But not just the biggest shopping day of the year! Can we as a whole society BOYCOTT the commercialism of christmas, do more local buying (and not buy xboxes and computers/laptops, ipads, etc unless secondhand)? Make christmas about family again! Make your christmas gifts? This is what I plan on doing, and I would like everybody to join me, make the companies hurt where it counts! Their WALLETS!!!! We need to get this out to everybody mass emails and flyers, if people don't know why give them the facts about these companies to open their eyes!!!
Let's make it not so merry a christmas from those who'd drain the lifeblood not only out of America, but out of the entire world!!!

nice to see somebody with common sense,

We need to choke the life out of the corporate beast, unfortunately most folk can't see the problems because they are comfortable and lazy,

I personally ditched my SKY TV, my Vodafone mobile, I shop at smaller stores like Lidl, Aldi (the food is supiorior quality),

I can't add more than this because I don't do Face Book anymore either! I'm one of the few who can see the wood amongst the trees and making my own changes! how ever little, I do it for the right reasons,

Great post, thank you

Wont happen.

You will see the same people protesting these mega corporations continuing on buying goods from mega corps such as wal-mart.

my take on it.

but I would agree with you, that such an event would cripple a lot of these buisnesses because they put so much stock into selling those goods. It would be nice to see them with massive amounts of stock left over.

But like I said, people are too stuck in their ways.

They like to protest, but when it comes to actually living by what they are protesting, its damn near impossible to find those people.

HAHA I almost was going to use that as the title lol.

But they may be so franchised now that I'd be slapped with a copyright lawsuit!

I'm down. What better way to hurt the big corporations than their wallets? Bank of America just took a powerful kick to the [snip] with Bank Transfer Day, so if there are events similar to that organized fairly often, that will at the very least send a strong message.

I've got another one, but some might cringe at the very thought: Don't buy anything for Christmas.

Yeah that idea wouldn't go very far, but still it would be great to hear that a record low amount of money was spent on Christmas gifts.

Im with you but sadly the American people will not be we are to self absorbed and greedy for the latest technology that it will never happen. could you imagine if people had to use a laptop that is over 6 months old instead of getting the newest one or how about if they didn't have the newest iPod because realistically who can live without one with its ability to feed and clothe us and god forbid if our spoiled little brats didn't get the newest games for the newest systems out there why they could become social outcast

The time for heartfelt gifts bought at local level made by local people has past its a sad day but one in which we have no one else to blame but ourselves stop blaming the corporations for our stupidity we did this, we caused this beast and when the economy was great for the middle class no one cared but oh no the middle class finally had to see how the bottom lived and now its a problem boo-hoo welcome to rock bottom alot of us have been here a long time but to those are just joining us let me catch you up its your fault you didn't get a good education in something worthwhile, its your fault you spent one million dollars on a starter home, its your fault our jobs went overseas because you voted with your wallet, its your fault we are in this mess because we have pencil whipped the past 40 years of elections so suck it up hit the pavement and get looking for a way to improve the situation other than playing the blame game.(which i just did for an entire paragraph so you see the irony here yet?)

Op im sorry for the rant on your thread while i applaud your effort and really would love to see the numbers post after black Friday if no one shopped but i think its to late i will miss the Christmas's past there was some good times and you will be missed R.I.P old-fashioned Christmas

And by the way most us "rednecks" never lost old fashion Christmas i will be with my family and we will be exchanging gifts usually something homemade because we never have had much money to begin with so this economy has not hurt or helped us in any way shape or form we will sit down to a fresh killed turkey (about a month old due to turkey season laws here) we will eat homemade apple pie with homemade ice cream laugh about old times and bicker over petty things just like every Christmas i can ever remember.

No, that's the last thing we need. I don't care if you love your religion, keep it to yourself.

I don't want to hear about how wonderful their religion is and that you can learn lots from the Bible. That's great, but I am not interested. Especially on Christmas Day, the day I always reserve for Family only. But still they come knocking!!

Afterall, you are calling to make Christmas Day a Family Day aren't you?

Good idea, OP! I absolutely LOATHE and DETEST "Black Friday"!!

It has become a ridiculous freak show. Honestly, who in their right minds would spend the night in the parking lot of a store when it's cold, just to be the first of the cattle to get in through the doors to save a few bucks on a bunch of crap?

I remember seeing something about this last year, and when they interviewed the shoppers, who were overwhelmingly female, most admitted they were shopping for themselves. So the day has become an orgy of selfishness.

I still have visions in my head of that stampede in a Wal Mart a few Black Fridays ago, in which somebody was trampled to death, just so somebody else can get a good deal on a flat screen TV or a cell phone or some chintzy jewelry. When people trample others to death in order to buy some junk made in China, that should be a wake-up call.

This is a great idea. I can't find this right now, but I remember seeing a percentage somewhere that said Black Friday made up a lot of most large store's annual earnings. Treating it like any other day of the year would seriously hurt their bottom line.

I firmly believe that we as a country have lost a lot of tradition that we really need. Christmas is not what it once was. For some people (I envy you, Immune) it sticks around.. but for most, it's simply about "What awesome piece of technology will I get this year that will become totally useless when the next version is out next summer?" and how much more blinding your christmas lights are compared to the neighbors.

What ever happened to hand made being viewed as from the heart?? Now a days, if it didn't cost you $20, it's viewed as crap no matter what it actually is or represents.

I have some figures on the thread I linked to above. These large corporations depend so much of their gains on the holidays that it's ridiculous!

If people would simply commit to not using any credit cards this year, it would also make a huge impact.

I have personally boycotted black friday for the past 10 or so years.
But my job has required me to work on black friday for 7 of those years so I'm
probably a hypocrite.

so you are suggesting a 'Walton Mountain Christmas'

sheese ....how idealistic in the bad way... until the greed & idea of getting-over-on-you-neighbor becomes passe'

there will be a line a mile long of people that will sell their conscience & ethics for a good priced 'markdown' on the items that are popular and envious to own (bragging crap to impress their friends)

it might work in a totally collapsed economy... but not in this state of affairs we have now...

as for your post, the sentiment is appreciated...

can you tell us if your avatar is crying or just Gothic &/or sinister (with all that shadow under the eyes & all)

your words say one thing but it still remains ambigious (to me)
