It's worse than that, He's dead Jim.
I'm a single renter with no dependents, no health insurance (can't afford it) and never married.
Three years ago my tax return, state and federal combined, was $1300.
Two years ago by return was $700.
Last year my return was $450.
In the last three years at my current job I've had several raise totaling $1.25.
Yet, my take home net weekly is $1 more than it was three years ago working and getting paid the same hours.
Living paycheck to paycheck is not just an expression to me, it is a fact of life.
While I take home essentially the same pay for the last three years, the cost of everything from heat to bread has gone up. By the end of each week I
have nothing in my checking account, I have no savings to draw from.
At the start of last month I lost my mother and as a result, lost a week of work and subsequent pay.
I now struggle to keep my electricity on, paid my rent late and as the temperature begins to drop with the New England fall coming in I know I cannot
even begin to think to turn on the heat.
As an off note, it seems in this country a single male gets penalized, particularly if not a homeowner. Assistance is either twice as difficult to get
our just non-existent.
But it's all good, look at all the corporations reporting record profits.
