Well check this out you can buy your own ceritficate here

Master mason certificate

Pretty wild huh, you could show it off to your friends, or use it to get into meetings haha

It is interesting to note that it is only 10 USD, I might get one just to hang on the wall...
Kinda makes being a mason not so special

How does it make it any less special?

You can buy fake medals of honor
You can buy eagle scout patches
You can buy 4th degree Koc certificates
You can buy fake sport trophies

Its what you did to earn it, and other people knowing that you earned it that matters.

The reward is usually, a peice of paper or a chunk of iron.
Not much value there...

quoted for truth. You can give a million examples such as college degrees, recognition awards, etc but the reward is never the piece of paper. The reward is inside your mind always.

Aye. Of course some cannot see the connections within the trinity - in this case, the link between the conceptual, and the "real" or physical.

This thread was kind of meant as humourous, but apparently this is such a serious subject...
I am so sorry for making light of your guys is love for this stuff....

Also what kind of garbage is that,"the reward is in the earning of it"
seriously, that is something you tell children like santa is real....

Maybe garbage for those among us who have never had to work hard for, or earn, anything in life.

There are folks that can set you up with a whole new identity, complete with a credit record, MBA and transcripts to match for $1500. I'm sure they wouldn't mind throwing in a Master Mason certificate for another $10 and probably even a ring for another $30. Hell, I bought a belt and belt buckle at the flea market yesterday for $30, nobody asked for my dues card.

However, you might look a little silly showing up with an antique certificate, or even a modern certificate, when everyone else has dues cards, LOL!

On top of that, once in a while someone will "try" you at the door. If you've never sat in Lodge with any of the members present, then you will also answer a series of questions out of a book.

I went to AugustusMasonicus's lodge one day and I did not even have to recite anything. I did tell them where my lodge was at and they made me sign this funny book, something my lodge doesn't do. One fella did give me the grip though and I usually have a hard time feeling these things without looking at my hand. Of course only at the opening did I have to say anything. It was my first time traveling so I was kind of disappointed not to recite my masonic information.

In Massachusetts, you do get a Master Mason's diploma much like the one pictures -- although not exactly. It is usually found hanging on the wall of Master Masons What gets you into a lodge, on the other hand, is your current dues card (of the correct design for the year), issued under the hand of the Secretary of the lodge with the seal of the lodge affixed thereto. That, combined with passing an examination, will get you into a lodge.

As for examinations, I suspect that any Mason could spot a faker pretty quickly simply by noticing that the faux-brother isn't familiar with Masonic culture (protocol, etiquette, customs, forms of address, etc.). Even the "official examination" probably wouldn't be enough in a cautious and attentive lodge.

I've gotten into Lodges for the first time without being examined also, and it is disappointing. I always play it off, because I usually know someone who knows someone, or somebody has heard my name before, etc. At my Lodge, if you haven't sat in an open Lodge with a brother who is present, then you will be examined. I wish they were all so strict.

We also have a little bit of office politics in my district, and some brothers are not welcome in our Lodge, so they are either just flat refused, or they are examined beyond their expertise, LOL! Maybe its just us?

Guess you've never had to work for anything. Pity it is, really. If the piece of paper is what you think defines a Mason, you're oh so sadly mistaken.

I was in a Lodge in Halifax last month, a Lodge I'd been in touch with frequently through the Internet while doing research, a Lodge that my grandfather had been a member of.

They still did a board of trial on me.

The sad thing about the OP's attitude is that I don't think he actually realises that one could have all the Masonic gear in the world and have Googled the handshakes, passwords, etc. and pass yourself off successfully as a Mason but be completely missing out on the most important reason for being a Mason. If your honour is that feeble, your lack of earned bona fides as a true Mason would out you in short order

Man there are alot of masons here.

I do understand that the path you choose is a way of life.
I don't understand why everyone keeps saying I have never worked for anything in my life.

None of you know me. Not that I am offended, I just now find masonry less appealing as a whole now.

Actually the only one of you masons who acted like a gentleman was the FM.
He took it as lighthearted, and didn't try to insult my character.

Okay no one got that walking into a Mason lodge with a big MM certificate (that takes a lifetime to get) stating you were a mason would be humorous.

Everyone just focused on the not so special part... obviously you guys think its special, but some of us don't.
Not inteded as an insult, I just don't care if someone is a mason. We are all human, except the politicians of course.

My certificate got me into the Baskin Robins, where I was able to taste the secret 33rd flavor.

just as gullible as the idiots who payed someone

Well, you clearly cared enough to start a thread about it. Did you honestly not think that the relatively few Masons on ATS might take it as yet another shot? I mean being called closet Satanists and baby eaters and fomentors of the NWO and yadayadayada can make a guy a little quick to respond especially when the sense of 'humour' doesn't lend itself well to Internet transmission.

Masonry isn't special per sé but even a casual, passing respect for others in general would go a long way to countering the intolerance that too often rears its ugly head around the world.

Mayhap as you might give that a passing thought.

Fitz

I posted the thread to add content to ATS that wasn't there previously. Not because it was masonry related, I just happened on the information.

I didn't disrespect them. When I said it made it less special I meant like being able to get secret decoder rings only by being a member. In Jest.

I didn't know we weren't allowed to make jest of some aspects of masonry because they are sensitive.
I didn't say they ate babies, in fact I didn't even know they ate babies...

Well I didn't realise there were any really.

I extremly rarely post in this section. Mostly because I figure all the mason stuff ahs been done to death.

I figure it like this.

The Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. A.A.O.N.M.S. is an anagram for "A MASON"

source

So I figure it started in an arabic nation. The templars went there, and came back with some knowledge, or light.
Having discovered this light they were Illuminated. Born were the Illuminati.

Not that I care it's just a logical deduction.

Well wouldn't you look like a tool if you showed up at a lodge with a fake certificate that doesn't match that states certificates! Seriously, they are different in every state, and the Grand Lodge, not the lodge you are raised in, gives the certificate.

Also, you should know, certificates are not considered proof of membership....

The only membership certificates I have received was from the Masonic Society, Order of the Temple, and the Scottish Rite.
