkhangelsk regional emergency situations department Igor Grigoryev told Itar-Tass.
The fire has spread onto more than 3,000 square meters, he said. “The fire belongs to Category 3, and nearly the entire personnel of the city fire department are putting it out,” he said.

I don't know a lot about Russian geography or economics. Could you explain why this fire is significant? Is it located in an area of turmoil? Does it house particularly sensitive products? Is it responsible for most of the river's traffic?

The article didn't have any more information than what you posted.

Wow! If the fire closes river traffic there, that would close the entire river. Thanks for the map.

Well, I'm sorry but still don't get it.

The river has water, it won't burn. Traffic will be eventually re-opened.

Unless we are talking about a chem/oil spill or nuclear plant envolved, I don't understand why the "OMG!".

Well, I don't either. But in my case my lack of knowledge makes me think that maybe there is an OMG that I can't understand right now. I suspect there is a language problem involved between the OP and me.

You're right again. I'm hoping for some clarification. I also don't know how wide the river's navigable path is. Perhaps traffic can go right around the dock

My best guess is that a significant portion of that area's economy just went up in smoke. Logging is likely a big source of income there.
