There have been economic booms, scientific advancements, and cultural progress after every conflict America has fought, beginning with our War of Independence.

History also teaches us that the key elements to prosperity are freedom and peace. You do not go to war with people you like, or with people you know, or with people with whom you are trading and doing business. Even after our fledgling republic was nearly torn asunder by civil war which literally pitted brother against brother and nearly destroyed the South, our reunited nation and all of her people advanced and prospered after peace was restored.[
...
Instead of teaching our young people to kill, we should be teaching them about commerce and trade. In a word: business. But because war has become America’s business, some would even say its chief industry, all other business suffers. Now any good accountant will tell you, in order to have a successful business you must be able to show a profit, and the bottom line is — war doesn’t pay. That is what makes it such a lousy business for our nation to get into. With the one exception of defending the country from foreign attack, war only takes, giving nothing in return, save economic ruin and human heartaches. The natural resources and manpower eaten up by an imperialistic war machine are lost forever to starving job markets and industry at home.

War breeds war. Peace breeds prosperity.

In a time when "defending the empire" has become an American way of life, we need to remember it is not the military that ultimately drives us towards advancement. It is when people are free to trade good and ideas that prosperity truly comes to all.

Not so sure about that. Of course it depends if you are the winner or loser of a war. Wars open up new resources. They open up new trading partners and opportunities. Wars create demand for employment, manufacturing ect. One could contend that WWII brought the US out of the depression and catapulted it to be the Alpha economy and political force for quite a long period of time.

I'm not saying that War is a good thing, only that the OP assertion doesn't always prove out.

Conflict is as much part of the human state as peace. That's why we have a word for both.

Humans fight each other. Peace is an alien concept.

Sad but true.

We are the only species that destroys each other on such huge levels.

Also, remember, there are fortunes for armament dealers and uniform makers and many other immoral people in war.

But I don't think we are really to blame - because we were born with the fighting gene, and that is not our fault.

I don't think humanity as a whole is peaceful. Consider that mob mentalities exist even in small communities. This is only accentuated with numbers and that's how small battles become wars.
Humans are like most pack animals, including chimps, they have feuds between clans and kill each other for territory, resources and control.

That's true. In fact in times of major conflict the government consults psychologist to develope a propaganda approach in order to recruit. They use a tactic that appeals to the tribal mentality in as much as a person will identify with their town or state in sports and they use that mantality to make conflict against your country a tribal issue.

Yes it does. The military industrial complex is not turning a profit, like any pirate they are plundering people in order to finance their shenanigans.

There is a phenomenal difference between turning a profit and plunder.

Hmm,.
I guess I need to clarify,.
wars cost money, much of that money is often "lost" or "stolen" in sums of cash
or weaponry.
Peace, in the eyes of the war salesmen, generates nothing.
War also boosts the economy, in smaller sectors.

The money is stolen from us the moment the government takes it and uses it against our will.

In the world we live in ... the world OUR generations have been born into .... theres no peaceful option ... youve got America to thank for that .... Great Britain was in control of everything , and slowly gave up everything one step at a time, instead of crashing and burning like every other "super-power" ..... America is heading for a brick wall and is too stupid and trigger happy to brake... they`ll kill us all to gain ground and dominate the planet , its been coming for years, just look at the military bases around the globe ... who`s the only country wanting wars ? who recruits , funds, trains and arms "enemies" , just so they have an excuse to invade a country ? who makes up lies ... most of them disgusting ... to start wars for the sake of the big land grab .... you see , its not oil .... once theyve got the planet , theyve got ALL the resources they want .... but what will happen once theyve made the planet practically inhabitable and theres not many places left to occupy and re-build ? if nukes are used ALOT of the planet could be useless for centuries, and if they use all out grit in teeth, face to face, i`m gonna get you sucka, warfare, there`ll be nothing left of europe , russia, japan , china and so on... but then theres tech like this , en.wikipedia.org... , that they supposedly havnt got yet but it looked like one it fukushima
................ so who would "rebuild" ?

the bastards who killed the planet ? ... or the 500,000 99% that are left for labour and repopulation ?
When TSHTF theres honestly nothing we can do except pray that all of our armed forces remember where they grew up, who they grew up with, the people they endanger their lives for day in day out , the children , who have nothing to do with any sick man`s war games , but will be in the firing line when TSHTF .... theyve kept us safe from the enemies made over the years , lets hope they`ll dismiss that order , and keep us safe from the enemies we`ve known from birth.

I think MJ summed it up with ... "THIS IS IT"
