it's called an I-TIN (Income Tax Identification Number) a short simple form where all they need is 2 forms of valid identification takes about 6 weeks to get this number and can be used in replace of a social security number.

.i for one am appalled by the lack of empathy for the immigrant. WHAT PART OF YOU WERE ONCE AN IMMIGRANT YOURSELF DO YOU NOT GET, and moreso than those you call immigrants now a days. YOU CROSSED AN OCEAN and these people cross a river. it is in moments like this i am ashamed of the american populace. you want to make it an even playing field take away welfare and take away any type of government help ACROSS THE BOARD. nobody should get government help not you not me not illegals. NOBODY. if you can't run your life for yourself responsibly then maybe you should figure out why.

healthcare should be free. end of story. all people are bestowed with the inalienable right of LIFE. how would you like to be ripped from your family because you were paralyzed and you didn't have a piece of paper that said you belonged to a country. WTF. get the heck outta here.

amen.

it's really is disheartening to see some of the replies on here. the whole world is going to pot, thanks to corrupt governments and organisations, the only thing we have left is our humanity. yet it seems that's slowly going as well.

if the shtf, i hope to god that the people that survive are the ones WITH compassion and empathy. if not i think i'll probably kill myself.

this is our WORLD, our humanity, our future and our responsibility. all you americans moaning about this, how about you start standing up for justice and what's right for a change, things would never have got this bad if you'd all done that in the first place.

shameful, absolutely shameful.

i'm totally disgusted with some of the posters in this thread. and thank god for the few that still know the difference between right and wrong.

No matter who he is, or who he was with, laws are laws. Regardless of whether or not he has a family now, he shouldn't have come over illegally.

Victimless crimes really?

I tore my rotator cuff, no insurance, no way to pay for the surgery. It took me two years of working with it every day to regain functionality. I can almost get it straight over my head now. I ripped my knee, thought I broke it. Broke down and paid for xrays - not broken. The doctor said without surgery to repair it I'd never walk on that leg again. Right! I guarantee you can't tell which knee I injured by watching me walk. That took a year to heal but I used it through the pain and tears and now its nearly as good as new. I broke my finger working on the motor of a Chevy pickup. I set it myself, immobilized it and kept on working.

That's the choices of Legal, Natural Born CITIZENS without insurance.

I'm a legal, natural born citizen. I shouldn't be below illegals on the list of "you qualify for help". None of us should. But, be a US citizen and try to get the help illegals get. Not gonna happen. I say deport 'em all and let God sort it out.

and what's worse is that these people are so happy to pay their taxes. they absolutely love doing their part in the system. they don't moan and groan because they have to pay a broken system. they are happy that they can give back to a system that helped them better their lives. no doubt there are bad apples but tell me when that isn't the case. these people LOVE america and what it stands for and what it has done for their families.

FFS America wake the hell up already, and stop being so greedy. oooohh pooor me. i live in the greatest country in the world, but i have difficulties sometimes. life is so bad. dude go move to africa if you think it's that bad.

The horror! Oh Noooooo!!!!!!! Yeah, like a rapist getting torn from his family, or a murderer being tossed into prison for life. Bleh! Get a life. This isn't about compassion, it's about the LAW! This guy made a conscious CHOICE to BREAK THE LAW and come here.

What's about the law? If certain laws clashed with your own values, or if they put you in a position of disadvantage, you would not be so adamantly supportive of them.

'This isn't about compassion, it's about the law' sounds like something you'd hear a cheap cop spout out in a B Movie. Anyone could just as easily say 'it's not about the law, it's about chocolate cake.'

Perhaps, he chose to enter the US knowing it was illegal - but that is definitely different from choosing to break the law. He probably couldn't afford a life for himself or a family back home and chose the only option going.

If someone rapes and murders a child, should they be given compassion just because they have a family? If someone comes into your home and steals your possessions, is this forgiven because he went and got married the next day? In my view, NO!

Neither of those examples are relevant. You're seriously comparing rape and child murder to being an illegal immigrant? It isn't about the fact that he's married, someone pointed out that he's married to a legal resident of the US (correct me if I'm wrong on that, not sure).

Anyway, we all know he isn't going to be taken care of in Mexico if he's sent back. Those calling for compassion are in the right. Make the bait shop pay his bills and let him stay. Or hell, let him swap nationalities with some psycho if necessary and send that dude to Mexico.

