Ok I have been researching religion for a while now and I just watched Religulous www.imdb.com...
and he say's something at the end which I agree with here it is

The plain fact is religion must die for mankind to live. The hour is getting very late to be able to indulge in having key decisions made by religious people - by irrationalists - by those who would steer the ship of state, not by a compass, but by the equivalent of reading the entrails of a chicken. Bill Maher.

The fact that the major religions talk about the end of time's and they say it must happen before God or whatever save's us etc and listening to people who say the end of time's are close and the fact they are looking forward to it tells me that we shouldn't vote for anyone who is religious because today we do have the way's to destroy the earth and every human being on the planet.
I do think Religion is holding us back as a species because it cause's hate and dis trust and blind's people to accept the End of the world because someone wrote it in a book 2000 years ago (example).
We have to stand up and say "No I don't accept that a God want's us all to cause the end of times".
Surely God wants us to progress on our own and not to blow the world to kingdom come.
Our Leader's who claim to be a devout whatever and follow whatever book they believe in are orchestrating the End of the world and its up to us all to say "No!!! lets forget all the old ways and bring in a new dawn of humanity where we just believe in ourselves and the planet we live on"
I don't mind all the good religion can do but why teach people it's inevitable that the world will end. It just means people will accept it more easily and not do anything about it when the signs are there.
Rant over cheers

I couldn't agree more with this. You're are right saying they look toward the end of the world, and you can be sure that if it doesn't come naturally they will try to cause it artificially just to prove their "holy book" if right. This is very dangerous.

Everyone can have a fullfiled spiritual life without having to follow a religion, this is not needed, never was needed (apart for the people seeking power (control over their follower).

It's ironic, the MOST INTOLERANT folks around these days are the anti-religious mind police.

Mankind will come to ultimate destruction if we tried to control people's minds and souls and erase their faith.

Please catch up with the times and learn some tolerance. If the Christians and Muslims and Jews can tolerate each other, why can't you folks tolerate them?

It's very disturbing.

Looks to me like you would like to see them controlled as well.

Yes, you can think this or that, but you cannot congregate or form an organization for like minded people whom share that belief?

Shall we open the history books and talk about all the big name tyrants that also shared this view to eliminate religions? Stalin, Mao, Hitler, etc?

There is a huge difference between ensuring there is a separation between Church and State *an ideal created and proposed by the Anabaptist's, a protestant Christian religion* and forcing that no one is allowed to be in a religion anymore even if they wanted to.

Huge difference between the two.
One is correct and reasonable, one is wrong and tyrannical.

I can see where you are coming from and do understand this side of the coin. With that said there is always going to be inspiration coming forth within the religious mind frame. It would be great if there was ONE God and ONE way as the teachings of love and inner self was something Buddha and Jesus taught. This love was taught so there would be peace among the people and they were inspired enough to show others "the way" (inner peace and or heaven).

They didn't teach that war was ok. They didn't teach that religion is ok. The way to reach God was within and this is now twisted by our sweet leaders with an intent to divide and control.

If EVERYONE would just try and see others as them self and not worry about being right...just love and do for others...we would live in peace. It is when you try and control others and their thoughts one is lead astray from the inner light and lead down a road of pure darkness.

This is what our leaders are doing. More people are becoming aware of the intentions and the disinformation that seems like it is leading us all on a road we may not be able to turn around on. A lot of people feel powerless.

I don't think a believer is wanting to see the "world end". The believer is wanting to see real change with others and see our society not trying to divide and conquer but love and be giving.

Really do you read newspapers? Do they really tolerate each other? No they don't they want each of the other religion destroyed and everyone to follow their own religion.
At the moment I would get rid of any religion that teaches about the end of the world because if you believe in one of those religions your more likely to accept or even welcome it.
Iam not saying we can't be spiritual or religous, we just gotta stop teaching people that the end of the world is coming.

tolerate ? Take a look at the world with the blinders off.. Christians, Jews and muslims are slaughtering each other daily over their primitive, barbaric religion.
World would definetly be a much better place without those 3 religions spreading death and misery...

A good example is Tony Blair saying he spoke with god when deciding whether to invade iraq.
www.dailymail.co.uk...
Also good old boy bush did the same
www.guardian.co.uk...

Really? I mean really? We are putting people into power which think like this?

Who is the next one who say's I spoke to God and he said Nuke this place.
We shouldnt have leaders who speak to God to decide the fate of world we should have leader's who look at the facts and make an intelligent decision based on those facts.

