Here you go, the perfect cure for your fear ... it's almost as if it was written for you! Or another, just like you.

Close encounter of an asteroid kind: Not that big of deal. It's all about fear $$$

Again, why do you say it was discovered late when it's been 6 years that we've known about this?

Honestly, it seems you're fear mongering for the sake of it. Care to refute?

2005 YU55 is not a part of anything larger. It is its own asteroid. The asteroid that could be a threat in 20 years is Apophis. What most people don't realize is that Apophis has an orbital period of less than a year and is actually quite tiny. It's even smaller than 2005 YU55.

Great thread thanks for the warning.

Lets hope it doesn't get deflected.

A obvious attempt to get another 25+ page fear mongering thread going.

A bit unfair ...it is relatively close and big.

There are those who say these things can get pushed off course, by extreme solar energy bursts ect, so we all need to keep open minds, lest we haven't time to call in Bruce W.

Isnt this YU55 ? Its not new we've known about it since 2005. It will pass between the earth and the moon.
DO NOT PANIC

No really I am serious this wont be a problem for us.

I dont think you will see anything unless you have a telescope. An asteroid in not like a comet. You wont have the burnoff tail to announce its presence in the sky. I do not think this asteroid will reflect enough light to be seen from earth with the naked eye.

Hey I believe in 2012. The same as I believe in 2011, 2010, all the years before that and all the years to come. I believe in all of them.
The 2012 end Game I do not believe in.

I guess if you put all this stuff into a box and shook it up and then spilled the contents out it might appear that this is all the same thing or related things. That is an illusion. Just because someone groups these things together does not mean that they belong together or that they even relate to each other.
We have tests of the emergency broadcast system every single week. That fits here on ATS where the world ends every week anyway!

Not at all unfair...there is not even a remote chance that it will impact the Earth on this pass, and it was discovered 6 years ago. So, a fail on a fail.

There are those who say Ethel Merman could sing...saying it doesn't make it true.

In the article it says:

However, it isn't expected to pose any threat and its gravity will have "no detectable effect on anything here on Earth," NASA reported.

How is this so frightening?

Oh, well, let me explain if I may, it's suppose to be frighting because NASA/JPL wants more money. Like with their taking the position as of late being global warming alarmists. It's about wanting to become the watch dog of the Earth. I mean look at all that fear money made off of fighting the so called war on terror.

"The only thing to fear is fear itself." -FDR

And that's SO TRUE!

NASA estimates that the asteroid will pass earth some time between Nov 8th-10th the object was detected too late than what they said in their previous speeches "there are no known asteroids or comets which will come close to earth until 2025"

its as big as an aircraft carrier and it can destroy cities the size of NewYork 5 times over again

OMG
for starters..
they have known about this asteroid since 2005 (hence the name yu2005 or 2005yu depending on whos saying it)
also when you state nasa says we will get no asteroids till 2025 i want to know where u read this because it is total BS (we will get many MANY before then something like 3 or more per year? they happen alot we have over 1.3k orbiting the sun)
i guess this will be the closest shave till then by such a large asteroid (whats size/mass has been changed alot in the media recently?)
actually the nearest thing to this will be the legendary 99942 Apophis (2029) with possible impact in 2036

Yeah, more than three a year. We are continuously bombarded by asteroids ummm that should be meteorites/meteors . Most are not very large. So I think you meant to say 3 or more relatively large ones. Not huge mind you just large.

I should know I was conceived on what is called Meteor........St., and born right before the Moon landing mission Apollo 11 was launched. You see, that mission was designed to check out the creators on the Moon for me using the Moon as an impacted indicator, it's historic record in that regard anyway. It was all about off the record to see if it was safe for me to be here on Earth.
So just call me lil Eagle. Buzz and company landed on the Moon in the big Eagle, and I landed on Earth..... Wait that would make my mom lil Eagle. Oh well I'm here, and that's what counts.

This not only has been known about for a long time, it was -removed- from the threat list in April of this year. They knew then it would not pose a serious threat to the planet. Mind.. it might in the future. It just isn't this pass.

Do a bit of research before you start yet another fear-mongering, omg we are all going to die thread.

all though this astroid will most likely not hit the earth, What effect will it have on the satellites orbiting the earth? maybe a false flag opportunity to knock out a few spy satellites and blame it on the asteroid. Isn't this around the same time the emergency broadcast system will take place? "The nationwide test will occur on Wednesday, November 9 at 2 p.m. (Eastern) time and may last up to three and a half minutes." link

edit...my bad I just realized the asteroid will pass on the 8th and the EBS will be on the 9th..still the asteroid could ram into some satelites as it passes by
