I did a quick search for this and came up empty. If it is posted i apologize for the useless thread. I found this interesting and had to share. A shipping crate that has enough radiation to kill someone that wasn't wearing a 5-inch thick lead vest. Wow.

If you just skip to like the last page and read it says they found a small cylinder that was emitting the radiation and they shipped it to germany to test it and find out what it is and where its from.. Really interesting read non the less agreed?

One Love.

reading it now... getting really annoyed the writer feels he has to circumnavigate the entire planet before coming back to the original story...

Very strange story, even stranger, is a mention of another odd occurrence with shipping containers in that article.

. Inside, police found an Egyptian-born Canadian carrying a Canadian passport, a satellite phone, a cell phone, a laptop, cameras, maps, and security passes to airports in Canada, Thailand, and Egypt. The container’s interior was outfitted with a bed, a water supply, a heater, and a toilet. Nicknamed Container Bob, the man posted bail in Italian court and was never seen again.

Am I missing something? Where's the rest of the story? The authorities would have been called to figure this out.

I also found this part a tad disturbing...

"Lots of harmless things are slightly radioactive — kitty litter, ceramic tiles, even bananas. " Why the hell are bananas slightly radioactive? You learn something new everyday.

Yep, radiation kills the bacteria. Radiation is also used to steralise other things, such as surgical implements.

Because they're high in potassium, which is radioactive

Looks like someone wanted to get rid of the radiation source without paying for proper waste disposal (can be really expensive for highly radioactive stuff like this). Good that they noticed it while the container was still in dock.

A common sort of tactic when actual informaton is low and page views are coveted.

I saw a bizarre blue box about 5' by 5' by 5' strapped to a flatbed truck with the word "RADIOACTIVE" painted on the side, moving through my neighborhood with police escorting it in front and back about a month or two ago. Maybe longer. I wonder what it could have been?

Interesting piece...S&F on this. I also wonder what the story is on 'Container Bob'.

What they found in the shipping container sounds like a cobalt 60 x-ray source used for industrial x-ray of pipes and castings.("lost source" accidents)

What i wonder is what happened to the lead casket its normally shipped in and where it is.

Whoever took it out of the lead container is likely one sick puppy by now
