So I was just wondering, how much disease does this floating ball of debris have floating along with it? All of the dead bodies, nuclear material, and filth will be coming ashore one of the worlds most beautiful areas. It seems to me that attempts would be made to contain this long before now! I tell you I have not eaten seafood since the events in japan for this very reason. This seafood is feeding off of stuff like this and living in this filth it can not be healthy!

I understand what you mean. When Fukushima happened, we immediately bought a ton of fish for the coming months, years in some cases...

So it passed that big island of plastic floating in the Pacific?... Such a sad thing...

EDIT: After watching the video... Poor Hawaii... It looks tiny compared to the size of the debris field.

Man, I wonder if it has any radiation within it? Even if not, it sounds pretty foul and yea, I hope someone addresses it before it reaches Hawaii or mainland. Is it the only debris pile out there? So who is responsible for cleaning it up and the costs? Or I should say who will volunteer to clean it up? It would be a costly endeavor for sure, especially if it is contaminated with radiation.
Thanks for the info.

ETA: Out of curiosity I wanted to compare 20 m tons to the 'plastic island' we heard about floating around in the ocean, the size of Texas, and it is estimated to be 5 to 10 million tons, so this is double that, granted plastic is lighter than this debris, but still 20m tons is a lot!

I guess it was going to wash up somewhere, but this is going to be a massive environmental issue for Hawaii if it does wash up there.

I would imagine the majortiy of the bodies would have decomposed or had been eaten by marine life, but still there would probably be bodies in buildings that had been taken out to sea.

It won't be TEPCO, that's for sure... Their credit was lowered after the tsunami... Japanese government?
I think every PTB will try to forget that one...
