Hey All,

Gettysburg: Trostle Farm, July, 2006:

Trostle Farm, July 1863

The above is a famous Matthew Brady shot; It has to be in the public domain by this time :shk:

Not sure what this building is, but it is close to the Murrah Federal Building Memorial in Oklahoma City.

Downtown Oklahoma City:

Detail:

The Memorial itself is very well designed; I'll post a couple of shots when I can.

We started this trip, Philadelphia or Bust, just as the heat wave was settling down onto the West Coast.

I'm afraid to post here but I guess you'll let me know if I should if I tell you that this is quite likely the best picture I've got.

Full size

(Bonus points for anyone who guesses where this picture was taken

And a beautiful picture it is, too! Judging from your location, my guess would be somewhere in Finland...

Keep posting!

Very nice picture, Count. Btw, your full size link is wrong. It's supposed to be this link. Is it near Lahti in Finland?

Ah, true. Should've checked it one more time. I blame the lateness of the hour
Perhaps a moderator would care to correct it?

But no, that picture is not taken in Finland. It's not a lake...

Not a lake? Hmmm, a fjord? Is it Norway? It looks like it could be in Norway.

Bingo!

It's about at 69 30'19"N 20 48'16"E ... Kåfjord, I think

...Norway then....it's beautiful and the photography is most excellent

cierggis: those pictures are very nice. I especially like the snow scene; very delicate use of color! The plane shot made me think of Amelia Earhart for some reason...very emotive.

Say Count: Can you point me in the direction of how you provide an external link to a full-size image, while also being able to post a cut-down sized image? I use "imageshack" as a host... .

Hellmutt: my wife cracks-up every time she sees your avatar...I'm afraid to ask what "kujager" means...

apocalypticon,

This command posts a small picture which will act like a link to a bigger picture:

[ats]http://imageshackblahblah/small picture.jpg][/ats]

Kujager doesn't mean anything. It's an invented word (norwegian). "Ku" means "cow" and "jager" means "hunter", "chaser" or "to scare away". lol

Hellmutt,

Thanks for the link and the "translation"...lol.

I took a lot of shots at several Civil War battlefields on my journey. I'll post some when I can.

I'm trying to cut down on my habit of taking up too much board-space; however, sometimes there are shots I want to cluster into a single post, for theme or whatever.

I'm going to try setting up posts with the smaller formatted pictures with a link to the full size. And not post quite as often.

Apocalypticon.

This shot was taken at Shiloh Battlefield in southern Tennessee. This "12-pounder Napoleon" is facing the left flank of the Union line, which was anchored on the Tennessee River, just beyond the right-hand edge of the picture.

Confederate Gun at Shiloh:

Shiloh is one of the most beautiful of the National battlefields, IMHO. Not so beautiful in Spring of 1862, however; muddy from heavy rain combined with about 21,000 casualties from 2 days fighting...

Wow, wow, wow…..I love seeing new work on this thread

LC – Your macro shots and trip to the zoo are stunning…As always! The monkey/lemur shot is so captivating! I’m seeing a slight cyan colorcast on the image of the cheetah, but your use of sepia and selective color are exceptional…

apocalypticon – I can tell that although your trip wasn’t as long as expected, you had a great time (despite the heat!) – Your use of natural lighting in these images is excellent, and some of that summer heat even gets translated into the shots, like that gorgeous dessert sky…Looking forward to more!

Sorry I can’t comment on all – busy busy busy….But I just wanted to stop by and say keep it up! – I’ll try to comment on more and post some new ones of my own a little later this afternoon

Hey Enron,

It wasn't all heat and giant bugs
.

It was also this:

Soon to be followed by an ominous apparition on the horizon:

Which soon became this:

Which ultimately became this:

And it was still hot...remember...I be a California boy...but I did, indeed, have a great time.

And I also discovered that, with the possible exception of the northern Illinois area, California must have the worst maintained roads in the nation!

Some more HDR experiments....

On FSUs campus:

Combining multiple exposures with moving objects is difficult - Even the clouds shifting positions will screw up your results - So I decided I'd make my own clouds - I like mine better anyways

It's been rather hot here lately.....

Sometimes I get stuck in a rut....Do the same thing to all my images over an over again (Although, truth-be-told, I let CS2's automation do most of that for me)...Still - It's not a good habit to get into, so I figured I'd try something a little different...

A stink bug, I think?

And who doesn't like bubbles?!

Hey Enron,

Your work is great, as usual...the detail on the "bug" shot is real nice, and the "squirrel" pic is my new desktop background.

Now for the true rookie question: what is HDR ?
