"The moment long feared by conspiracy theorists is nearly upon us: The "doomsday comet" Elenin will make its closest approach to Earth Sunday (Oct. 16). Or what's left of it will, anyway"

Debris of Doomsday

Perhaps Camping got the date wrong? Im happy to say that we will not be all dying, doomsday is not happening and Sunday is NOT the end of the world, despite rumors that the president will be hiding. Worth reading, so I figured to post.
Mother Nature is STILL pissed off tho

By that time, we'll all either be fertilizer in dirt or ash-either way we don't get the chance to be zombies

Good post, a nice change to hear a laughing at the "doom mongers" OP. All we've heard for the last god knows how many months is Elenin this, Elenin that....DOOOOOOOOOM.

I presume that this debris will create quite a spectacle in the night sky as we pass through its trail?
Here's hoping for clear skies!

Peace

Yeah nice to know, we spent a year being wrong and hundreds of threads on it. Finally Elenin is dead and after Sunday, officially gone...until next time, that is

Nope. No show. We will not be passing through any of the debris. It is presently severally million kilometers above the orbit of the Earth and even when its tail was at its longest it wasn't long enough to reach Earth. It has turned into a complete and utter non-event since the debris isn't even visible with telescopes.

All I can say is thank goodness. It will be the end of this insanity and Elenin will be a thing of the past. I can't but wonder what is next?

2005 YU55 or one of the many other inconsequential NEOs orbiting the Sun. It's seriously starting to feel like we're back in the Dark Ages with every new (or even old) celestial object being labeled as a harbinger of doom. This is the 21st century. We have the tools to observe these objects and the math to accurately predict their orbits.

Seconded. Just to clarify for anyone stuck in a reflex-action "Believe Nothing" thing with Elenin threads (perfectly understandable...) - this IS happening, as in, the REAL comet's remnants ARE making the approach past the Earth as outlined.

Thought someone should say that in case anyone embarrasses themselves without knowing what they even did

Does this mean that after Sunday there will be no more "Elenin is coming, run for the hills" Thread's?

Oh wait, it will be "(insert name here) is coming, run for the hills!!!"

Run for the hills, the coming election won't be rigged!!!!

Or maybe if we are lucky it will be so OBVIOUSLY rigged we'd actually get some change of the election laws.

Maybe I'll have a bottle of whiskey in hell before that happens too.

I'll have my umbrella ready for standby on Sunday.

You know, just in case the debris wants to give me a new unwelcomed hairdo or something.
