I would be amazed if they are referring to a recent Russian nuclear blast since both Russia and the USA agreed on not being naughty anymore by stopping the tests/usage of nuclear weapons.

Actually, both follow international nuclear testing laws which ban all surface/atmospheric testing, limiting nuclear weapons testing to underground only. Doesn't mean they don't test anymore.

I seem to recall that the first clue Europe had about the Chernobyl disaster was when the nuclear plants in Europe started detecting radiation that wasn't coming from their own plants.

So if someone like Pakistan actually DID detect radiation, the first question I'd be asking is "did another nuclear power plant have an accident?", and not "who tested a nuclear bomb?"

It seems like we should stay away from unreliable sources in cases like this.

Anyone else notice it says Soviet instead of Russian or Russian federation?

The radiation has to travel over other countries to get to Pakistan from Russia. So why are they the first and only ones noticing it? If it is really a nuclear event would it be more likely the insurgents have gotten a hold of something?

I understand exactly what happened. It's so clear...

The Pakistani government made some atmospheric research during the year of 2011, and concluded that the old Soviet nuclear tests from the 70's and the 80's are still causing small levels of nuclear fallout in areas of Pakistan, with to danger to the population's health.

The announcement of the results of this research was made public by the Pakistani government in October 31, 2011.

It's so simple. No reason for panic.

The co-ordinates quoted, N 30° 14.975, E 67° 0.996 are for an area near Quetta, near to the Afganistan border, wonder which way the winds are travelling in that area, if the radioactivity is from the north (russia) it would have to "transit" afgan airspace.

Maybe the USSR isn't dead! We are all brainwashed!! ACK!!

It sounds like a mix of old info. Soviet/west Pakistan?

Then again, there was a high ranking soviet officer who came out and claimed that the USSR had faked its death so that the USA would go broke and then they would take over.

I don't remember where I read that, but lol....devils advocate!

Even if a nuclear event happened, especially over there, it would be covered up as much as possible. At least at first.
