Just as the title states.

I love the irony of this. LOVE IT.

Occupy Wall Street Movement Angry at Freeloaders and Homeless Invading the Park

communities.washingtontimes.com...

"It's turning into us against, them," says a 36-year-old Occupy Boston protester quoted by the Boston Herald's Howie Carr. Wait, wasn't that the idea? Not exactly. It turns out that when he says "them," the guy is referring not to billionaire Jewish bankers but street vagrants. "They come in here and they're looking at it as a way of getting a free meal and a place to crash, which is totally fine, but they don't bring anything to the table at all."

The same is true in New York, where, according to the Daily News, "Zuccotti Park has become a haven for the homeless," who are abandoning shelters and camping out at the park, "enticed by the allure of free food and a community of open-minded people." But as in Boston, open-mindedness goes only so far. "We have compassion toward everyone. However, we have certain rules and guidelines," says Lauren Digioia, 26, who belongs to the "sanitation committee":

"If you're going to come here and get our food, bedding and clothing, have books and medical supplies for no charge, they need to give back," Digioia said. "There's a lot of takers here and they feel entitled."

As is often the case, the Onion anticipated all of this, in a 2002 article titled "Marxists' Apartment a Microcosm of Why Marxism Doesn't Work":

The filthy, disorganized apartment shared by three members of the Amherst College Marxist Society is a microcosm of why the social and economic utopia described in the writings of Karl Marx will never come to fruition, sources reported Monday. . . .

The situation is familiar to Donald Browning, author of Das Kouch: A History Of College Marxism, 1970-1998.

"When workers willfully become less productive, the economy of the household suffers," Browning said. "But in a society where a range of ability naturally exists, someone is bound to object to picking up the slack for others and end up getting all pissy, like Josh does."

According to Browning, the group's lack of productivity pervades their lives, with roommates encouraging each other to skip class or work to sit on the couch smoking pot and talking politics. . . .

The lack of funds and the resulting scarcity breeds not only discontent but also corruption. Although collectivism only works when all parties contribute to the fullest extent, Foyle hid the existence of a $245 paycheck from roommates so he would not have to pay his back rent, in essence refusing to participate in the forced voluntary taxation that is key to socialism. Even worse, Dorff, who is entrusted with bill collection and payment, recently pocketed $30, a theft he claimed was "for the heating bill" but was put toward buying drinks later that night.

Where are you going with this??

I don't see an issue with them asking for a little in return for their generosity..

This whole thing reminds me of a King of the Hill episode when a bunch of hippies invaded a state park, Phish and Wildlife.

The "bring something to the table" remark especially.

Sharing turned into mooching which turned into theft.

Easy hes trying to imply that they are hyppocrites for not wanting the homeless to use their things when they are advocating for a more just distribution of wealth.

The bright side, it is another body out there and there is safety in numbers. Embrace the positive.

Now, for the freeloaders it is simple, just cut them off. Put them to work, there are things that can be done, like help keeping the area clean. Put them to work doing housekeeping chores in exchange for a meal and a place to put their head at night.

I hope the protesters can see how to effectively turn this "problem" into a positive thing and use to our advantage, it is very easy to make this situation a win-win for everyone on site.

What can I add to the OP, oh, I remember, well with 17 million of American citizens unemployed and many been like that for already a few years, I guess you can call them free loaders, what else can they be. Right?

If I have been without a job for that long I will be looking for free food too, If I have lost my dream house after losing my job I will be homeless and looking for a free place to sleep too.

See the irony. I guess not, just free loaders nothing else, just filthy homeless. . . Welcome to the new America.

I think I understand where he was going with this. People who are protesting the 1% not spreading the wealth, are in fact complaining about the homeless and freeloaders expecting OWS to spread their wealth. Yes indeed, how ironic.

People who look down at the homeless are not my favorite type of people.

Why not lead by example and help the less fortunate as you would wish you would be helped if you were in their shoes.

People these days.

Probably, but that's not what I'm getting from the protesters side..

