Unfortunately the antipodes of Arkansas is somewhere in the Indian Ocean!

Thanks for listening. When I wrote that song, I had visions of going up to Greenbriar and shooting some video for a youtube spot. After the quakes died down it didn't seem so important. Besides, I didn't have someone to play the part of the evil gas driller or his victim. I gave the song to a dancer I know and asked if she could devise a country line dance for it. She said sure, if the song went viral.

I didn't realize this was only about hydraulic fracturing, sorry.

ONLY about fracking? So you just dismiss it because it is not a natural swarm?

If you worked for the USGS as you say then I am somewhat surprised, unless of course you worked in an area of USGS that had no interest in a subject that has been admitted by them to be the cause of earthquakes.

You obviously did not work in seismology or you would have commented I am sure.

May you be blessed with a fracking well in your back yard and may the swarms under your house be continuous.

This is bascially an ongoing discussion about Arkansas.
Here's a great source for links that were provided by everyone who wrote on that thread.

www.abovetopsecret.com...&addstar=1&on=12259867#pid12259867

So what's new?

The epicenter of this recent swarm has migrated to the north.
And, newest swarm is becoming more active not diminishing.

At the moment, things have stopped. But no one can say what this means.
So maybe I'm worried about nothing. Wish I could believe that.

If you've heard from the gas drillers hydraulic facturing doens't cause earthquakes, that's old news.

I don't have it handy, and I'm tied up. The British Geological Society says they do.

I hate GEE. I removing it from my computer.
Sorry, had to vent from frustration.

Really? You have the gall to insinuate I lied about working for the USGS? What’s next, I didn’t work in soil conservation because I don’t want to talk about pollution, erosion or farming? The only reason I brought it up was to let Robin know that I am familiar with the information linked to. I guess I could have said it differently but I was in a hurry. And I even said thank you.

I’m not the one who put “only” in capitals and take my words out of context. If you read it again you’ll see that is was explaining my confusion over the title of the thread and the actual subject. I also apologized.

Currently I am more concerned about the wells Nestle has nearby for it’s water bottling plant nearby. It is not having a good effect on us people with wells of our own. The newer laws don’t apply because they purchased an existing company and are covered by a grandfather clause.

So I guess I can return the favor and hope you are blessed with my problems too. I would add, if fracking is such an emotional issue that you feel the need to attack me. Maybe you should make a fracking sign and occupy something, it’s the ‘in’ thing you know.

Again, sorry for the confusion at my end and hope everyone has a great weekend.

Here's is my challenge. You've all seen the music video on fracking. I want any of you willing, to record that song on video, or own. I will personally watch it 1000 times. And I will do it. May take a bit. But in the end, I will have watched it, 1000 times. I will keep a journal if I must.

I'm gonna get my kid to do one if he will.

And you can have some addition verses where you tell everyone fracking causes quakes.

If nothing big happens in Arkansas and surrounding area, I will be the happiest person around about it.

Did you know over the summer that a house exploded near wear there is fracking and earthquakes. Water wells catch on fire as well. And explode. There has been another fish kill in Arkansas recently.

Don't worry about puterman. He's working on empathy. Believe it or not, he used to be worse. Let love solve the problem. Puterman has lots of strengths. But if I were King I wouldn't make him an ambassodor or diplomat. He'd be in charge of taxes.

So,Robin, when are you going to get that job as a consultant that slaps around the geologists for doing stupid things?

Great job on reporting the facts, man.

Robin, I am so glad you started this thread. I know you were debating whether to or not, so kudos to you for getting it started!

As research develops, I will be watching to see what this new swarm is doing. Yeah maybe under 4.0, but sustained low grade rumbles are not a good sign by any means.

I saw this article yesterday, www.msnbc.msn.com..., disturbed me to no end. They have no idea what they are getting themselves into. Modern gold rush it says. Clean and safe it says. Are you kidding me? The U.S. is so desperate for jobs that they will grasp at any kind of straw, and disguise and spin it to deceive the folks in real need being able to gain a sustainable living. (PuterMan would you look into your maps and see if there are inherent faults in that region?)

Just look at what has happened throughout Arkansas. The gas and oil industry has raped the land and pumped it full of stuff they do not necessarily have to disclose whats in the fracking fluid they inject. Thing is they aren't getting the yields that they expected, "its trapped inside of the rock". So lets pumps waste chemical and water and sand into it to pressure it out. Oh, it won't get into the water tables it will stay trapped in the bedrock and remain safe. And will be leaving the clean up and its costs to the locals. Even tests for the water tables aren't paid for by the companies. Last year there was another article about how a community couldn't afford the tests and the companies shrugged there shoulders and said it wasn't their problem. So test go unadministered, so there is no monitoring or expectation of end results because there is no baseline.

