Israel rushes settlement growth after Unesco accepts Palestinians

www.guardian.co.uk

Israel is to expedite the construction of about 2,000 homes in Jewish settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in response to the Palestinians' successful bid to join Unesco.

Israel also imposed a temporary halt on the transfer of tax revenues which it collects on behalf of the Palestinian Authority (PA) pending a final decision on whether to impose a long-term freeze. Israel collects about £630m a year in VAT and customs revenues which it passes on to the PA.

This has got to be one of the worse cases of a country acting like a spoiled brat I have ever seen. Ever since this UNESCO decision yesterday Israel has threatened attacks, cutting funding and now this.

They are causing as much trouble as possible for the Palestinians and it is bound to get worse:

"As a result of the move, the PA is likely to experience severe difficulties in paying the salaries of tens of thousands of employees ahead of the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday which begins on Sunday."

Bring on the Ant-Semite chants, yada yada. Doesn't work around here anymore.

What really gets to me is that the U.S is so quick to pull the funding, yet they nowhere to be seen when it's time to criticize the settlements.

Obama, Biden, Hillary have all recently publicly criticized the expansions. As usual it was all a big fat stinking lie.

Cut the funding, build more settlements. And they claim Israel is a beacon of peace.

I have been against funding the UN for a long time. This is a start. Not because of this vote. If the countries want to let Palestine join so be it. Let them pay the cost of UNESCO. OWS should be occupying the UN. It is the Globalists poor excuse and front for all their criminal activity.

Amazing how quick Israel jumped in with that call..

It's almost like these settlements were already planned..

Now what was that about disrupting the peace process.

Most of us saw this coming.

They announced a bunch of settlements in East Jerusalem a few weeks back too when Palestine officially submitted their bid.

My first thought was that these settlements have been pre-planned and were to be used in retaliation to any moves that Palestine may make.

The settlements will NOT stop..

Israel wants a long drawn out peace process so they can continue the settlements..
They have clearly stated that NO conditions will be accepted which shows that stance.

And what about that holding back of tax money etc??

That's criminal pure and simple and against a people that have done nothing more than seek recognition in a peaceful, democratic manner through the UN..

IMO people of the world should boycott Israel until they agree to release all owed monies in a timely fashion.

The irony of this whole situation is overwhelming.
Israel IS Palestine.
Just look into the history of Palestine over the last 100 years.
To summarize it briefly, Palestine was a British territory (as was most of the Middle East) and then they brought in the Jews. The Jews rebelled (they were terrorists for a while, killing British soldiers and civilians) and claimed independence. The Jews then forced the native muslim Palestinians into ghettoes (West Bank, Gaza, etc) with the help of Jews living in the US. Most of the Jews came from Russia, Eastern Europe, South America, and Lebanon.
If you ever visit Israel make sure you get the visa stamped on a seperate piece of paper and not in your pasport as you won't be allowed into many countries around the world if they see you have also been to "Occupied Palestine" (Israel is in no way universally recognised). I couldn't get into Jordan years back because I stated that I was coming from a place which didn't exist (Israel) - had I said Occupied Palestine or even just Jerusalem then I wouldn't have had a problem.
Personally, i think this was all engineered. It's an example of how long term the plans of the PTB really are. They NEED a hotbed of permanent chaos and this seemed like the best idea. It's not about Israelis or Palestinians, it's about having a focal point of chaos away from your own population centres.
The entire Middle East issue could be resolved extremely quickly but it's kept in place deliberately.

I don't think I agree with that point simply because I'm amazed at how few people actually even know what is going on over there..
You simply don't hear much about these actions on MSM..
Yes, us here on ATS are well aware but you'd be surprised at the lack of knowledge outside sites like this..

If what you say was true then TPTB would have it as front page news..
Instead it's lucky to get a mention so I'm lead to believe Israel and the US want little known about the atrocities committed while Israel assimilates ALL the land..

No, EVERYONE knows that the middle east is a bad place to hang out and raise kids.
It's much better where they live....
It's another boogeyman, except this one is well planted as it also causes permanent friction in the region and prevents the muslims and arabs from ever really unifying (which they won't do until they've wiped out the Shi'ia)

The other irony is the anti-semitism angle. Both the Palestinians and the native Israelis (but not all Jews) are semitic. It would really help if people actually understood the words they use rather than just repeating them verbatim from what they've been told.

An example of how little people know or understand is the relationship the Israelis have with the Bedouin. They're muslim and are allowed to cross borders virtually unchecked. I've seen young Bedouin boys (12, 13) driving around in old jeeps in the Negev desert past Israeli military stations and no one cares. They're allowed free markets (they trade in solid golid) and are not penned in cages like Gaza.
Not everything is as it appears to be.

What really gets to me is that the U.S is so quick to pull the funding, yet they nowhere to be seen when it's time to criticize the settlements.

I found out recently that the US is actually bound by law to cut funding to UNESCO due to Palestine being accepted.

A US law passed in the 1990s bars giving funding to any UN body that admits the Palestinians as full members before an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal is reached.
BBC - US cuts Unesco funds over vote for Palestinian seat

So as far as the US is concerned, they were just following the law put in place in 1990, even if it is a ridiculous law. Another thing that I find ridiculous is this statement made by the Israeli foreign ministry.

"The Palestinian move at Unesco, as with similar such steps with other UN bodies, is tantamount to a rejection of the international community's efforts to advance the peace process,"

Seems though that the US only abides by it's own laws when it suits Israel..

Isn't there also a law that prohibits giving foreign aid to a nuclear armed country that is NOT a signatory to the NPT??

And yet Israel is by far the biggest recipient of US foreign aid..

Funny how laws can be ignored when it suits Israel.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

Of course they did.

Israel isn't interested in peace. They are interested in themselves. The Israeli government really really needs to stop thinking it's better than the rest of the world, or more important. If they don't, the world is eventually going to crush them.

It'll be their fault too. Self fulfilling prophecy is a terrible thing.

"God's People" would not act this way.

As harsh as it may sound, it's completely true.

It's like they know they're on their way to rock bottom and are going to take everyone they can with them.

They only appear quick because you are ignorant. The US funding cut is becaused of legislation that was ALREADY passed, and the Palestinians new about. This was a done deal if they joined UNESCO, and they did so anyways.
