Marines around the world are outraged by the injuries inflicted by police on Scott Olsen at Tuesday's Occupy Oakland protests. Olsen is in a medically-induced coma after getting hit in the head by a police projectile.
The following picture is taken from the Reddit thread "How I feel, as a United States Marine, about what occurred in Oakland."
This man is not alone. In the five hours since the thread went up there have been over 600 comments.

(WARNING: Slightly Graphic)

I have no comment really I just wanted to share the news I saw on Reddit. But to start a conversation I'll copy and paste a few good talking points from the Reddit thread I found this story in:

illiterati:
I agree. It's just harder for him to be painted as a leftist loon and be dismissed as 'deserving' it. Your country has created an internal image of vets fighting for freedom and being heroes, when one of them is shot for exercising the very freedoms he fought for, it should catch peoples attention and scare the # out of them.

shesayeth:
This will get buried, I'm sure, but I have to say this. I am a cop. I believe in order and peace and respect. What I saw on this video made me cry. I have thus far avoided watching any footage of the protests because I know people hate police and I didn't believe it. Now I do. I see no reason for this, no logic behind this. This is not what I stand for, not what America stands for. This is wrong, and I feel like as a police officer I should apologize to all of you. There are no protests going on where I work, I have not been involved in any of this, but I'm so sorry.

Actually I just thought of something to say. If you live anywhere near Oakland. Go to the protest. Go to cityhall. Make them know that we the people DEMAND an apology for the actions of the police officers. What was on AnonOps today said this:

In Response To The Oakland Shooting Of Scott Olsen OccupyMARINES Request The Following:

The GOP Cowards Responsible For Influencing This Event Be Brought To Justice. Track Names And Photos Of Each And Email Them To Us
Identify The 300 OPD Riot Officers By Name, Photo, And Badge Number With Boots On The Ground Engaging In Illegal Excessive Force Acts Against Peaceful Americans For Prosecution.
Identify The Officer Responsible For Harming Scott Olsen By Name And Photo For Prosecution.
The Honorable Resignation Of Oakland Mayor Jean Quan And Acting Police Chief Howard Jordan.
A Public Apology From California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. For The Unlawful Injury Of Our Brother Scott Olsen.

We Fully Intend To Make An Example, Leaglly And Peacefully, Of The Corwards Associated With Harming An American Veteran. We Will Not Stop Until Our Aforementioned Demands Are Met In Their Entirity.

The man getting hit by a projectile is really messed up.

However, what's MORE messed up is that they let him lay there injured, and didn't even try to help him.

What's EVEN MORE MESSED UP is that they threw a flash bang/tear gas canister at the people who were trying to help him.

Whats even MORE MOORRE messed up is that the cop who did it will probably not even be reprimanded.

It's sickening. I mean there was a video a few weeks back I saw it was called like "We won't move." and it tried to draw comparisons between the OWS protests and the Egyptian protests. Back then I said that was stupid but this is one step closer to making them eerily similar.

what's even MORE MORE MOOOOREE messed up is that if someone were to drag that cop over the fence and beat him to a pulp, that someone would be looked at like a criminal.

Improperly governed police officers are running rampant these days. Maybe someone will shoot them back one day and they'll chill out. Oh wait, that's already happened. How do you educate a pig about values?

Hey, he put himself out there. Was hit.

The fact he is ex military shouldn't even play into this. It could have been anyone.....

That should be the disturbing factor in all of this....it could have been ANY us citizen!!!

I know I'M outraged. Getting hit by a rubber bullet is one thing, but for the cops to throw grenades at the group that was providing Olsen aid is downright criminal. The brutality I've been seeing lately is leading me to the position that it won't be too long before the people start fighting back.

I think the cops are biting off more than they can chew.

I really hope "justice" comes to those responsible. but i don't really know what "justice" is or should be.

do you think the marines are closer during their tour, or closer when they get back? Closer as in seeing each other as family.

Not the way things are going, I reckon. Would more likely be considered a vigilante hero and assisted.

The US Marines were created to protect the Republic, not the American people.

The 3rd Marines were spit on by Americans in California as they came home from Vietnam.

Marines were treated like lower life forms and back THEN when they tried to get what was done to them fixed.....the Politicians, News, and Federal Government labeled all those formers Marines....DRUNKARDS.

70% of THOSE Marines are now all DEAD. Agent Orange got 'em plus their hearts gave out because their country abandoned them.....hated them.

Marines get killed in their own country...by their own jack booted cops.....every day. Many just take their own lives....every single DAY.

Every Marine knows....its action....not words that get things done.

Well it is obvious to me as to what sort of a bloody reality we are living in. This has got to change.

This must be the catalyst for a better world. Peaceful R3VOLUTION...

This Anon Group are proving to be some intelligent organization working towards a better world.

Bring justice to Scott Olsen and let there be justice everywhere.

Once you are part of the Brotherhood, it doesn't make any difference; every Marine is your brother. Always.

I wish these marines every success in their quest for justice on behalf of one of their own. It certainly is heartening to see that there are still those in this world with some idea what honor is, and have the will to act on it.. for no other reason, than it is the honorable thing to do. I wish more felt the same.

I also wanted to say I applaud the restraint exhibited in your response and request for justice.. it's something I'm struggling mightily with atm. : / much respect.

Absolutely.

Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, it does not matter.

Once in the ranks always in the ranks, and brothers forever.

great to hear.
if this guy dies i dont doubt that would spark the powderkeg.. but then again it wouldnt suprise me if people sat down and took it considering how many people just dont care about their rights anymore.
to me this whole event wether it be in australia or america or anywhere has shown that western nations are in no way free (not that i didnt know this before). but its now obvious and people still dont care, they still sit down with their eyes closed. what the hell?
are people really that oppressed?

I love that the Oakland police department is still denying their use of flashbangs, even after the surface of so many videos that clearly show otherwise. Most news stories about this particular incident quote the statement from the department that claims no flashbangs were used. Since evidence of the contrary is so damning, it's as if the MSM knows that they have to acknowledge it now, but they're being so careful not to flat out say it.

One of my favorites, from the Guardian:

A group of up to 10 protesters gather around him, but a police officer can be seen throwing a device close to the group which then explodes with a bright flash and loud bang, scattering the protesters.

You might be partially correct.

However, I do not see the Marines letting it go, those guys are a little harder to intimidate.