This is whats wrong with us! There is no sense of responsibility to preserve, protect, restore, or reclaim our environment. In these terms seeing the bigger picture just makes me want to upchuck. It is actually easier to concentrate on individual sites, such as this northern movement, and consider localized efforts of research and impact. There is so much wrong with this current state of affairs its coming to the point that we are starting to pay the piper, and who pays the majority of the bills, the working class! OK, there is part of my rant. Sorry Robin, but it just bewilders me that TPTB are more concerned in keeping their pockets lined steadily and pay the consequences later, than to ensure sustainable energy and have a world worth passing onto our grandchildren.

Occupy needs to pick up environmental/renewable/sustainable energy issues, we need all the help we can get. Sorry just a thought, not even following Occupy right now.

By the way your previous link to the resources is a great place to start if one hasn't researched fracking and Arkansas quakes before. There's enough for a dissertation in there. Question, do you or would you like for me to add references from this thread to the bibliography of resources.

Yes, you can keep adding links.
Here's an important one. Because it's now a fact. Fracking causes earthquakes.

"Controversial gas drilling did cause a series of earthquakes along the Lancashire coastline, a report today confirmed"

www.dailymail.co.uk... .html

In Texas, studies are finding a link between fracking and earthquakes.

www.kutnews.org...

sacurrent.com...

I'm posting an opposing opinion for balance.

www.ksat.com...

They want to frack in New Zealand near - you guessed it.

www.radionz.co.nz...

michiganmessenger.com...

In Canada too.

But this all is back burner stuff. Arkansas is ground zero. The swarm is building, and migrating. Meaning it could be bigger and more energetic than thought.

I'd hope to shake some people out of their slumber. I'm sure they think it's old news. But there's been new fish kills. And now a new swarm.

It's sad. If one popped off at 4+M again, it might get more attention. I just want a couple of moderate sized ones so people start taking this seriously and put a moritorium on all fracking within the state.

They are fracking on an active faultline. This is stupid. This is complete negligence and shortsightedness.

I couldn't wait until the big one hits. What am I going to do then? They're won't be anything left to do.

If it's going to happen, I want people to be alert.
And if we can stop frack, maybe we haven't gone too far already.

I feel time is running short.

This just sucks. I am writing about the most important issue facing America. Energy. And it's dire consequences. And this thread gets beat by occupiers stealing water. Ron Paul. And some other stuff.

We, and the media always seem to chase after the disaster and observe teh destruction.
Wouldn't it be nice if we instead, saw the danger and ran to prevent it, or minimize it?
Nah, I guess things don't work that way.

No one's going preform a song. I tried.

If something big does happen. I'm done writing.

Well 'we' know that the New Madrid fault is just sitting there winding up for a big release.
The ultimate kicker will be if it triggers due to fracking... and before the Nov 2012 elections. (Or even Nov. 2011)

All the President would need is evidence that fracking caused the New Madrid Fault to trigger and that he could lay it right at the Petroleum Fueled (financed) GOP. (Hell it would work for any politician.)

How is that for a conspiracy? Let the GOP take the gut punch for their 'ecological disastrous oil policies'....

Or conversely have the GOP sabotage BP's well in the gulf again... and say "It's Obama's Fualt for letting BP back in."

---------

Back to topic, I read the write up on the New Madrid Joint exercise about the 'damage' caused to the Midwest. 15 nuclear plants being shut down due to 'damage' or destroyed was enough to make me cringe.

The fact that we have a 'man made source of quakes' in that region does not make me comfortable by any means.

While I do not hold any faith, or prescribe merit to any prophet of doom, some of the maps I've seen about 'safe places to live' make me slightly comfortable that I live there already....

Especially with the amounts of stupidity in the leadership of this country.

It's the new madrid fault acting up. We always get quakes, but theyre usually under 4.0. Nothing to really worry about, its not like were sitting on a plate tectonic in arkansas. The gas getting into the ground water is exactly why i am on city water even though my home is capable of having well water. I don't trust the government enough to use my well, or the corporations for that matter.

Can someone explain a little clearer what is going on or causing the earthquakes is there a fault line there?

In St Louis I have seen several commercials during the World Series (expensive!) about how great this new source of natural gas is. The commercials never say what or how the "energy" is extracted. Just that it is environmentally safe and economical.

This put me on high alert, along with a proliferation of expensive new billboards touting the great tourism of New Madrid.

This week, the arterial roads and highways are being fortified and big expanses are being replaced ASAP. Having been here 20 years, the insane amount of road work is weird. They are taking chunks out of the road and putting in reinforcement bars. These roads are less than 5 years old.

The microquakes are causing trouble in subtle ways, cracks in brickwork, popped windows. Many people are noticing.