I'm reading them as saying "Fine, take what you want but give something back"..
Sounds reasonable to me and as someone else has mentioned, they could help clean up or aid the protesters some other way..

Btw, neither one of those links worked for me. Did they work for anyone else?

Oh I totally agree, if you are going to benefit from the collective you have to work with the collective imo.

S&F, this is truly rich.

As simply as I can boil it down: OWS expect others to have their stuff forcibly taken by the govt and shared with them, but they do not want to freely share their stuff with those less fortunate.

I agree. But in essence they are not "spreading" the wealth by asking for help. No different that the rest of America not wanting to give handouts, but instead asking those who receive to "help" the rest of society.

Anyone care to give odds on how long it takes for racism to take hold over this issue?

Indeed. And what is the major complaint right now about the camps? The filth. If these people intend to come and take residence in the middle of a protest they should at least be part of the protest, not a convenient thing to complain about.

And for the millionth time. They ARE NOT PROTESTING ABOUT WEALTH DISTRIBUTION. They are protesting because that 1% isn't paying their fare share, it really is THAT simple and no amount of butthurt and complete and utter BS the like of which other users are spewing here, will change that fact.

The core reason has been explained since day one. Just because you conservatives REFUSE to listen doesn't mean they have no voice, they do. There is a problem that needs to be addressed and we've sat by for a long time waiting for the government to fix it. What was their solution? Take YOUR TAX DOLLARS, yes, you conservatives had YOUR MONEY taken and given to the banks because they gambled and lost in a ponzi fraud scheme.

This is where I just lose my mind. I get it, most conservatives view the world through a filter that only allows them to look at how things affect THEM, the conservative talks in terms of ME. Don't take MY money, why do you want ME to pay for your life.

But it's your money being wasted, if these crooks had to pay like the rest of us there would be no reason for the government to be taxing YOU so much.

Unless you are a financier or a CEO you are the 99%.

Anyone care to give odds on how long it takes for racism to take hold over this issue?

I'm quite amazed it hasn't already. Look at Oakland, majority of the population is Black or Hispanic. Look at the entire protests as a whole, the poor are demanding that the rich live by the same rules they do, and by that you have to take into account the fact that the "poor" is made up mostly of minorities.

It really is only a matter of time IMO. One way or another this movement will be derailed.

Well you suck at boiling. Keep repeating that same bogus talking point, maybe if you say it enough times and loudly enough it might become true.

OWS expects the same laws and regulations that apply to the 99% apply to the 1%, they do not. It really is that simple. They don't want your money. They want you to pay the same proportionately as they do. Most of us do, but the 1% that doesn't accounts for more lost revenue than the entire 99% is paying in.

The people who need the tax breaks to survive in this joke of an economy not only don't get the break, they get higher taxes and more IRS audits because the government has basically given up trying to make the 1% actually pay up.

Here's a great example and I'm sure I could find a news story to reference....

corporate CEO evades his taxes for years, totaling millions of dollars in lost tax revenue for the government. by some miracle the IRS decides to audit him, they catch the fraud and fine him slightly, or simply strip down most of the charges and settle on something minor.

Now you go ahead and cheat on your taxes for a few years and see what happens when you get caught.

FEDERAL GOD DAM PRISON that's what.

Amazing how the articles I read about OWS, the term "spreading the wealth" comes out at some point. So people are getting that message. It has nothing to do with conservative, liberal or anything else. It has to do with the message that is coming out from these groups. It has to do with OWS not having a clearly defined agenda. So before you go and rip someone, maybe the OWS movement should get their message clear and concise. Because until they do, most people will view them as freeloaders expecting the government to "spread" the wealth.

Yep, I just love seeing the innate human characteristic of Capitalism coming out.

"If you want to have, you must provide"

Sounds very Conservative to me.

Funny.

Actually no there are not more poor minorites than poor whites. Poor whites just dont get the media attention that minorities do. Plus poor whites tend to live in rural areas vs cities and all that other good stuff. It really just comes down to numbers, even though the percentage of poor whites are less because whites are the majority of the population the number of actual poor would be more than a single minority category.