I am all for separation of church and state. But that's something different from religious freedom, which I also believe in.
We can have both.

Religion itself is benign. It is a collection of thoughts and ideas. It cannot harm anyone. What people DO in the name of religion is the problem. What PEOPLE do... But without religion, those same people would use something else to control others. The problem isn't religion, the problem is the human ego.
When a religion's followers want EVERYONE to believe as they do and they try to use force to make people comply. THAT'S the problem, not the religion. Religion is just a tool. Without it, those who wish to control would find another tool.

Religion is like a gun. Sitting there on the table, it's harmless. In the right hands, it can be an extremely helpful tool. In the wrong hands, a destructive tool. But it's about the hands, not the gun.

You're never going to get rid of religion. I'm sorry, I know it would be ideal, but it will never happen. You can force people to say they are not religious, but you can't force them to actually not be religious.

And I'll point out that Paganism doesn't want to see the world end. Not all religions are the same. You have a lot of research ahead of you if you want to keep this thread going without embarrassment.

Here's some thing the american founding fathers said about religion

The clergy converted the simple teachings of Jesus into an engine for enslaving mankind ... to filch wealth and power to themselves. [They], in fact, constitute the real Anti-Christ.
Thomas Jefferson

The Christian god can easily be pictured as virtually the same god as the many ancient gods of past civilizations. The Christian god is a three headed monster; cruel, vengeful and capricious. If one wishes to know more of this raging, three headed beast-like god, one only needs to look at the caliber of people who say they serve him. They are always of two classes; fools and hypocrites. To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves and abhors, is sinful and tyrannical.
Thomas Jefferson

Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear.
Thomas Jefferson

Of all the animosities which have existed among mankind, those which are caused by difference of sentiments in religion appear to be the most inveterate and distressing, and ought most to be deprecated. I was in hopes that the enlightened and liberal policy, which has marked the present age, would at least have reconciled Christians of every denomination so far that we should never again see the religious disputes carried to such a pitch as to endanger the peace of society.
George Washington, letter to Edward Newenham, October 20, 1792; from George Seldes, ed., The Great Quotations, Secaucus, New Jersey: Citadel Press, 1983, p. 726]

Accustom a people to believe that priests and clergy can forgive sins ... and you will have sins in abundance. I would not dare to dishonor my Creator's name by [attaching] it to this filthy book [the Bible].
Thomas Paine

So the founders of America didnt want the nation to be religious, they wanted state and religion seperate.

The threads attacking religious faith of all kinds and the overall push to attack in society in general is relentless. What is it about people who actually believe in something more than their own self that seems to drive others so crazy?

I wonder sometimes if those who hate religion with such a passion can just leave those who DO follow it, alone? Then I see another thread..or another media story of blind attack or lawsuits to remove the slightest HINT of anything representing a Faith. Any Faith....except Islam of course. That one does very obviously get a pass all the way around.

Would it be too much to ask that wishes and hopes for death to religion, those who follow it, and anything that so much as hints at it's existence take a little vacation for even a brief time? Those of us who ARE religious are getting about as much of the non-stop attack train as we can stomach. Oh..and I don't see a difference between attacking religion in general...a specific faith, or the individuals who follow it, anymore than say, people of alternative lifestyles can ever make a similar distinction....nor should any of us be expected to even try.

To put it another way......If we of Faith went on a rampage across web sites and the major media some day with the focused and unrelenting message of all Agnostics and Atheists are (insert favorite insult or degrading comment) and really need to be forced to think OUR way...should that be tolerated? I think not, to be honest. Having it AGAINST those who still respect some Faith is no different.

I said that I want to get rid off the major religions which have end of times prophecies in them or to change them so they don't.
I know wicca's don't have an end of times prophecies in them and Iam all for that.
Like I said in my OP we should bring in a dawn of Humanity and the Earth because they are the two things that will ensure our survival. Not a Book that has already set us up for a major fall.

Actually, one group of faith has done this. Multiple times. The crusades, the inquisition, the witch trials, etc. I guess everybody is still a little sore over it.

But I get your point. And as a whole, I agree.

You are never going to rid the world of all religions or spirituality. Humans are creatures of faith. It's an innate part of us. We will exercise faith in something. Whether it be god, science, or just a philosophy.

Read my posts... I am a spiritual person I believe there is a god but Iam saying the major religions have already set us up to destroy ourselves by putting apocalyptic stuff in them what people will try and make happen just because its written in their holy book.
I think morality is in us already and I dont need a book to tell me how to be a decent human being.