I bet you'd be in favour of the US 'helping out' people from other countries if there's money or political influence to be gained.

then blame the system that made it that way. don't blame the innocent man who was just trying to make a living and better his life. shame on you for missing the point.

I was under the impression that deportation wasn't an option? As much as I may feel for him, this isn't his country and he can't expect to stay here and get a free ride. He should've done it right to begin with.

No, sir, I was born within the United State's borders. Therefore, I am a legal citizen. I'm not sure where you are getting that a person can not run their life responsibly because they do not want illegal aliens squatting in their territory. It is honorable that someone wants only citizens of that country living within their borders. You are wrong on so many levels; healthcare should only be for a nation's legal residents, not a person who selfishly comes over and destroys the countries infrastructure from within. He can take his family with him back to Mexico. And there is no "Right of Life"(?). Just because something is nice or helpful to humanity does not mean it a right.

how are they destroying "the countries infrastructure from within"

please do ellaborate, because i think it is you that do not understand them and not the other way around. if your ancestors hadn't immigrated here (while facing the exact same problems they are today) you wouldn't be here end of story.

it is in fact the very system "they are trying to destroy" that has caused itself to collapse on itself. you don't want them to have benefits over you. ask your politicians to take those benefits away from everyone. there is no reason a poor person should have more choices than you. which is exactly what happens. the same benefits an illegal immigrant has are the exact same benefits a person who don't/cant support themselves has. why should someone who refuses to work have these same benefits? tell me that? they're US citizens so it's a different story? come one don't make yourself look hypocritical.

I agree. Bottom line, he did something illegal and took a risk knowing that he had no safety net. He fell, it was his choice, now he has to deal with it.

Ehhh, once he is stable they can just release him back into the wild.
All they "have" to do is "Do no harm".
If his.... common law wife loves him, she'll take care of him.
But at least he will not be taking a US citizens job!
The hospital has not lost any money at all, these places have more tax loopholes and overcharge the paying customers so bad it all makes up in the end.

Hmmm.
Neat thought.
You a mathmetician?
Ok say you pay your taxes all along on time via your check and get a refund the next year.
Or you avoid paying and just pay the bill at the 11th hour.
Who is making out better?
I would suggest the person who got full use of their money and only paid the necessary amount.
The person who overpaid from every check, then got a refund has lost all of that interest when their money is in the Gumment hands and never got full use of it.
You are a tax expert?
Don't get me wrong, I am not.
I'm a retired Plumber, but some things are just common sense.

there is no interest on income tax. so I'm not quite sure what you are referring to. i for one would rather have them take out extra money from my check so i can get a bigger bonus during income tax season. I take it as a risk free yearly savings account.

i for one know that when income tax season comes around i see $$$ because i know i'm getting a large "christmas bonus" as i like to call it. i would hate to be one of those people who know income tax is coming and hoping they saved up enough money so they can pay to $1k - $6k (on avg.) they are going to pay.

One is Legal. Came here legal, aided by the rules to do so. They are welcome with open arms.

The other is Illegal. Came here illegally, and ignored the rules. They should be turned away and deported.

Francisco Martinez said he does not want to return to Mexico and leave his common-law wife, Brandi Collen Valderrama, a U.S. citizen, and their 6-month-old son.

Martinez, 37, of Bacliff, broke his back Aug. 17 after falling off a ladder while working on the roof of a bait shop where he was employed.

UTMB doctors saved his life, but he is paralyzed from the chest down, can barely move his hands and needs special care.

The problem for UTMB is that Martinez is undocumented and has no hope of qualifying for workman's compensation or Medicaid. UTMB is forced to bear the expense of Martinez's care until another place can be found for him to go.

----------------------------------

Our policy should be to deport all illegals - no exceptions. Let his own country pay for his medical care.

Cool...So as long as they are not in the country legally, we don't have tot reat them like humans!

It's awesome that this AMerican bait shop rolled the dice and hired someone for likely less than minimum wage and didn't have to worry about him being insured in any fashion or getting hurt on the job!!

Get em cheap and if they get hurt or die, just burry em or ship them out!

We should have illegals cleaning up Super-Fund sites! We can save on all that protection gear!

I wonder...what does the Bait Shop owner have to say?

Just awesome when we have a good excuse to abandon all that uncomfortable "humanity" nonsense.

Here is hoping you get lots of stars and pats on the back...just awesome, like cheering for someone to die at a GOP debate!!
