Actually they use the time off to campaign, raise money to campaign with, and in general do everything in their power to retain their seats. Because that is the most important thing. Retain your seat at all costs. Actually doing their job is secondary (hell that's probably way too generous on their actual priority list) to Election season.

This man speaks the truth, indeed a very sad situation.

Well, at least it gives them less time to work on taking away women's rights, and pounding their drums against alternative genders, and championing putting God back into the government, when the founding fathers clearly intended for Church and State to remain separate. A Christian-based America would be no better than Sharia Law. Just different people dressed in $1500 suits and ties, taking our money, and telling us when, where, and how to worship... and how many children to have, whether we can afford them or are well enough to carry them, and who can be allowed to give the already-thrown-away children loving homes.

When I moved to Texas in the late 1970's, they had an expression there:

"Neither man nor beast is safe while the Texas Legislature is in session!"

Does anyone believe the same is not true of Congress?

Ron Paul has the only answer...pay them the average American wage - $39,000.00 per year.

Im in Texas and know that saying well. We know who these people are , liars in fancy suits. Congress should be for VOLUNTEERS, not a career. It should be for those whom are willing to help the fellow man , not get rich. And there should be a term limit as the president has. Lifetime career politics breeds evil and greed, even if they started out with good intentions. Maybe then the corporations and lobbyists will not have such a stronghold.
