B.C. intervened to halt Bush torture case

ht.ly

After George W. Bush faced protests during his visit to Surrey last Thursday, details have emerged of how B.C.'s criminal justice branch – under the attorney general – intervened to shut down a torture case against the former U.S. president, even after a provincial court set a second hearing for January 9, 2012.

I know that some of you won't bother reading the whole article, so here are some important parts near the end:

“We believe the evidence against George Bush is quite strong – we submitted 4,000 pages of evidence to back that up, including his own words. There's a very solid legal case.”

Although police guarding the Surrey Regional Economic Summit told the Vancouver Observer that Bush enjoys diplomatic immunity an an “internationally protected person,” Eisenbrandt said such immunity only extends to current leaders or official diplomatic missions, and that Bush is therefore not immune to prosecution. Earlier this year, Bush cancelled a visit to Switzerland after a similar case was lodged against him there.

“If George Bush were not the former president of the United States, this might have been looked at quite differently. These laws are on the books in Canada to be able to prosecute people alleged to be involved in torture.

MacKenzie acknowledged the Bush case is “an unusual matter,” but said the decision to shut down the prosecution was unrelated to merit of nearly 4,000 pages of evidence submitted, but rather based solely on the lack of attorney general consent – which he said is required for cases to proceed for crimes committed outside Canada.

The last paragraph states why the case was thrown out by my own provincial government: because of lack of attorney general support.

But just take a look at this:

That day in court was cancelled after the CJB intervened, but the branch never in fact contacted the attorney general of Canada, MacKenzie confirmed, but instead consulted with federal prosecutors.

Man, what a farce of justice. We could have had this warmonger in chains but look what happened; my own government shot down the case against all sense of justice. You know what that is? Injustice. My country now protects war criminals while delivering American military dissenters back to the US to face punishment.

Canada is now a cog in the American Imperial machine. Now wonder why Lady Justice wears a blindfold.

I wish they would have scooped him up and put him in Surrey pre-trial over the weekend

He would get some treatment just as bad if not worse than what they get out in Guantanamo.

Unfortunately what it all comes down to is that these guys are untouchable and there is not a damn thing we can do about it.

That one dude who heckled Bush Sr. at a pizza parlor had MIB show up at his door the very next day.

Simply shows who is in bed together. Bush along with Cheney and Kissenger should all be in prison. Anyone or anything stopping this from going forward is just as guilty as they are. There is unfortunately no justice in this world.

America and the rest of the west remove leaders from power because they have broken internation law...Yet somehow they are above it themselves.. One day like the Nazis they will be held to account..

Why does this not surprise one. Look at what happened when, citizens in the UK tried to arrest Tony Blair, he was protected by the Police. The exact same situation occurred when a Arrest Warrant was issued for An Israeli Official. The UK Government stepped in and stopped it.

War mongers protected not matter what.

Then they need to have the government charged in some way with protecting a war criminal.

If one big fish goes down, they all go down. They control the whole system which
is designed to benefit and protect these insiders. The upper echelons of EVERY
major establishment are envolved.
They ALL need to fall hard. They are the direct source of all the common woes.

Look how much incriminating evidence there is on the rockefellars, rothchilds,
soros, kissinger etc., all the top brass, yet they remain in power, stronger now
than ever. And people continue to participate in a social contract with these
despicables who control everything??? Baah!

In order to bring those guilty to justice you need to reduce their "empire" to ashes as was done in Germany and Japan. Only then can you go about rooting under cabinets with sticks in order to drag em out into the light of day.
Look where they found Saddam...
And they will still whine and protest their innocence for all to hear. Like Nuremburg, Romania under "Chowchesskoo" and Mussolini, etc. These appear to be reasonable people, but at their heart they are without conscience, unlike you and I.

I hope everywhere that the Bushes go, they are hounded and haunted by the souls of all those who died as a result of their twisted fantasies.

Hey George...BOO!!!

Bottom line is, as per the bottom line on the OP's link,

“They're shutting down the case based on a lack of consent -- but they haven't conferred.”

initiated by a quango, the Criminal Justice Branch, it's a rubbish decision.

Here's a pointer,

You know what though.. karma's a bitch & he's going to get his. Regardless of who dishes it out or when it happens, he'll get his. Ten fold.

I hope I'm around to see it.

Charge Bush for the evils of America? That shows how ignorant the people are that claim to know anything about government. Just so you know Bush wasn't the first president to use torture and he sure as hell won't be the last, that is if it was even his idea seeing as the president is just a figurehead and puppet. You people want a scapegoat to hang even though you know damn well that even if you could touch him it still wouldn't accomplish anything. All countries will continue to torture prisoners at their own discretion, however, they will be all the more careful to make sure no one else hears about it. Which means it is all the more likely that the people who have to suffer through such hell will not make it out alive, to make sure the information doesn't leave whatever abroad military compound the poor soul is at.

It's the Canadians

The Canadian Centre for International Justice/Centre canadien pour la justice internationale is a charitable organization that works with survivors of genocide, torture and other atrocities to seek redress and bring perpetrators to justice

www.ccij.ca...
A bunch of Human rights lawyers that belong to the above mentioned group is under the impression that They Would Ever Be Allowed To Prosecute Any One In Power Or Formerly In Power.
The ex-POTUS would have his Security Detail With HIM Even In Prison.

Murat Kurnaz wanted Canada to arrest the former U.S. president during his visit to Surrey because of his imprisonment while Bush Was POTUS.

Like That Will Ever Happen

Believe whatever you want, but the power to change the world is not completely within the hands of the powers that be. This is an illusion that both blind followers and dissidents share.

Sentencing a Western warcriminal will set a major precident for the sake of international justice. It will scare the other warcriminals into either disappearing from the global stage, or becoming so repressive in defiance of law that they could never escape trial.

What would you rather have of our future world: one where empires can run around pilaging and murdering with impunity, or one where leaders of such empires are just as vulnerable to justice and the rule of law as the rest of us? I prefer the latter myself, and sitting on our asses complaining about how things will never change will certainly prove to be a self-fulfilling prophecy if we truly believed it, no?

Nice.

That will hold up nicely if I ever get a speeding ticket again. I'll go to court, and bring this up.

I REFUSE TO PAY THIS FINE BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T CONVICT BUSH. Therefore, your system is illegitamite.

Goodday.
